Chapter 189 The Prison Beneath the Deep Sea
The car finally came to a stop.
The two were taken off the vehicle, and their hoods were roughly ripped off.
The glaring lights made the two of them involuntarily squint.
After their eyes adjusted to the light, they could see their surroundings clearly, and a chill ran down their spines at the same time!
This place... isn't land at all!
They stood in a transparent, curved tunnel. Beyond the tunnel was the deep, blue-glowing seawater, where all sorts of strangely shaped deep-sea fish swam slowly by.
The immense water pressure caused the passage to creak slightly.
This is a prison built deep underwater!
Cold, damp, and deathly still.
This was Su Xiaonuan and Lu Zheng's first impression after being locked in this deep-sea prison cell.
The cell was small, with walls and ceiling made of some kind of cold alloy material that gleamed with a dark metallic luster.
The only light source came from the corridor, a pale blue light that seemed to come from another world, an effect simulated by special lighting to represent the deep-sea environment outside.
A heavy metal door, with no visible lock, separated the inside from the outside.
When they were thrown in, they had nothing but the half-dry, mud-stained clothes they were wearing.
The cell contained only two hard wooden beds fixed to the wall, without even a blanket.
Su Xiaonuan helped Lu Zheng, who was still weak and slightly numb, to sit on a bed.
Her own heart felt as heavy as if it were filled with lead.
The scene of Bai Xiaoxiao's death, the thrill of jumping over the wall to escape, the awkwardness and determination of underwater breathing, and Han Ming's cold face... all these scenes churned in my mind.
What weighed heavily on her heart was Han Ming's stance.
Undeterred, she walked to the cell door and, through the small observation window that only allowed her to look out, shouted loudly into the empty corridor, "Han Ming! Han Ming, come out! I know you can hear me! Let's talk!"
The sound echoed in the small, cold space, but it was like a stone sinking into the sea, without any response.
Only the faint hum of water or machinery could be heard in the distance.
“Stop shouting…” Lu Zheng leaned against the wall, his face still pale. He coughed weakly, his voice hoarse, “Cough… It’s no use. This was his own choice.”
Su Xiaonuan turned around abruptly, her baby face filled with resentment and incomprehension: "Why? He clearly... his adoptive father saved him three times! Even the third time... even if his sister didn't survive, can that kindness be erased? I thought... I thought that although he wasn't on the right path, at least his goal was the same as ours, to eradicate evil..."
Her voice grew softer and softer, carrying a stinging pain of being betrayed by someone she trusted.
This realization was more painful for her than being in this deep-sea prison.
Lu Zheng looked at her, his eyes filled with complex emotions.
He wanted to say something, but a surge of blood rushed through his chest, and he coughed violently, his forehead beaded with cold sweat.
The toxicity of the anesthetic seemed to linger, leaving him with a feeling of powerless numbness throughout his body.
Seeing this, Su Xiaonuan immediately suppressed her chaotic emotions and quickly walked to his side.
She crouched down and, using the faint blue light filtering in from the corridor, carefully examined his complexion.
Then, as if she had made up her mind, she used her remaining merit points from the system shop to exchange for a "panacea" that was said to be able to cure all poisons.
She held the milky-white pill, which emitted a faint fragrance, to Lu Zheng's lips, her voice extremely low, almost a whisper: "Eat this, it will detoxify you."
Lu Zheng looked at her, and without any hesitation, opened his mouth and swallowed the pill.
The pill melted instantly in the mouth, and a gentle warmth quickly slid from the throat into the stomach, then spread throughout the body.
Soon, the abnormal bluish-gray color on his face faded at a visible speed, and his breathing became much more steady and powerful.
Although my body is still somewhat numb and weak, at least the deadly toxin has been completely eliminated.
"How are you feeling?" Su Xiaonuan asked nervously.
"Much better." Lu Zheng nodded, trying to move his fingers. Although they were still a little stiff, he had regained some sensation. "Thank you."
Su Xiaonuan breathed a sigh of relief, then felt completely exhausted and slumped onto another hard bed.
The two fell silent for a moment, their heavy breathing echoing in the isolated prison cell.
In the following days, Su Xiaonuan and Lu Zheng seemed to have been truly forgotten by the whole world.
Every day, at a fixed time, a small opening will appear at the bottom of the cell door, and a cold mechanical arm will push in two bottles of water and two servings of bland, tasteless nutritional paste that can only sustain vital signs.
Apart from that, no one else has ever come here, and even the sound of footsteps is rarely heard.
They tried to communicate with the people in the next cell, but their knocking on the wall only elicited silence or a few impatient, desperate shouts.
The people imprisoned here seem to have long lost all hope and the desire to communicate with others.
Time loses its meaning in this eternal blue and silence.
Su Xiaonuan could only rely on the time displayed on the system interface to judge how much time had passed.
Every day felt like sinking an inch into the cold, deep sea, with despair building up layer by layer like water pressure.
Lu Zheng's body gradually improved under the influence of the antidote pills and his own tenacious recovery power. The numbness had basically disappeared, but he was still weak due to the recent recovery from serious injuries and the previous exhaustion.
He mostly leaned against the wall in silence, closing his eyes to rest and conserve his energy, but when he opened his sharp eyes, he would still vigilantly scan his surroundings, looking for any possible opportunity.
Su Xiaonuan, on the other hand, was much more anxious.
She couldn't calm down completely like Lu Zheng.
Han Ming's betrayal, Bai Xiaoxiao's death, the failure of the mission, and the unknown situation outside all gnawed at her heart like venomous snakes.
Just when she was almost driven mad by this hopeless wait, different footsteps finally came from outside the cell.
It wasn't mechanical, but the sound of human footsteps, the crisp sound of high heels clicking on the alloy floor, coming from afar.
Su Xiaonuan and Lu Zheng simultaneously raised their heads warily and looked towards the cell door.
The electronic lock on the door emitted a soft "beep" sound, and the heavy metal door slowly slid open to one side.
The person standing outside the door made Su Xiaonuan's eyes widen in astonishment!
It's Fu Lilian!
She was no longer the haggard, down-and-out fugitive she had been before. Instead, she was dressed in a well-tailored black suit, with exquisite makeup and her hair neatly pulled back.
She stood there quietly, a smile on her face that Su Xiaonuan had never seen before, a smile that mixed indifference with a hint of mockery, as if she were enjoying the shock on their faces.
