Chapter 11: Evil Child

Chapter 11: Evil Child

After this experience, Ye Rou felt that she would not be afraid no matter what happened.

She returned to the Ye family carrying firewood.

Seeing Ye Rou, Ye Wen kicked the dirty clothes at his feet and said, "Wash these."

Ye Rou looked at Ye Wen.

She looked back and forth in the small mirror in her hand.

Ye Rou bent over and rummaged through the dirty clothes. She threw a few blood-stained Ye Wen pants back at her feet, then picked up the dirty clothes on the ground and walked out.

Ye Wen behind her called her angrily.

Ye Rou stopped and said, "If you let me wash you, everyone in the village will know about it tomorrow."

Ye Wen choked on the words that were about to come out of his mouth.

She snorted coldly, stuffed the dirty clothes into the wooden barrel, picked up the barrel, and took a few quick steps to catch up with Ye Rou.

The moment she passed Ye Rou, she suddenly stopped, leaned her head towards Ye Rou, and her nose kept twitching.

The distance was too close, Ye Rou felt uncomfortable and took a step back.

Ye Wen said firmly: "You ate meat!"

Ye Rou's heart was beating fast, but she remained calm on the surface. "You smelled it wrong."

"Impossible, I didn't smell it wrong, you stole some meat!" Ye Wen looked towards the kitchen, "Did you eat some bacon?"

Ye Rou said calmly: "Did I say that?"

She left with the dirty clothes in her arms.

Ye Wen stared at her back and gritted his teeth.

Ye Rou must have eaten meat. To catch the thief and seize the stolen goods, she must keep an eye on Ye Rou!

——

There is a river in front of the village, which is the origin of the name of Dahe Village.

In ancient times, people used this river to travel by boat. The river was flat and wide, and in the deepest part, people could not even get their heads out.

There are lush reeds growing by the river, and goose yellow ducks are swimming around in them.

Ye Rou didn't arrive early, and the slightly flatter areas were all occupied.

The women squatted by the river, chatting while washing clothes. Chatting about trivial family matters helped to kill time, and being busy made them feel less boring and tiring.

The way of washing clothes is no different from that in ancient times. People would squat by the river and beat the clothes with a wooden mallet.

Ye Wen ran to find someone familiar.

Ye Rou avoided Ye Wen and found another place.

She picked up a piece of clothing and, imitating the aunt next to her, soaked it in water.

The three aunts closest to her were chatting.

"The Zhao family and the Wang family are fighting over Gu Huai."

"Your news is too late. The Zhao family wants Zhao Wan to marry Gu Huai. Zhao Wan doesn't want to live at home and wants to commit suicide."

"So Gu Huai is going to marry Wang Qian?"

"Here comes the funny part. Gu Huai said that the baby in Wang Qian's belly might not be his, and he refused to agree to it."

"Is Village Chief Jiang having a terrible headache?"

"Yes, I just passed by the village committee and heard the village chief cursing!"

"I think we should arrest all three of them and send them to a farm for reform. They're ruining the morale of our village."

The aunt who was talking saw Ye Rou and asked about the details of Wang Qian and Gu Huai's relationship.

"Ye girl, when did Wang Qian and Gu Huai meet?"

"Who of them took the initiative first?"

"Tell us quickly."

Throughout the ages, people have always enjoyed eating melons.

Ye Rou shook her head, "I don't know the details."

She really didn't know, after all, she didn't have the original owner's memory.

The surroundings became quiet. Ye Rou picked up the soaked clothes and started beating them hard with the mallet.

Soap powder was still very expensive in that era. Zhao Xiulan watched closely, and Ye Rou rubbed hard with her hands, trying to rub the oil stains off the clothes.

“Plop!”

Ye Rou looked up and saw three children on the opposite side of the river jumping into the water one after another like dumplings.

In this era, children are allowed to run freely. Except for Ye Rou who felt unsafe and kept staring at them, the others looked like they were used to it and didn't pay much attention.

Ye Rou immediately discovered that something was wrong with the three children. Their heads were floating in the water, and their arms kept slapping the water. One of the children was so frightened that he couldn't even shout for help.

"Someone fell into the water!"

Ye Rou shouted, threw away her clothes and jumped into the river.

Although it was midsummer, the river water was still very cold. She shivered with cold, but quickly stretched her body and swam quickly towards the three children.

The river was deep but not wide. Ye Rou approached the three children, took one in each hand and pushed them to the shore.

One of the children pulled her with exceptional strength, pressing her head firmly into the water. She held her breath, increased her speed, and finally managed to get the three children out of the water.

After reaching the shore, Ye Rou hugged her arms because of the cold. Suddenly, she heard the giggling of children. Three children pointed at her and laughed so hard that they were shaking all over.

"You've been fooled!"

"Ugly, we lied to you, we weren't drowning at all, you idiot!"

"How stupid!"

The child standing in the middle had the coldest and most vicious smile. He was the child who had just pressed Ye Rou down and prevented her from looking up.

She just thought the child was too scared, but now it seems that he did it on purpose. If Ye Rou had not held her breath, she would really die in the river.

Ye Rou sat in the sun, feeling very cold all over.

She hugged her arms tightly, and the strong malice made her tremble all over.

The voices from the other side drifted over.

"It's these same brats again. They use this trick every year and they never get tired of it."

"Only Ye girl is stupid enough to actually go and save people."

"It's strange that Zhao Xiulan could raise such a silly girl."

"Actually, this girl has a good heart, but she's just too ugly."

Ye Rou lowered her head and listened to these people's ridicule.

Suddenly, a coat was draped over her. She looked up and saw Jiang Chen, cigarette in hand, smiling sinisterly: "How pitiful."

Xiao Hu pointed at Jiang Chen and Ye Rou and made faces: "Adulterer and whore!"

Jiang Chen sneered, strode over and grabbed Xiaohu.

A big hand grabbed him and pushed his head heavily into the water.

"Gululu!" Little Tiger flapped his arms desperately.

The splashing water wet Jiang Chen's face. He smiled wickedly and pushed down Xiaohu's head twice like a ball before pulling him out. "Are you still cursing?"

Xiaohu's face turned purple from holding it in, and he shook his head desperately.

Jiang Chen patted his face: "That's good."

He let go, and Xiaohu ran away crying, shouting that he wanted to go home and complain.

Ye Rou stood up and returned the coat to Jiang Chen: "Thank you."

Jiang Chen smiled lazily, took the coat and put it on again.

Ye Rou walked back from the bridge and continued washing clothes. The coolness around her body lingered for a long time.

The aunts around were talking about the relationship between Ye Rou and Jiang Chen.

After Ye Rou finished washing the clothes, she stood up, her eyes blurred, and she fell heavily.

"Ye Rou!"

"Someone come quickly!"

——

Ye Rou opened her eyes and saw a light bulb hanging above her head. Her head felt like it was about to explode with pain. She tilted her head slightly and saw an IV bottle hanging beside the bed.

"You're awake."

An old and kind voice sounded. Ye Rou looked over and saw an old man lying on the bed opposite.

This old man was different from the other old men in the village. He had a bookish air, was skinny, and his clothes were worn but straight. He was leaning on the quilt with a book in his hand.

"Old Liu, the little girl is awake."

The sound of footsteps was heard, and an old man came over. He bent down to look at Ye Rou's face. The bitter smell of Chinese medicinal herbs on his body made Ye Rou feel particularly familiar.

The old man was thin, with neatly trimmed hair and beard.

"It's okay, it's just a sudden change from hot to cold. You can go home after the IV."

Ye Rou knew that she had fainted by the river and was sent to the clinic.

Ye Rou spoke, her voice dry, "Thank you."

Doctor Liu waved his hand casually and turned to look at the old man next to him, "Just read the book and don't do anything rash. Your blood is all gone."

"It's okay." Old Wang kept his eyes on the book.

Doctor Liu: "Is that the book that Jiang gave you again? That guy really knows what you like."

Old Wang raised his head and spoke again, his voice full of vicissitudes but not concealing his wisdom, "We are doing a deal. That boy is smart, what a pity."
