Chapter Thirty

But everyone knows that He Qing would never choose an actor who doesn't suit his taste.

After He Qing left, Old Li, who was in charge of arranging the auditions, sighed softly: "Sigh, it's been seven days already, how come we still can't find a suitable one?"

The assistant director sitting next to him patted him on the shoulder: "This role is the culmination of six years of hard work by He Qing. I heard that the original name of 'Daylight' was 'Eternal Night,' but later, for some reason, that kid changed the name to 'Daylight.'"

As the assistant director said, "Daylight" is He Qing's life's work, and screenwriter Chen Wen knows this better than anyone.

Over the past six years, He Qing has polished the script time and time again, even humbly asking him for help in refining it...

"What? You still haven't found a suitable actress?" Xie Wanyao exclaimed in disbelief. After seven whole days of auditions, the role still hadn't been cast. "I mean, just how picky are you!"

“None of them can become…” He Qing lay back on the large bed, clutching the script in his hand: “Why don’t you give it a try?”

"I can't help you, I don't have any free time later on. Besides, I'm not suitable for this role." Xie Wanyao had the opportunity to see "Daylight" once and was quite impressed by the character.

She thought for a moment, then suddenly asked, "Hey, how about we ask Gu Yu to help you find one?"

"Will it work?"

"Hey, just tell him to let his future wife go too, you won't lose out anyway."

“That’s true.” After hanging up the phone, He Qing dialed Gu Yu’s number again. Just as he and Xie Wanyao had thought, as soon as He Qing said, “Let your little wife give it a try too,” Gu Yu agreed.

Ye Chu felt that she might have reached the peak of her luck, because she actually received new scripts and audition invitations.

The new drama has a very novel setting, revolving around a large castle and its mistress.

The entire narrative is told from the perspective of the castle's mistress, but the protagonist's perspective is that of a young adventurer named He Jiu.

The story begins on a rainy night.

The young adventurer He Jiu arrives at this legendary black castle, filled with treasures, through a mysterious letter.

The young adventurer was unaware that the moment he stepped through the castle gates, he might be left there forever... for both his body and his soul.

The magnificent scenery inside the castle captivated the adventurer: the dazzling and exquisite chandeliers, the silver-white carved tableware, and even the two rows of handrails on the stairs were carved with gorgeous patterns that he could not understand.

The castle was spotless, seemingly cleaned and polished daily. The young adventurer felt he should explore further, but he had expended considerable energy on the journey here…

Resting in an unknown place is a very unwise thing to do, the adventurer thought, but he couldn't resist the strong drowsiness.

"Ring...ring...ring..." The clear sound of bells echoed in the castle. A woman wearing a long white nightgown had milky white skin. Her black hair was loose, and her red lips were as bright as blood.

"Ring..." The bell tied to her ankle jingled with her steps. She crouched down, her pale pink fingertips attempting to touch the adventurer's cheek.

Just a hair's breadth away, a childish voice called out to her: "Mother."

The woman withdrew her hand, got up, and left.

She and the child disappeared into the castle, and the space became silent again.

The castle windows were all tightly shut, heavy curtains stubbornly blocking out the sunlight. But today was different. This young adventurer named He Jiu opened the first window, then the second, the third…

The castle brightened up, the sunlight seemingly possessing the power to breathe life into everything. At least, that's what He Jiu felt as she looked at everything in the castle shimmering in the sunlight.

He walked up the long staircase to the second floor of the castle, where a huge master bedroom was located. As usual, He Jiu opened the window of the master bedroom and sniffed the air, noticing a faint fragrance.

He Jiu was certain that there were other people inside the castle, and it was a woman. He wondered if she was an adventurer like him searching for treasure, or someone who originally lived in the castle.

The items in the room didn't offer him many clues; the only useful one was probably the magnificent long dress in the wardrobe. It seemed that the other person inside the castle was the castle's mistress.

Like an eager drunkard, He Jiu took a white nightgown from the wardrobe and sniffed it. The adventurer's excellent sense of smell told him that the nightgown must have been worn by the other person not long ago.

He Jiu left the master bedroom and searched from one tower to another, an unprecedented fervor urging him to find the mysterious mistress as soon as possible. Little did he know, everything in the castle was watching his every move.

Xu Yan died on an extremely romantic summer day. She always remembered that the flowers around the castle were in full bloom that day, and she collapsed amidst the blossoms.

Her husband is a businessman.

Caravans transported silk and porcelain from far away, passing through the seemingly endless forest outside the castle, to sell them in towns on the other side.

The root of their malice lies in their lack of recognition as people of this land. The husband and she came from the other side of the ocean with the husband's grandfather, but they heard that in a much longer past, they had traveled from this side to the other side of the ocean.

Unrecognized "outsiders" possessed immense wealth that they could never spend in a lifetime, and their malice eventually erupted.

The arrow pierced her heart; her body remained amidst the blooming flowers, while her soul drifted away with their fragrance.

The real "outsiders" looted the wealth in sight, and the poor child was taken down from the ceiling by the returning merchants and laid to rest underground with her mother.

In the midst of bloody chaos, the merchant was arrested, convicted, and beheaded. He thought he might meet his loved ones in heaven, but instead, the souls of those who died unnatural deaths were trapped in a dark, ancient castle.

“Jiu…” In the shadows where the sunlight couldn’t reach, someone murmured the name, gazing at the person in another tower from afar.

Her other small hand gripped the hem of her skirt, her gaze following the figure opposite her.

"Mother, has Father returned?"

"No."

"When will he be back?"

"He may never come back."

The adventurer finally left the tower, now holding a longsword with an exquisite scabbard.

"She should never have come back." Xu Yan murmured again.

The ancient castle, which had never seen the sun all year round, was finally bathed in light, but night would eventually replace day, and the castle would once again be plunged into darkness.

This is the general plot of the first half of the script that Ye Chu has received so far. The person who invited her to the interview noted the interview location, interview time and her interview number in detail in the email.
