Chapter 19

Chapter 19

As soon as the starting gun fired, the athletes started slowly and cautiously, but Ji Zhixing, who knew his own physical condition well, was not so cautious and took the lead.

Qi Yao chuckled inwardly. As expected, he was an inexperienced greenhorn who thought leading the race was glamorous. In fact, running behind the top three was the most energy-efficient thing to do.

But his smile quickly faded. After running two laps, he was already struggling to move and utterly exhausted. He kept looking ahead, wondering where that hot-headed young man had gone. Had he already given up on the race?

Just then, Ji Zhixing ran past him.

Qi Yi stared at Ji Zhixing's relaxed back. Had he been tricked?

Could he have secretly crossed the playground?

Qi Yi stared at Ji Zhixing, her head shifting from looking straight ahead to turning 90 degrees to the side, then 180 degrees to the opposite side, and then being circled by Ji Zhixing again... and then a third time...

When Qi Yi was running the fourth lap, Ji Zhixing had already reached the finish line.

Damn! When the sports committee coaxed him to participate, didn't they say it was just a bunch of weaklings fighting each other? Why is there a wolf among them?!

In reality, Ji Zhixing wasn't exceptionally skilled, but physical education students typically avoid these kinds of matches where they're easy prey, as it's considered unsportsmanlike. Among a group of typical modern college students who are "lazy and inactive," Ji Zhixing, who exercises almost every day, stands out as exceptional.

Because he was so calm and collected when he reached the finish line, Ji Zhixing was kept there by the referee. He looked at the recorder and counted again. Seven and a half laps was right. He had only taken ten minutes!

"Which college are you from? Could you be a sports student here to run for someone else?"

"Physics Department." Ji Zhixing took the towel Zhang Biao handed him and wiped away the thin layer of sweat.

The referee looked him up and down with some hesitation, but still believed him. It was mainly because Ji Zhixing looked scholarly and was too fair-skinned; what physical education student is that fair-skinned?

"Great, great!" The referee teacher pulled Ji Zhixing aside, expressing his utmost appreciation. He then launched into a long speech about his concerns regarding the physical fitness and physique of contemporary college students, and stated that he would propose to the school that Ji Zhixing be used as an example to encourage everyone to get moving, perhaps by arranging a morning running exercise routine...

Ji Zhixing's hair stood on end; he was going to be hated to death! He firmly stated that he did not want to show off, and then fled in panic.

Looking at the time, Ji Zhixing figured Lin Lang should still be playing, so he decided to go to the stadium to check on him.

When Ji Zhixing arrived at the basketball court, the game was already nearing its end. He looked up at the scoreboard: Physics Department 41:42 Chemistry Department, the score was very close.

He had just found a place to sit down on the sidelines when a physics student fell heavily in front of him, clutching his leg and curling up in pain.

"Qiu Lan!" Lin Lang rushed over immediately.

The referee blew the whistle to stop the game, and everyone gathered around Qiu Lan. The school doctor who was waiting on the sidelines also quickly ran over with his medical kit.

The school doctor examined him and said, "He has a sprained ankle and must leave the field immediately."

"Could we try traction to reposition it now?" Qiu Lan asked, enduring the pain.

The school doctor looked at his head covered in cold sweat and advised, "Look at yourself, there are only 30 seconds left. Even if you could barely get on the field now, could you run? Could you jump?"

Lin Lang held down Qiu Lan, who was still struggling: "Are you not going to keep this foot? There's a school league match in two months!"

He and Qiu Lan are both on the school basketball team, and it's a real pity that Qiu Lan was injured and had to leave the game today. But if he forces himself to play again, his injury will definitely worsen. What would have taken a week or two to heal might now take a month or two, and even the school league two months later will be greatly affected. It's truly a case of losing both the little thing and the big thing.

Other teammates also tried to persuade her, but Qiu Lan angrily pounded the ground and was eventually carried to the infirmary by the logistics team.

Lin Lang breathed a sigh of relief, but immediately faced another thorny problem—their team only had four people left.

The Physics Department's basketball team already had few members, and then two of them were injured during the sports meet a few days ago and couldn't play, one had to take leave to go home because of a family matter, and the other was ejected from the game for a foul. Their team now has an empty bench and no substitutes at all!

What to do?! Lin Lang was furious when he suddenly saw Ji Zhixing in front of him.

"Zhixing! You go!"

"Huh?" Ji Zhixing was also worried about Lin Lang, but he was suddenly called out. "I've never played ball before!"

During his middle school years, he was busy taking care of his grandfather. In his freshman year of college, he was busy working to support himself while also balancing his studies. Playing basketball was a luxury for him before; he didn't even have time to watch the NBA.

"It's okay, we're just making up the numbers, you can just stand there!" Lin Lang pulled Ji Zhixing up without saying a word and put the Physics team's number 66 vest on him.

With five people gathered, the competition could finally continue.

Lin Lang pointed out a spot near the sidelines where it wouldn't get in the way, and Ji Zhixing stood there like a mascot.

There were only 30 seconds left. For someone like Ji Zhixing who had never played basketball, 30 seconds seemed like an impossible amount of time to organize an effective attack, but this idea was clearly quite amateurish.

While dribbling, Lin Lang assessed the situation, made a fake move, turned around and bypassed the defender, quickly broke through and made a layup, scoring two crucial points!

Physics Department 43:42 Chemistry Department!

A deafening cheer erupted from the sidelines, and Ji Zhixing raised his hands and cheered loudly like the audience!

However, the game was not over yet. With 12 seconds left, the School of Chemistry was still unwilling to give in and quickly organized an attack, while the School of Physics played an active defense.

"Beep—" The referee blew the whistle, the Physics Department committed a foul!

Damn it, Lin Lang angrily smacked himself; he had been too hasty.

Chemistry Department takes a penalty kick.

First goal! Goal! Tie the score!

Physics Department 43: Chemistry Department 43!

The chemistry students on the sidelines jumped up and applauded enthusiastically.

For the second free throw, the chemistry student took a breath, dribbled, and jumped to shoot. The ball bounced a few times on the rim before falling into the basket.

Physics Department 43:44 Chemistry Department!

The cheers from the Chemistry Department were so loud they nearly lifted the roof off the gymnasium.

With only 3 seconds left, the situation was almost irreversible.

Some of the chemistry students relaxed their bodies, while others simply hugged each other in celebration, and the spectators on the sidelines also got up to leave.

But Lin Lang didn't give up; he wanted to win!

After receiving the ball under the basket, he immediately passed it to Ji Zhixing, who was closest to him, and then quickly sprinted towards the opponent's basket.

Ji Zhixing understood Lin Lang's meaning; he wanted him to throw the ball to him, which would be faster than him dribbling and running. However, there were only 3 seconds left, and even if Lin Lang ran to the basket, successfully caught the ball, and immediately jumped to shoot, he would definitely be past the time limit.

As Ji Zhixing watched Lin Lang's sprinting figure and his anxious yet unyielding expression as he turned around under the basket, an idea suddenly popped into his head—what if he could just throw the ball directly into the basket?

As soon as the idea popped into his head, he suddenly and habitually entered a state of focused thinking.

This is so much like a math physics problem.
