There was a strong smell of wood in the room. Upon closer inspection, Ye Chu discovered that most of the furniture in the room was made of wood, which explained it.
She approached the dusty table, no longer caring about the dirt, and pulled open the cabinet. Inside, lying quietly, were a few yellowed sheets of paper and several bottles of medicine whose expiration dates were unknown.
She carefully picked up the item. There was an unidentified stain on the paper, a large patch obscuring most of its contents; judging from the remaining portion, it was likely a diagnostic report or something similar. Looking at the names on the medicine bottle packaging, Ye Chu didn't recognize the names, but she could find them on Baidu—they were all medications for mental health issues.
It must belong to her mother. Ye Chu put the things back and carefully closed the cabinet. She then got up to look at the bookshelf, then the dressing table, and finally the wardrobe.
Part of the paint on the white wardrobe had peeled off, revealing a dark yellow interior. Opening the door, a pungent odor wafted out, causing Ye Chu to sneeze several times.
Looking back, she saw that the room was empty. She crouched down and reached out to touch the marks carved on the bottom of the cabinet. She could vaguely recall that she had carved them with the ruler she had brought in while hiding inside during a game of hide-and-seek.
She shrank into the wardrobe, bending her knees and burying them in the bottom, leaving her feet still on the floor outside. Trying to bend down, Ye Chu tried to see what she had carved, but the wardrobe, old and riddled with wormholes, caused her right knee to sink through the bottom and hit something hard, making her hiss in pain.
Ye Chu quickly pulled her feet back, enduring the pain in her knees, and saw a padlock through the broken opening.
She crouched down and, sure enough, saw a locked notebook in the space between the wardrobe and the floor. It lay there crookedly, probably accidentally kicked under the wardrobe by someone.
Ye Chu reached out and laboriously pulled it out. It was a small, locked notebook, most likely a diary. She tried to find the key, even though the rusty lock was unlikely to hold up, but she didn't want to damage the diary.
Fortunately, the owner of the diary didn't seem to intend to make things difficult for the person who found it. The key was sandwiched between the thick cover and the thin paper. With a slight pull, the key fell out.
Ye Chu easily unlocked the door and began to look through the contents. At first, the handwriting was very strong and vigorous, which Ye Chu guessed was written by her father. Some parts of the content were blurred, but she could tell from the remaining parts that it contained trivial daily details.
In the middle section, probably due to the father's health, the handwriting, though still firm, became somewhat weak, indicating that the writer no longer had the strength to write heavily. It roughly recorded the events of moving and illness.
The latter half contains only a few pages, written in a woman's handwriting, with delicate and small lines of writing repeatedly on each page, showing her husband's name.
The last page was still written in neat handwriting, with the words "Chuchu, Mom is sorry." The rest of the page was blank.
Upon seeing this, Ye Chu disregarded the diary's soiled state and hugged it tightly to her chest. Tears welled in her eyes, but she didn't let them fall... Perhaps, as Ye Jing said, her mother's mental state deteriorated later on, but she never forgot Ye Chu.
Perhaps she really couldn't take it anymore, Ye Chu thought, staying in this house, in this room, constantly thinking about how her lover was gone forever...
Stepping out of the room, Ye Chu wandered around the house and found a bottle filled with paper stars in her old room.
She walked out of the house carrying her diary and bottle, her clothes covered in dust, making her look a little disheveled.
"You're out?" Ye Jing and Jiang Yun were at the door, and they waved to her when she came out.
After having lunch at Jiang Yun's house, the two said goodbye to Jiang Yun and got into a taxi. Ye Chu's high-speed train back home was scheduled for the afternoon.
When she stepped into her home again and saw the tangerines running towards her and Changji working in the living room, she couldn't help but smile.
"You're back?" Hearing the noise, Changji stopped what she was doing. "What would you like for dinner?"
Ye Chu changed into a pair of slippers and sat down on the sofa: "I just need to cook some porridge, I'll help."
"Can you do it?"
"I can still handle washing rice!" Ye Chu said with a straight face, pretending to be serious. The orange cat nestled in her arms and, not understanding what was going on, let out a short, deep hum.
"Fine, you two kidnapped me, I can't win the vote, so you wash the rice." Chang Ji closed her laptop and got up, laughing and crying at the same time. Ye Chu and Gan Ju followed her into the kitchen.
Perhaps because she had experienced so much in the two days she was back, she finally slept peacefully that night.
When she opened her eyes again, all her complicated feelings vanished, leaving only one thing on her mind: what was Gu Yu thinking?
Recalling many of the things the other person had said before, I didn't realize anything at the time, and even thought that the other person had someone else they liked, which made me feel very sad.
Now it's all good; that imaginary enemy didn't exist at all—it was just myself. But now that I know, what's the next step? Should I go to Gu Yu and say, "I remember now, the person you like is me?" That would be so awkward.
Moreover...
"She needs to remember quickly, I don't have much time left for her. If she still can't remember, I'll have to change my tactics." Gu Yu's words were still ringing clearly in Ye Chu's mind. It might be a little embarrassing to say this, but she suddenly became interested in how Gu Yu would change his tactics.
Ye Chu's eyes darted around, and a little idea popped into her head. Although forgetting was her fault, Gu Yu had made her think her first love had died instantly, so she decided to pretend she didn't know!
So Gu Yu was absolutely right when he said Ye Chu was a little fox; just look at how she's got all sorts of wicked ideas in her head right now.
After a moment's thought, Ye Chu smiled and cheered herself up. Now it was time to put her true acting skills to the test.
Fortunately, she still had work to do, so Gu Yu could hide away for a while longer.
Ye Chu's magazine photoshoot has come to an end, and she is about to set off to participate in a travel reality show called "Our Travel Diary".
The variety show content is exactly what the show's name suggests; it's a very simple travel program. The reason it's associated with variety shows is because the production team provides a limited budget for each trip. In addition to traveling, the members of the travel group also need to complete various check-in tasks: the production team provides location hints, and the members of the travel group find their destinations and complete the photo check-in activities by their own means without the production team providing route hints or language translation.
For each location successfully visited, the participants receive a certain amount of travel funds. If a visit is unsuccessful and the tour group runs out of money, the members can choose to borrow money from the production team to tide them over. Of course, this borrowed money must be repaid at a cost.
The loan amount will be recorded. Tour members can earn money during the trip through other means such as street performances or working as waiters in restaurants. They must repay the loan before the end of the trip; otherwise, everyone must stay until the loan is paid off before they can move on to the next destination.
