Chapter 33 The Village Chief Comes

Chapter 33 The Village Chief Comes

When Jiang Chen returned, he ran into a man standing at the door, raising his hand to knock.

His face darkened as he walked over. "Who?"

Wang Hongjun immediately said, "It's me, Wang Hongjun."

Jiang Chen's voice was cold, "What are you doing here?"

Wang Hongjun held up the things in his hand and said, "Brother Jiang, I want to give something to Ye Rou to thank her for saving my wife's life."

Wang Hongjun explained the whole story. When Jiang Chen heard that Ye Rou encountered a snake when she went up the mountain, his face darkened.

Wang Hongjun felt colder and colder as he spoke. He stuffed the things in his hand to Jiang Chen and said, "This is the money from selling snake gallbladders and the hot sauce my wife brought from home."

He delivered the things and ran away immediately. Jiang Chen was too scary.

Jiang Chen carried the things in his hand into the yard, washed the dishes and put them back in the cupboard, and went into the house with the money given by Wang Hongjun.

There was no movement in the east room. He knocked on the door, but no one answered.

He frowned slightly and pushed open the door. There was a quilt spread on the kang. The room was clean except for Ye Rou.

He felt uneasy for no reason.

His quilt was spread on the kang. He turned and went to the west room, opened the door, and saw Ye Rou lying obediently on the kang.

She was sleeping in a mess, with the quilt pressed under her body, and her top was lifted up, revealing half of her fair and slender waist.

Seeing that she was still there, he breathed a sigh of relief, and then an even stronger emotion burst out from the bottom of his heart.

Ye Rou opened her eyes hazily and saw Jiang Chen standing at the door, staring at her with a serious look.

"What's wrong?"

Ye Rou sat up confusedly.

Jiang Chen asked her, "Why did you end up sleeping in this room?"

Ye Rou sat up straight, covering her waist with her jacket, "This is your home, I should live here."

She knew her own situation, and Jiang Chen should be happy, but he was furious and couldn't smile. He handed over the money in his hand and said, "Wang Hongjun has returned the money you earned from selling snake gall."

"Oh." Ye Rou went to take the money. Just as she was about to touch it, Jiang Chen's hand retracted. She was puzzled: "What's wrong?"

Jiang Chen asked coldly, "Why didn't you tell me when you encountered a snake in the mountains?"

This little monster screamed in fear when he saw a mouse, but he didn't even mention a snake when he saw one.

Ye Rou blinked, "I'm fine again."

"Tell me even if you have nothing to say." Jiang Chen finally realized that something was wrong. This little devil was unusually quiet today and did not chatter in his ear.

"Why?" Don't you think I'm troublesome? Ye Rou didn't ask the last sentence.

Jiang Chen snorted coldly, "If you die in an accident, who will pay me back my two hundred yuan?"

Ye Rou's eyes dimmed for a moment. It turned out to be because of this.

She said in a muffled voice: "I know, I will tell you later."

She agreed readily, but Jiang Chen still felt a lump in his chest, which was neither going up nor down, and was becoming more and more oppressive.

He rubbed his head, his brows furrowed tightly.

Ye Rou lay back in bed, not looking at him, "I'm going to sleep."

Jiang Chen understood what she meant and stood up and left.

It’s just that the footsteps were particularly heavy.

Ye Rou was no longer sleepy and stared at the ceiling. She had a lot of thoughts in her head, but it seemed like she was thinking nothing.

She had to collect enough money to pay Jiang Chen back as soon as possible. She already had fifteen yuan, and there was still one hundred and eighty-five yuan left.

——

Ye Rou got up early and made some bamboo shoot and chicken wontons with bread. She cooked them with last night's mushroom soup and blanched two green vegetables in it.

Jiang Chen stood up and the aroma filled his nose. The white and tender wontons floated in the bowl, like small fish with big tails.

He picked one up and put it in his mouth. It was a little hot, but extremely delicious, with smooth and tender fillings that were refreshing. He couldn't stop eating it.

Seeing that he hadn't touched the vegetables in his bowl, Ye Rou couldn't help but say, "Vegetables are good for your health..."

Jiang Chen was annoyed by her nagging, so he picked up a piece of green vegetables with chopsticks and stuffed it into his mouth, showing reluctance, with the corners of his lips always curled up.

"Jiang boy!"

There was a knock on the iron door outside, and Jiang Chen went to open it.

Village chief Jiang stood outside the door and looked at Jiang Chen with a strange look. This kid finally has some popularity. He used to have a gloomy face every day and never smiled in a year.

He followed Jiang Chen into the yard. The weed-covered yard had been cleaned up. Mushrooms picked from the mountains were drying under the eaves, and a few pickled vegetable jars were placed in the shade.

This scene, which can be seen everywhere in ordinary homes, made Village Chief Jiang's eyes warm. He knew that these changes in Jiang boy were because of Ye Rou.

That's good, very good.

He was originally afraid that he would harm these two young people, but now seeing that they were living well, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.

"Village Chief." Ye Rou saw Village Chief Jiang coming and cooked the remaining wontons.

Jiang Chen was a little reluctant. The wontons tasted good, and he hadn't eaten enough. "Uncle Jiang, did you come here after breakfast?"

Village Chief Jiang smelled the fragrance as soon as he came in. He didn't want to bother Ye Rou at first, but now that he saw Jiang Chen guarding his food, he became unhappy and simply sat down. "You kid, can't I eat a bite of your food?"

Jiang Chen was about to speak, but Ye Rou held him back and said, "I'll do it for you tomorrow."

He shut his mouth, sat opposite Village Chief Jiang, and drank soup from the bowl.

When Village Chief Jiang saw that Ye Rou was able to hold down the boy, the smile on his face became even wider.

Ye Rou brought the wontons to Village Chief Jiang. He looked down and saw that they looked delicious!

He took the chopsticks and took a bite of the wontons, which were white and almost transparent, the emerald green vegetables, and the milky white soup.

As soon as he took a sip, his eyes widened.

The wontons were soft and tender, with a thin and light skin and delicious filling. He chewed them twice and swallowed them. He stopped talking and just lowered his head to eat.

Jiang Chen saw that there was really no wonton left, and then looked at Village Chief Jiang eating with relish, and his brows sank again.

Village Chief Jiang even drank the soup. When he looked up again, he saw the two young men staring at him intently. He didn't feel embarrassed. He put down the bowl and praised Ye Rou's cooking skills with a smile.

"Ye girl, your cooking skills were definitely at the level of a royal chef in the past."

"These wontons you made are absolutely amazing."

Ye Rou felt a little embarrassed by the compliment and hid behind Jiang Chen.

Jiang Chen disliked Village Chief Jiang and interrupted him, "Uncle, what are you doing here?"

Village chief Jiang glanced at Jiang Chen and said, "You little rascal, you're so lucky to have met a good girl like Ye Rou. She's pretty, has a good personality, and her cooking skills are impeccable."

"Old Liu from the clinic said he was too busy, so he asked Miss Ye to go there to help him." Village Chief Jiang turned to Ye Rou and smiled kindly, "It's not in vain that I asked you to help me. I'll give you work points."

"Need not."

"I want to go."

The two people spoke at the same time, but what they said were completely different.

Jiang Chen's face was gloomy. "You are not allowed to go."

Ye Rou looked at Village Chief Jiang and said firmly, "Village Chief, I want to go."

Village Chief Jiang ignored Jiang Chen and nodded with a smile, "You can go over today."

Jiang Chen's face was darker than the bottom of a pot. Village Chief Jiang dragged him out and said, "See me off. Ye Rou, get ready."

"Goodbye, Village Chief." Ye Rou smiled and waved to the Village Chief.

Village chief Jiang regretted not letting his wife give birth to a daughter. Look what a wonderful girl she is.

He glanced at Jiang Chen and asked, "Who are you showing off your gloomy face to?"

"Working at the clinic is so great! You don't have to work in the fields, and there's no wind or sun. Others can't even go if they want to!"

Jiang Chen said coldly: "She doesn't have to work in the fields, I can support her."

A little monster eats less than a cat.

Seeing him like this, Village Chief Jiang felt his hands itching, "You must respect Comrade Ye Rou's wishes."

Jiang Chen suppressed his anger and took two quick steps to escort Village Chief Jiang out the door.

"You have a bad temper." Village Chief Jiang scolded him, "Talk to Ye Rou nicely. If you make her angry, I'll see what you'll do!"

Jiang Chen scoffed, "She has nowhere else to go except here with me."

Ye Rou was cleaning the kitchen, with an apron tied around her waist that she had found from somewhere, which made her waist look extremely thin.

Jiang Chen: "Do you really want to go to the clinic?"

Ye Rou dipped the bowl into the water and said, "Hmm."

Jiang Chen ordered domineeringly, "Don't go."

"Why?" Ye Rou straightened up and stared at Jiang Chen.

Jiang Chen couldn't explain the reason. "Anyway, you're not allowed to go. I can support you. You don't need to work in the fields to earn work points."

Ye Rou knew that he was telling the truth. He learned mechanical modification from a master in the cowshed, collected a batch of broken radios and damaged parts from the factory, repaired them, and then resold them, making a lot of money.

The Ye family still eats mixed rice, while Jiang Chen's rice jar is filled with white rice and refined flour.

Ye Rou still insisted: "I want to go!"

Jiang Chen said nothing, his face gloomy. He glanced at Ye Rou, slammed the door and left.

Seeing him walk away without even looking back, Ye Rou angrily threw the rag in her hand and said, "Idiot."

After a while, she picked up the rag, washed the dishes and cleaned the kitchen.

After closing the iron door, she went straight to the clinic.
