Chapter 316 Xiao Heng's Plan
"Brother Chang!"
"Brother Chang, congratulations!"
Chang Bin walked into the newspaper office, unable to suppress the joy on his face.
The newspaper sold well, and he finally proved his ability.
From now on, no one will say that he is a relative or got in through the back door.
Fang Zhuang walked towards him. Chang Bin raised his head, his eyes showing a hint of pride.
"Congratulations, Chang Bin." Fang Zhuang congratulated calmly.
Seeing Fang Zhuang remained calm, Chang Bin's face darkened for a moment before he reluctantly said, "Thank you."
"Brother Chang, the editor-in-chief wants to see you."
Chang Bin pushed Fang Zhuang aside and walked into the editor-in-chief's office with his head held high and his chest puffed out.
Fang Zhuang rubbed his hurt shoulder with a bitter expression.
Those who saw it all spoke up for Fang Zhuang.
"Fang Zhuang, are you okay?"
"It's okay." Seeing Fang Zhuang saying it was okay while rubbing his shoulders, the people around him started to feel sorry for him.
"How dare someone who got in through the backdoor be so arrogant."
"It's just an article, look how amazing it is."
"Fang Zhuang, don't be afraid, we are all on your side."
Fang Zhuang comforted everyone, "Don't worry, I'm fine."
He sat back in his seat and glanced towards the editor-in-chief's office.
It won't be him who is in trouble.
Chang Bin, on the other hand, was in real trouble.
He closed the file, which contained an investigation into Ye Rou's social relations.
Fang Zhuang suppressed the secret curl of his lips and continued to rub his shoulders as if in pain.
——
His father was on the phone, his face serious.
"I see. Okay, I'll go now. Yeah, yes, we should learn from this lesson and reflect on it seriously."
Changbin was completely confused by what he heard.
After his father hung up the phone, Chang Bin raised his eyebrows and said proudly, "The printing factory has started printing more copies."
Chang Wen threw himself into the chair, rubbing his brow in pain, "Tell them to stop."
"Huh?" Chang Bin: "Why stop? This issue of the newspaper is selling like hotcakes, there's no shortage of sales."
Chang Wen raised his head, his expression serious. "Let me ask you, has Director Jiang told you that there are still two human traffickers at large?"
“He told me that,” Chang Bin replied nonchalantly, “What does this have to do with the newspaper?”
Seeing that he had not yet realized the seriousness of the problem, Chang Wen slammed the table and stood up with a frighteningly cold expression.
"What does it matter!" he roared, "If the two fugitive human traffickers see the newspaper and retaliate against Ye Rou, will you be held responsible?"
Chang Bin had been afraid of his father since he was a child. He trembled when he was yelled at, but he said unconvincedly, "But we are reporters, we should report the truth of the news."
Chang Wen poked the newspaper with his fingers so hard that he almost poked a hole in it.
"Whether it's for the truth of the news or the position of deputy editor-in-chief, you know it clearly!"
Chang Bin felt guilty for a moment, but soon stiffened his neck and said, "I've already written the article. If anything happens to Comrade Ye Rou, I'll be responsible."
"You are responsible, how can you be responsible!" Chang Wen wanted to use a stick to knock open his stupid son's head to see whether there was a brain inside or it was full of water.
He and his wife were busy with work, so they left their son in the care of the elderly at home. When he took his son home, he found that the child had been spoiled. He was extremely self-confident, with his eyes stuck on his head.
I originally thought he was just arrogant, but I didn't expect him to be so stupid!
The most terrifying thing is to be stupid and not know it.
Chang Wen asked him: "Do you know whose call I answered just now?"
"Who is it?"
"It's a call from Commander Liang of the Military Region!" Chang Wen grew angrier as he thought about it, his voice rising again. "Before this call, I also received calls from Commander Li of the Military Region and Zheng Zhiyuan, Director of the CPPCC!"
Changbin shrugged, not daring to ask why they were calling.
With these huge mountains pressing down on him, Chang Bin became timid.
He whispered, "I'll contact the newspaper to stop printing more."
Before Chang Wen could speak, the phone rang again.
He pointed his finger at Chang Bin in the air, suppressed his anger and answered the phone.
Chang Bin secretly glanced at his father's expression. He didn't know what was said on the other end, but his father's shoulders immediately slumped, and in a moment he started wiping the sweat off his face with his sleeves.
“Yes, we accept investigation and rectification.”
After hanging up the phone, Chang Wen smiled bitterly.
Changbin asked curiously, "Dad, who's calling?"
"It's a call from the chief's secretary."
Chang Wen gave the answer, looked up at his son, and said in a hoarse voice, "You don't need to come to the newspaper office tomorrow."
"What's the meaning?"
"You're fired."
Chang Bin's legs went weak, and his previous complacency disappeared, his face pale.
——
As usual, Jiang Chen came to pick up Ye Rou after get off work. The jeep drove out of the military area, and Ye Rou frowned and looked out the window.
"What's wrong?" Jiang Chen asked.
Ye Rou shook her head, "Nothing."
Only after the jeep drove away did Xiao Heng emerge from the corner and wipe the cold sweat from his forehead.
There was gauze wrapped around his head, which was caused by Ye Rou hitting him with a stone.
Xiao Heng was completely afraid of Ye Rou. He thought that after getting money from Sun Xiaoxing, he would go to Gangcheng and never come back to Beijing.
Because of what happened yesterday, Xiao Heng was afraid that the guard at the door would recognize him. He didn't dare to get too close and squatted on the side waiting for Sun Xiaoxing to come out.
"Comrade, may I ask if the girl above works here?"
The woman wearing a headscarf and tattered clothes pointed at the photo in the newspaper and asked the guard at the door.
The guard glanced at the newspaper and asked cautiously, "Who are you? Why are you asking about her?"
"I'm her aunt." The woman seemed frightened and immediately explained, "My husband died and my in-laws kicked me out. She's the only relative I have left, so I had no choice but to come to Beijing to seek refuge with her."
The younger guards felt sorry for her and were touched.
The older guard said sternly, "We don't know. Please leave."
The woman was frightened and left in a panic.
"Squad leader?" Seeing the woman staggering, the young guard looked puzzled.
"Stand your ground and mind your own business."
Xiao Heng turned his eyes slightly, stared at the woman, and followed her for a while.
I chased him into a secluded alley and came face to face with a gun.
The woman had a cold expression on her face and pointed the gun at his head.
Xiao Heng paused, turned around and tried to run, but his way was blocked by a man whose face looked as if he had been scalded by boiling water, and the skin on the side of his face was charred.
"Boy, why are you following my sister?" the man grabbed Xiao Heng's neck and asked.
The woman who had been timid at the door just now now relaxed, her expression calm but dangerous. She glanced up and down at Xiao Heng, "Laizi, let him go."
Lai Zi let go, and Xiao Heng coughed hard before he could catch his breath.
"Sorry, my brother has a bad temper." The woman spoke gently, "Comrade, why are you following me?"
Xiao Heng didn't say anything, his eyes fell on the newspaper the woman was holding.
The woman's expression changed slightly. She unfolded the newspaper, pointed at the photo and asked, "Do you know the girl in it?"
Xiao Heng nodded.
The woman immediately smiled and said, "Great! I'm her aunt. I came to Beijing just to find her. Can you tell me where she is?"
"She doesn't have any younger sister-in-law. Who are you?" Xiao Heng looked at the gun in the woman's hand, then at the ferocious-looking man. Thinking of what he had read in the newspaper, he suddenly realized, "You are human traffickers."
The man grabbed Xiao Heng's hair and said, "Boy, you talk too much nonsense. You just answer whatever my sister asks you. Got it?"
Xiao Heng screamed in pain.
When Sister Hong saw that it was almost time, she signaled Lai Zi to let go.
She said gently, "Tell us everything you know, and we won't make things difficult for you."
Xiao Heng thought of the debt collectors lingering outside his house and licked his cracked lips.
"I can take you to find her, but you have to pay me."
Seeing that he was being so arrogant, Lai Zi became furious and raised his hand to slap him.
Xiao Heng raised his head fearlessly, his expression showing a ruthless determination to fight to the death.
"Kill me if you can."
Anyway, I will be hacked to death by the debt collectors when I go back. It's death anyway, so there's nothing to be afraid of.
Sister Hong chuckled, "Little brother, we can discuss this."
Xiao Heng straightened his messed-up clothes and said, "Don't worry, I hate her too. I won't tell anyone. Just give me the money and we can talk it over."
"I agree."
Sister Hong curled her lips slightly, her eyes filled with greed as she thought of the girl in the newspaper.
She will squeeze all the compensation money out of Ye Rou this time.
