Chapter 42 Braised Pork
Ye Rou said goodbye to the Zhou family and left holding Jiang Chen's hand.
She didn't say a word the whole way. From Jiang Chen's perspective, her cheeks were puffed up, like white and tender buns.
Seeing that she hadn't spoken, Jiang Chen pulled her back and said in a dry tone, "Are you angry?"
Ye Rou snorted.
Jiang Chen leaned over and looked into her eyes: "Why are you angry?"
Ye Rou was stared at by him, and her face flushed. She turned her head and saw the bright red slap mark on Jiang Chen's face. She felt uncomfortable: "Aunt Zhou hit you, why didn't you dodge?"
He put his hands in his pockets and said in a relaxed tone: "Didn't you ask me to guard the door?"
Ye Rou's heart was filled with ripples: "Are you stupid?"
Jiang Chen laughed angrily and flicked Ye Rou's head.
Little heartless.
His movements looked fierce, but when he actually hit Ye Rou on the head, he only dissipated 80% of his strength.
Ye Rou pouted. Aunt Zhou was doing it for Zhou Nian, and Jiang Chen was just listening to her. She was so angry that she didn't know who to blame.
"Duck." Jiang Chen saw her pouting lips and reached out to pinch them.
The touch was so soft and tender that he froze.
Ye Rou slapped his hand away and glared at him.
It looks puffed up, not like a duck, but more like a chicken with its feathers standing on end.
Jiang Chen rubbed Ye Rou's head and said, "Don't be angry, I'm not in pain."
Hearing his words, Ye Rou sighed. Seeing the clinic, she remembered what she had done today: "I have a master."
Jiang Chen understood: "Old Liu from the clinic?"
Ye Rou was dissatisfied: "Don't call me Master Lao Liu, it sounds ugly."
Jiang Chen snorted and laughed.
Ye Rou dragged him to the clinic to find the master, but the clinic was closed and the master was not there.
"Where did he go?" Ye Rou went to the small house in the backyard and looked around but there was no one there.
Jiang Chen leaned lazily against the wall: "He must have gone out for a medical consultation."
Ye Rou looked at the bright red fingerprints on Jiang Chen's face and the slightly swollen side of his face, and said with regret: "I can't get the ointment to reduce the swelling."
Jiang Chen dragged her towards the house at the foot of the mountain, saying nonchalantly, "It was just a slap, and you need ointment?"
Ye Rou was dissatisfied with his indifferent attitude. In the later part of the book, Jiang Chen made a lot of money and had status, fame, and power, but he hurt himself madly and went further and further on the road of self-destruction.
Thinking of the ending of the book: [Today is Jiang Chen’s 40th birthday. He is lying lazily on the sofa in a black suit, surrounded by his younger brothers and people who come to celebrate. The villa is bustling with lights and wine.
But he found everything boring and tedious, so he went upstairs alone.
A moment later, a gunshot rang out.]
Ye Rou grabbed Jiang Chen's hand and said, "Let's go home. What do you want to eat?"
Jiang Chen keenly noticed that this little devil was beginning to feel sorry for him again. Although he didn't know why, it didn't stop him from being aggressive and asking, "Can you make me whatever I want to eat?"
"Um."
Ye Rou's eyes were sparkling and full of anticipation.
Jiang Chen thought of the wild boar trapped in the trap in the back mountain: "I want to eat braised pork."
He had seen Jiang Huan eat braised pork, which was bright red and shiny. He had eaten it in a state-owned restaurant and it didn't taste very good.
Ye Rou agreed: "I'll do it for you."
Jiang Chen went to the back mountain to carry the wild boar, and Ye Rou entered the yard.
The original wasteland was turned over and tilled, and it was where Jiang Chen planted soybeans.
She went to the kitchen and searched everywhere. She couldn't make sugar color without rock sugar. She went to the west room, took out the money from under the pillow, and went out to find Zhao Cui.
Jiang Chen walked briskly down the mountain carrying the wild boar.
The door was closed. He pushed it open and went in. The yard was quiet and Ye Rou was not there.
His face suddenly darkened.
——
Ye Rou came back after borrowing some rock sugar and saw that Jiang Chen had already returned. He was sitting on a chair with his back to her, his long legs stretched out and his back hunched.
"You're back."
Jiang Chen turned around, a cigarette between his lips, his brows gloomy and a bit irritable.
"Where have you been?"
Ye Rou didn't notice anything was wrong with him and shook the rock sugar in her hand. "We need to fry the sugar color to make the braised pork. I went to Zhao Cui to exchange some rock sugar."
She walked past Jiang Chen and grabbed her wrist with one hand, holding it tightly.
Looking up along the wheat-colored hand, Jiang Chen's expression was very calm.
Ye Rou was puzzled: "What's wrong?"
Jiang Chen's eyes were deep, like the sea: "Next time, no matter where you go, you must tell me."
"Okay." Ye Rou agreed readily. Seeing the bound wild boar lying at Jiang Chen's feet, she shook her hand, "You take care of the pig. I'll go steam the rice first."
Jiang Chen loosened his grip little by little, his eyes never leaving Ye Rou's face.
Like confirming something.
Ye Rou was unaware of this and stared at the wild boar, wondering which part of the meat to use for the braised pork. The wild boar's testicles had not been removed, so would the meat be fishy?
Jiang Chen picked up the wild boar and went to the well in the backyard.
Ye Rou didn't dare to follow because the backyard was not cleaned up and there were rats in it.
She went to the kitchen, washed the rice, steamed it in a pot, and covered it with cleaned bamboo leaves. This way, the steamed rice would have the fragrance of bamboo.
Jiang Chen came back carrying the processed pig and holding a bloody kitchen knife in his hand.
This piglet weighed fifty kilograms, and the meat was tender. Jiang Chen held up a kitchen knife and asked, "Which part do you want to use?"
It is said that men who spend money on women are the most handsome. Jiang Chen's clothes were stained with blood, and he was holding a kitchen knife in his hand. His wheat-colored skin was firm, his exposed arms were wrapped with blue veins, his eyebrows were sharp and handsome, and he was so handsome.
Ye Rou's heart beat faster than raindrops.
Jiang Chen asked again, and she finally reacted. She leaned over and took a look at the pig, then picked out the pink and white pork belly: "This one."
"Yeah." Jiang Chen nodded, picked up the kitchen knife and started cutting.
Ye Rou covered her pounding heart and cursed herself for being useless.
Pour oil into the pot and heat it until it is slightly hot, then pour in rock sugar and stir-fry until the rock sugar melts.
Boil hot water in another pot, pour in spices to remove the fishy smell, pour in the chopped pork, scald off the pig hair, and remove the fishy smell.
Take out the blanched pork, pour in melted rock sugar, stir-fry until every piece of meat is colored, add seasonings in turn, pour in appropriate proportion of water, and simmer for a while.
It was getting hotter and hotter as summer began. Ye Rou was sweating profusely from cooking a meal, and her hair stuck to her forehead, making her look very disheveled.
Jiang Chen saw it, said something to Ye Rou, and went out.
The braised pork was ready. Jiang Chen came back and went to the backyard with something in his hand.
Ye Rou served the braised pork, placed it on the table, and called him.
Jiang Chen came out from the backyard and couldn't take his eyes off the braised pork on the table.
The pink and white pork turned into a burnt red, covered in amber soup, and piled up in the bowl.
He picked up the chopsticks, picked up a piece and hurriedly stuffed it into his mouth. The piece of meat melted in his mouth. He just chewed it lightly and the rich gravy burst out.
Ye Rou served him a bowl of rice.
He picked up a piece of meat and placed it on the rice, then put them into his mouth. The fragrance of bamboo relieved the greasiness of the braised pork.
Jiang Chen couldn't stop eating one bite after another.
