Chapter 114 Seeing Through But Not Saying It

As soon as the projections of the dean and Professor Che appeared in front of them, the director angrily said, "What are you doing? How many times have I told you? I won't tell you the coordinates. We'll talk about it after we finish the survival challenge on the wasteland."

"But fog..."

"What a load of crap, what a load of crap."

The director kept talking like a fire-breathing dragon, “Don’t tell me that the Mist Fragrance Beast is important. I know it’s important, but you need to understand one thing: before the Mist Fragrance Beast appeared this time, it had been on the extinction list for thousands of years.”

"When intelligent life was unaware, the Mist Fragrance Beast was living a good life on the desolate planet. If it weren't for that metal arm, the Mist Fragrance Beast wouldn't have died."

"This shows that the extinction of the Mist Fragrance Beast was a result of the actions of intelligent life."

"Without intelligent life aware of the days when they are hunted, the Mist Fragrance Beasts are thriving on the desolate planet. Once intelligent life discovers them, it's only a matter of time before they face extinction again."

"I know you love animals and want to go to the scene as soon as possible to study and investigate, but don't forget that the survival show on the wasteland has another purpose."

“In terms of importance, even your biological research center has to take a backseat.”

After glancing at the two speechless individuals, the director made the final statement, "Isn't it just about finding out the detailed coordinates of the desolate planet?"

"Don't rush, stay calm. When the time is right, I will tell you. Don't even think about it now. It's impossible for me to tell you. Even if you make a scene at the center of the authoritarian regime, it won't do you any good."

"You should know that I am a very principled person."

Do you understand what I mean?

I understand, that's all—

"Can't you really tell us now?"

The dean stared at him expectantly, and Professor Che's expression made the director feel utterly disgusted. He scoffed and said coldly, "I said no, and that means no."

"Anything else? No, okay, I'll hang up now, I'm busy!"

Without giving them a chance to reply, he decisively cut off the communication and then quickly added their contact information to his blacklist.

The entire set of movements was fluid and skillful, clearly demonstrating that they had been practiced many times.

"Done."

The director, now that the world was quiet, left humming a satisfied tune.

Meanwhile, in the director's office of the biological research center, the director and Professor Che looked at each other and began to sigh one after another.

After a long pause, Professor Che scratched his head and said somewhat speechlessly, "I never expected that Owen would become the biggest stumbling block on my path of researching the Mist Beast."

At first, he thought it was the dean, but the harsh reality told him that compared to Owen, who was a difficult guy, the dean was nothing.

The dean, who was not much of a figure, was also quite helpless. In terms of position, he was not low, but Owen was not low either. Although they belonged to different circles, their status in the center of authoritarianism was equal.

Therefore, he couldn't get his superiors to intervene, and because of the different fields, he couldn't issue a mandatory enforcement order in the name of his superiors.

Are you still going?

Seeing Professor Che looking dejected, the dean felt much better. After all, he was the dean, not a professor who was independently conducting projects, so whether or not he could go to the desolate planet to study the Mist Beast was not important.

Professor Che is different; this project is his lifeline.

Now that his manhood has appeared, but he can't go to it and can only think about it, he knows how painful that must be.

Indeed, a bleak life can only be happy when compared to something else.

"Why don't you switch to another project? You definitely can't handle the Mist Beast project."

His tone was very serious and solemn, but Professor Che could still detect a very obvious sense of schadenfreude in his words.

He glanced at the dean, grinned, and said, "I need to take a vacation."

"What?"

The dean stood up in surprise. "I think I'm hallucinating. Say it again."

"You're not hallucinating. I made myself very clear. I need to take a leave of absence. Here, grant me leave."

"Not approved."

The dean resolutely refused, and seeing that he was about to speak, he immediately said, "I have a new project here, see if you want to take it and do it."

As he spoke, he opened the drawer and took out a file folder.

Upon seeing the bag, Professor Che's expression suddenly turned serious.

In a technologically advanced society, everything in life can be digitized.

The advent of digitization has replaced paper-based methods, but not all of them. Some classified projects at the A-level will still be documented in paper form.

They say it's about a sense of ritual.

As someone who focuses solely on scientific research, Professor Che may not understand the importance of rituals, but that doesn't diminish his appreciation for this file folder.

"A-level project?"

He asked, his eyes sparkling.

The dean nodded and, holding the file bag, said, "Think carefully about whether you want to accept it. If you do, follow the procedures. You'll need to sign a confidentiality agreement, and you should know the confidentiality clauses."

"No need to think about it, I'll take it!"

Professor Che held out his hand, his eyes fixed intently, and said, "Give it to me."

"Let the procedure run first."

The dean didn't give it to him; instead, he called out the head of the biological research center to complete the procedure before handing the bag to him.

Professor Che eagerly opened the file folder, skimming through it. But his excited expression froze as he read on. After finishing, he looked at the dean in disbelief, "This...this project..."

"Shhh."

The dean gestured for silence, then solemnly instructed, "See through it but don't say it out loud. Just keep it to yourself."

It's achievable, but it's just too difficult to handle.

After frowning and pondering for a moment, Professor Che sighed, "I understand. Keep a close eye on Sang Ning's live stream. I have a feeling that the appearance of the Mist Beast is not an isolated case. Keep an eye on her and there will be more surprises waiting for us."

"I know, I'll have someone keeping an eye on things even if you don't tell me."

Professor Che hummed in agreement, then waved the file folder in his hand and said, "Then I'll be going now."

"Let's go, let's go!"

With a wave of his hand, the dean gestured as if to see Professor Che off, and he left decisively without the slightest regret.

"Bang--"

The door closed automatically, and the dean breathed a sigh of relief. He opened his personal terminal and entered Sang Ning's live stream, just in time to see Sang Ning scoop up a creature that looked like a sea snake.

Alive.

The moment she grabbed it, the creature's slippery body wrapped around her arm.

Everyone saw that Sang Ning's biceps bulged, and the veins on the back of his hands were bulging.

The dean was frantic, spamming the chat with messages telling her to let go and drop it immediately, because getting bitten was no joke.

The viewers in the live stream were going crazy, unable to understand why anyone would actually confront a sea snake head-on, given its potent venom.

Elite humans are immune to sea snake venom due to their antibodies, but Sang Ning is a primitive human who has never been injected with an antidote vaccine and has not developed a complete anti-venom immune system.

Even medical robots may not be able to provide timely treatment if someone is bitten.

Sang Ning was then surrounded by a barrage of special effects messages urging her to let go.
