Chapter 135 His blue eyes shone with a mesmerizing light…
As time went by, my belly grew bigger and bigger, and I no longer had the courage to have an abortion here. Medical and pharmaceutical knowledge was outdated, and I dared not harm my own body.
I live a very relaxed life every day. Sometimes I'm doing housework, sometimes I'm spacing out, and sometimes I'm just idly touching my stomach.
They love to sleep, and can sleep several times a day for two hours at a time. They can sleep from after dinner until the next morning.
I have absolutely no idea what Di Yaru is doing, nor do I want to know; the initial anxiety about information has completely vanished. I'm often in a daze, not wanting to care about anything.
I don't care what the outside world is like now; as my belly grows bigger, I only feel more pressure.
Bernard seems to have completely forgotten he's from the East, spending all his time here. He'll show up almost immediately whenever I'm free and awake.
I had just finished dinner and was taking a walk in the garden when Bernard appeared again.
"You look good today," he said, the summer evening breeze ruffling his long silver hair and revealing his alluringly beautiful face. "Here you go." He handed over a delicate and beautiful little gold box, which was quite heavy.
"What is this?" I asked curiously as I opened the small golden box.
“The seal of a royal city.” His blue eyes shone with a dazzling light. “Your name is engraved on it.”
"What's the meaning?!"
"It means that you are now the master of this royal city."
I took out that exquisite gold seal, and my name was indeed engraved on the bottom.
"After years of effort, I have finally conquered this royal city, which is now entirely my private property. It is yours now."
I looked at him, puzzled. He said softly, almost coquettishly, "My apology, baby."
I suddenly understood: the four years I was imprisoned for because of his mistress was his way of making amends.
"Thank you." I accepted it without hesitation. To be honest, I felt it wasn't enough.
"If I conquer more royal cities in the future, I will still give them to you if you want them."
"Thank you very much." I happily put the small gold box into my pocket.
"Now, will you smile at me?" He looked at me expectantly.
I burst out laughing. "Are you crazy? Giving away a city just to make someone smile?"
He then gave that aggrieved look, "I want more, but that depends on whether you're willing to give it to me."
I laughed even harder, turned around and left, ignoring him completely.
At the garden exit not far away, I saw Di Yaruo's surprised expression.
“I’ve known Prince Bernard for so long, and I’ve never seen him act so servile.” In the spacious royal study, Di Yaruo and I were having afternoon tea together.
"Humble and subservient? No way?" I poured myself a cup of hot black tea.
“Even if it’s to atone for your four years in prison, there’s no need to act like this,” Di Yaruo sighed. “Everyone knows that Prince Bernot is always arrogant, aloof, and haughty, but I never expected him to be so humble in front of you.”
"No, that's all." I firmly denied this claim and changed the subject, "By the way, what happened to his mistress? The one who got me imprisoned."
"She has broken up with Bernard and has been staying at home ever since she was disfigured, but she is rich and her face is much better than before. She also has two more lovers."
"Where's Sha Ling?"
Di Yaruo frowned, and after thinking for a while, she remembered who Shaling was. "Her? She's a nobody. I didn't even bother to find out what happened to her later. I'm not interested."
She laughed dismissively. "There are plenty of maids. If one is gone, just find another. By the way, let me introduce you to two maids."
I was taken aback. She usually just made the arrangements; was she going to introduce me now?
She clapped her hands twice, and the door to the Imperial Study opened, revealing Imera and Eve standing in the doorway.
I was taken aback. They had all lost weight and looked much more haggard than I had seen them in a while. Eve, in particular, was incredibly thin, her cheeks sunken. Imera fared slightly better, just haggard, but not as much thinner.
The two men walked in slowly and bowed to us.
"After they separated from you, they were sold to a perverted rich merchant. The green-haired one fared a little better, only working as an ordinary maid and occasionally being played with by the merchant; the courtesan fared much worse, being beautiful and with a good figure, she was often tortured by the merchant. When they heard that you had arrived in the capital of the Western Territory, they made a pact to escape. They lingered in front of the palace for several days, unable to get in, so they worked in a small tavern for more than a month, using the money they earned to bribe the gatekeeper, and only then were they able to send a message in."
Di Yaruo slowly took a sip of hot tea before continuing, "Originally, their affairs would never have reached me, but Bernard wanted to select new maids for you, fearing there might be spies during your childbirth. He said he needed to re-select reliable maids, and someone brought in a message saying that your former maids had come to join you. I happened to be there and found it strange, so I summoned them in."
So that's how it is.
"You guys chat for a while, I'm going to bed now." Di Yaruo put down her teacup, covered her mouth and yawned, then slowly walked out.
Imera and Aifu quickly bowed and saw them off.
As soon as the door closed, Imera and Eve burst into tears, recounting all that had happened since their separation, saying that they had truly suffered.
“It was better for you when you weren’t chosen in the desert,” Eve said, crying. “We really suffered a lot afterward.”
"What happened to you afterward?" Imera had already wiped away her tears.
I told them about Haiya and how I had whipped her, and they were stunned.
Imera couldn't help but sigh, "No one has it easy, and you have it easy too."
Aifu lamented that she didn't have the courage to whip that perverted tycoon.
“Haya was all alone back then, with no relatives or friends and no support, so of course I dared to fight her.” I handed each of them a piece of bread. “If it were that rich businessman, I really wouldn’t dare to fight him. If I did, I would be met with retaliation.”
They laughed as they ate their bread.
I was struggling with what to do with them. I could keep Imera by my side, but Eve… she used to be a high-class socialite, and I was afraid she wouldn’t be used to serving others. Even if she forced herself to do it, she would still harbor resentment.
I then spoke to Eve alone, asking, "Would you really like to be my maid?"
She knelt down on the carpet, and no one could stop her. "I am willing to be the Queen's maid."
I remember a long time ago in the wilderness, she was Bernard's fiancée, a worldly young lady from the capital, and I was Bernard's "chief mistress," seemingly a "country girl." The difference in our status was quite great. She was bossy, scheming, and had high aspirations. I was afraid she was unwilling to be a maid.
Seeing her kneeling on the ground with her head down, and recalling the vast difference between then and now, I sighed softly, "Although I don't know what happened to you later, given your noble status, I can't very well arrange for you to be a maid."
She immediately replied, "The Queen's maids should be of noble birth or from families with hereditary maids. I am the right person to be your maid."
I sighed. Although I didn't know what happened to her later, or what made her change, I knew that a person's character, scheming, and temperament are very difficult to change.
"How about this, I'll assign you to be the team leader in charge of clothing and apparel for now," I said.
She seemed about to say something more, but seeing my resolute expression, she thanked me and got up to leave.
The setting sun painted the sky with a breathtakingly beautiful summer evening. Pale red sunlight streamed down the pillars of the open corridor, casting a hazy, beautiful halo. I followed Aifu out of the study and walked alone on the smooth tiles of the corridor, my pace slowing as I admired the view.
"You don't need to worry about that woman. She won't steal your lover or climb over you to get ahead." A clear and bright little girl's voice suddenly came.
I paused for a moment and saw Beatrice sitting on the steps of the corridor ahead. I hadn't seen her for a while, and she had changed a lot. Her once pointed face had become much rounder, and her hair had grown past her waist. When she looked over, her eyes were calm and cold.
"Which woman?" I walked over to her and sat down with her on the steps.
“It’s that woman who just came out of the study. I was passing by and heard you talking.” Beatrice’s eyes held a maturity beyond her years.
"And then? Why do you make that judgment?" I asked with great interest.
“Her spirit and energy have been largely destroyed, and her will to live has been crushed. If you offer her a ladder to climb, she will be afraid of falling. Therefore, she dares not climb up by stepping on you,” Beatrice said calmly.
"Are you so sure?" I laughed.
Beatrice didn't answer me, but slowly, very slowly, turned her face towards me. "Are you going to be my mother's queen and Prince Bernot's mistress at the same time, while carrying the Elf King's child?"
"What do you want to say?" I asked, slightly surprised.
“Prince Bernot will never marry you, and neither will the Elf King. One of them is going to marry a high-ranking nobleman, and the other would never marry someone of another race. Even if they could, they wouldn’t marry you. My mother only signed the marriage contract with you because you are the legendary woman with supernatural abilities and she thinks you can help her. You have only been used all along. Are you willing to accept that?” she said very slowly.
"Do you have any good ideas?" I asked her curiously.
Her eyes were deep and cold. "My mother intends to have another son so that she will have an heir. But I intend to become the Queen of the West. If she has another son, it will be detrimental to me. If you can help me preserve my position, I promise you that you will be the master of this largest independent royal city."
I laughed out loud. It's not even certain whether her mother can become the Queen of the West, yet this little girl already thinks she is.
She slowly stood up, stopped talking, turned around coldly, and quickly disappeared at the end of the corridor.
In the following days, I heard that Di Yaruo and Haiya were having sex every night. To liven things up, Di Yaruo even invited two more women over, and the group had a great time together.
The affairs of these nobles are truly difficult for ordinary people to understand.
When she was about five months pregnant, the Elf King's messenger arrived, bringing with him a pile of expensive gifts and servants.
"King knows you won't want to go back, so he specially ordered us to send our greetings to you," the elven messenger said respectfully.
"I received it, you can go back now."
The elven messenger hesitated for a moment before saying, "The king asks if you wish to return to the secret realm?"
Isn't this a rhetorical question? I turned my face away, and the elf messenger continued, "The king said that if you are willing to go back, he is willing to give you three islands and make you the queen of the islands."
