Chapter 151 I must find a way to get a taste!
He didn't ask any more questions, but simply nodded slightly to Su Xiaonuan to indicate that he understood.
Then, he strode to the table, first routinely checking on the man's condition to confirm that he was just unconscious, and then his attention was completely drawn to the cell phone.
He put on the white gloves he always carried, carefully picked up the phone, and swiped his fingers across the screen a few times, quickly browsing the chat history and any existing photo albums and files.
The more he examined it, the colder his expression became, and the sharper his eyes grew.
Su Xiaoan stood quietly to the side, watching Lu Zheng's profile as he focused on his investigation. She knew in her heart that the good days of this venomous snake hiding behind the internet were over.
Lu Zheng's cold gaze swept over the suspect, who was slumped over like mud and snoring loudly, and then he made a crisp hand gesture to the two police officers who had followed him.
The two men understood each other and immediately stepped forward, one on each side, skillfully lifting the unconscious man off the table.
The man's head slumped limply as he was dragged along, seemingly out of place in the vibrant, everyday environment around him.
The crowd that had not yet dispersed around them had curiosity in their eyes that was almost tangible.
They whispered amongst themselves, their eyes darting back and forth between the police, the suspect, and the pretty stall owner.
Some speculated it was food poisoning, others suspected a sudden illness, and still others, with wildly imaginative ideas, started conjuring up a melodramatic story of love turning into hate.
Lu Zheng took in everyone's reactions and let out a barely perceptible sigh.
He turned to Su Xiaonuan, his tone businesslike but slightly gentler than usual: "Ms. Su, thank you for your timely reporting and... keen observation. However, we'll need you to come back to the station with us to make a detailed statement."
Su Xiaonuan had just sold out the quota required by the system for today, and felt relieved. She nodded readily and said, "Okay, Officer Lu, it's my duty."
Her face appropriately revealed a hint of lingering fear from being "startled" and a sincere willingness to cooperate.
She deftly began packing up her stall.
An Ran and Qin Hao stepped forward to help. An Ran's face still showed lingering worry and doubt. She lowered her voice and asked, "Nuan Nuan, are you really alright? Do you want us to go with you?"
Su Xiaonuan smiled reassuringly at her and blinked, "It's nothing, just routine. You guys go home and rest first, you must be tired after working all afternoon. I'll go back after I finish taking the statement."
Her tone was relaxed and suggestive.
Qin Haochu stood behind An Ran, glanced at Su Xiaonuan with a deep look, then glanced at the suspect being stuffed into the police car. In the end, he just nodded silently and tugged at An Ran's arm: "Let her go, let's not make things worse."
An Ran then barely managed to suppress her many questions and helped Su Xiaonuan put the last of the tools back in their place.
Su Xiaonuan locked up her stall, dusted off her hands, turned and walked towards Lu Zheng's rugged black SUV. She then drove her own light wood-colored RV and followed the police car at a leisurely pace.
As the car entered the city's public security bureau compound, Su Xiaonuan parked the car with practiced ease and followed Lu Zheng into the criminal investigation branch office.
The people at the police station seemed to have gotten used to her repeated "visits".
One young police officer, who had just come out of the break room, saw her and his eyes lit up. He came over with a grin and said, "Hey, Boss Su, you're here again? What delicious food are you selling today? The fried skewers last time were so unsatisfying, they were gone before I could even taste them!"
This is clearly a lucky person who had successfully "stakeout" at Su Xiaonuan's stall before.
Su Xiaonuan was a little embarrassed by the familiar tone. She raised her hand to scratch the back of her head and smiled innocently, like a little rabbit who had wandered into a wolf's den: "Today we're selling spicy squid."
"Spicy squid?!" These words seemed to possess a magical power, instantly attracting the attention of most people in the office.
The police officers, who were engrossed in writing reports and reviewing files, all looked up at once, their eyes instantly focusing on Su Xiaonuan, their gazes brighter than the flashlights used for crime scene investigations.
You could almost hear the sound of someone swallowing hard in the air.
"That sounds so exciting!"
"Mr. Su, do you still have any stock?"
"Could you..."
Just as the lively atmosphere was about to ignite the office, Lu Zheng's icy voice poured down like a bucket of cold water: "Nothing to do? Have you closed all your cases? Finished writing all your reports?"
His voice wasn't loud, but it carried an undeniable authority.
Instantly, all the restless figures froze, the rising enthusiasm was forcibly suppressed, and the office regained its apparent silence.
But that tacit, unspoken expectation did not disappear; it simply transformed into a more subtle form—eye contact, slight twitching of the lips, and silent tapping of fingers under the table.
Everyone's eyes were filled with eager anticipation, and their minds were racing with their own calculations: once Captain Lu leaves with Su Xiaonuan, they must find a way to get a bite!
Lu Zheng glanced around expressionlessly, taking in everyone's reactions, and his brows furrowed almost imperceptibly.
He didn't say anything more and led Su Xiaonuan straight to the interrogation room.
The oppressive atmosphere behind me dissipated, and as soon as the office door closed, whispers rose like a tide.
"Did you hear that? Spicy squid!"
"Just hearing the name makes my mouth water!"
"Boss Su's cooking skills are absolutely amazing! Last time, even my picky kid was fighting over those jianbing guozi!"
"You mean Captain Lu and Boss Su... is there something going on between them?" Finally, someone raised this question.
"No way? Captain Lu is so cold and aloof, while Boss Su is so sweet and adorable..."
"It's hard to say. Look at who Captain Lu has ever 'taken good care of'? Every time, he personally handles Boss Su's 'matters'."
"That's true... but the important thing is the squid! Squid! Let's find a way to get Boss Su to make some more!"
However, the two people being discussed were completely oblivious to the fact that one was single-minded and the other was deep in thought, and had no idea that the outside world had already launched several rounds of "case analysis" about their relationship.
The statement taking process went smoothly. This was not Su Xiaonuan's first time experiencing this, and she was very familiar with the process. She clearly recounted how she discovered the suspect had fainted and how she "accidentally" glimpsed the indecent content on the other party's phone screen, but omitted the system, the drug, and her deliberate seduction.
Lu Zheng was responsible for taking notes, occasionally asking a question or two about a detail.
He kept his head down, the pen scratching on the paper. Occasionally, when he looked up at Su Xiaonuan, his gaze was deep, scrutinizing, and also contained a subtle, complex emotion.
After taking his statement, he closed the notebook, stood up, and said, "That's all, thank you for your cooperation."
