Chapter 166 She laughed loudly, her face still showing some...
I didn't reply. She's already remarried, what's the point of replying?!
After several days of resting during my pregnancy, my vomiting became more and more severe. I could hardly eat anything; I would vomit as soon as I ate. I could only manage to drink a little plain porridge.
Manberia summoned several royal physicians for me, but none of them could help me.
Manberia was furious and threw them all into prison. When I found out, I was both amused and exasperated, and released them.
“It’s just pregnancy symptoms, there’s nothing they can do,” I sighed to Mamboya. “It’ll probably get better after three months.”
"I hope it gets better." He stroked my face. "You've lost so much weight, and you can't eat anything at all."
I turned my face with a faint smile. "Who have you been hanging out with these days?"
His face was embarrassed. "It's just a routine matter."
I heard that he's been frequently bathing and spending the night with his mistress lately, and having a great time at all-night parties. My cousin, on the other hand, is still helping him take care of his wife. Just when he and his mistress were having a good time, she came running in crying, saying that her sister's illness had flared up again and begging him to go see her immediately. For the sake of his wife's family's reputation, he would ignore the mistress's displeasure, hurriedly put on his robe, and go see his wife, whose manic episode had relapsed.
The chief mistress played the role of a wild lover, while the cousin played the role of an innocent flower—both are what men need.
My fingers danced across his chest. “It’s hard for one woman to satisfy a man’s needs. What a man needs is a woman who is alluring, fiery, innocent, passionate, intelligent, pure, and complex all at once. But it’s hard to find a woman who embodies all these qualities. So he has to have multiple women. But desires are never satisfied. Once one desire is satisfied, another will come. It’s endless. What can be done?”
"You're overthinking it." He grabbed my fingers. "My relationship with them is just so-so."
"Then where did you get your skills in bed? They're practically at a master level. Don't tell me you could have developed them all by yourself," I said casually.
"Thank you for the compliment!" He smiled very sweetly. "You've praised me for my superb skills. I will work even harder in the future."
"How are you planning to train?" I asked him. "How many women will you train with?"
He snuggled closer to me like a spoiled child, "Can I practice on you after I'm all better?"
I moved away a little, but he sidled up to me again. "Don't do this to me, it will hurt me."
I glared at him angrily, but he shamelessly moved closer and even kissed me on the cheek. I was about to explode with rage when I heard my little white-flower cousin's urgent voice from outside the study, "Brother Manboya, sister is throwing things again."
Manberia, who had already hugged me, said casually, "Let her throw it away. Find more things for her to throw away."
“But she…threw all her personal maids out the window.”
——
The corridor was in complete chaos, with heavy footsteps and several maids and servants rushing back and forth, calling out anxiously. From the entrance of the corridor to the room of Mamboya's wife, everything was in complete disarray.
The short lady I had seen before had jumped onto the window and was about to jump down despite the maids' desperate pleas. One or two of the maids were so frightened that they started to cry.
This is the scene that greeted us when Manboya and I arrived. I didn't want to come, but when Manboya saw the mocking look on my cousin's face, he insisted on dragging me along, saying that we really had something to do, not to flirt with my cousin or try to improve our relationship.
I refused to come, but he actually carried me to him.
The short lady turned around, saw me, and suddenly grinned, pointing at me: "Her, I've seen her before."
I was surprised; we had only met at a wedding years ago, yet she remembered me.
“Don’t let her seemingly crazy personality fool you, she has an exceptionally good memory,” Mamboya told me.
"Hello, my name is Matian." She shouted as she threw something at me. It was dark and blurry, and if Mamboya hadn't quickly pulled me back, I would have hit it.
The dark thing that landed at my feet turned out to be dog poop.
She laughed, a hint of regret on her face—she hadn't hit me.
"Madam went out early this morning to pick up dog poop and put it in the flower basket, insisting on bringing it back," a maid explained to Manberia with a mournful face.
"Couldn't you have thrown it away when she wasn't looking?!" Mamboa roared.
The maid knelt down and cried, "Madam has been holding the flower basket tightly the whole time and won't let go."
"Useless thing! Get out!" Manberia roared. "You're no longer in charge of the maids."
The head maid left in tears, startling the other maids, including me. Only the noisy person on the windowsill continued to make a fuss. My cousin, Little White Flower, was already beside her, coaxing and urging her to come down quickly.
"No!" she said, pointing at me. "I want to throw her down; it'll be so much fun!"
Little White Flower's cousin's face changed drastically, "No, absolutely not!"
"I want it! I'll have it!" she cried, kicking her legs like a child.
Manberia came over and coaxed, "Come down now, and I'll have a nice meal with you tonight."
"No, no, I want to throw her, I want to throw her down!" she cried and screamed. "I want to throw her down like before!"
"Why did you throw her away?" Manberia asked, trying to sound as gentle as possible.
“Because it’s so much fun,” she cried, “throwing it down is like throwing a rag doll.”
Mamboya said softly, "Then how about I find someone else to throw it for you?"
The maids' faces changed, fearing they would be thrown down.
She punched and kicked Manberia, shouting, "No, no, I want her! You've been watching her the whole time. On our wedding day, you brought her in now, and I'm going to throw her, throw her to death!"
I was horrified. She actually knew how to be jealous? Was she really stupid?
Mamboa was also taken aback and suddenly asked, "Has anyone said anything similar to you?"
She couldn't understand him at all and continued to punch and kick, shouting, "I want to throw her! I want to throw her! Call her over here so I can throw her!"
Manberia's hair, face, and collar were all pulled and kicked to pieces. Her cousin, Little White Flower, and the maids tried to pull and persuade her, but because they dared not use too much force, they could not separate them.
Amidst the chaos, a tinkling sound rang out, and a beautiful elderly lady in a deep purple dress and a snow-white vest walked in, ringing an exquisite bell with a smile. In her other hand, she carried a delicate birdcage, where several red parrots were fluttering and hopping.
Martian, who was fooling around on the windowsill, suddenly stopped crying. Completely attracted by the silver bell and the birdcage, she jumped off the windowsill, rushed over, snatched the silver bell, and then the birdcage, shouting, "Mine, mine, all of them are mine!"
The old lady said playfully, "Alright, it's all yours, it's all yours."
Matian looked at her suspiciously, and when the old lady seemed to reach for the birdcage again, he immediately took off running, shouting, "Don't even think about taking it back! What's mine is mine!"
Several maids hurriedly chased after them, and Little White Flower Cousin glanced at us but still followed.
I was stunned by this old noblewoman. Her features were heavily made up, her eyebrows were sharp, and her eyes were full of charm. Her voice was familiar and seductive. Wasn't she the gorgeous old woman from the Southern Border?
I met her long ago when I first arrived in the Southern Territory, at that brothel that catered exclusively to women. She even personally chose me to be Princess Arnie's dowry.
"Ah, I remember you." She walked gracefully toward us. "If I hadn't chosen you as Yanni's dowry, you and Manberia would never have reunited, would they?"
Her last words were addressed to Mamboya, who smiled and said, "Indeed." He added, "You really have a way with things; you got Matian sorted out in no time."
"Your maids here are useless!" the elegant old lady scoffed. "Don't they know that coaxing her is like coaxing a child? Just give her something new and fun, wave it around a few times, and her attention will be drawn away."
Manberia said, "It's your things that are interesting. The maids used to try to coax me with things, but it didn't work."
The elegant old lady laughed and said, "That's true. My red parrots are especially expensive. I won them from playing cards with Yani a while ago."
Manberia smiled again and said, "You've come all this way, you must be tired now. Why don't you go to the side hall to rest for a while? Tell me what you'd like to eat, and the kitchen will prepare it for you in a bit."
"Oh my, it's been a while, and you're still as considerate as ever." The elegant old lady grabbed his arm and pulled him away from me—yes, pulled, or rather, snatched. She grinned and nuzzled her head against his shoulder, practically clinging to him. If she weren't so old, you could easily mistake her for a charming mistress.
Mamboy gestured to me, indicating that I should go back to my room and rest. I turned around and walked down the other side of the corridor...
——
After taking a bath, changing my clothes, and eating a bowl of plain porridge, I was about to read Beatrice's letter when Princess Yanni, wearing a bright red nightgown, pushed open the door and came in. She entered uninvited, without even knocking, and walked in as if it were her own home.
"Don't blame your maid, I insisted on coming in directly." She said with a smile as she walked in, and sat down on the mat opposite me.
I sat by the fireplace and slipped Beatrice's letter under my skirt, but she still saw it. She pursed her lips and said, "I've never met your stepdaughter, but I've heard she's a strange one. You're corresponding with her?"
“She’s someone I’m closer to now,” I replied.
Princess Yanni sneered, "If you don't change your gullible nature, you'll suffer a great loss in the future."
I chuckled lightly. "If I don't trust her, do I trust you? Didn't you leave before the Northern Frontier was about to descend into chaos? You didn't even warn me before you left. How can I trust you?"
Princess Yanni laughed. "Even if you don't believe me, it doesn't mean you can believe her."
Me: "Why didn't you warn me that danger was about to happen?"
Princess Yanni: "Would I dare? My stepmother is nearby. If I warn you, someone will immediately report to her, and she'll definitely make my life miserable. She'll scold me for meddling and potentially causing her trouble."
Me: "Are you afraid of her?"
Princess Yanni: "She holds all the power in the Southern Territory, how can I not be afraid?"
I didn't respond. She certainly had her reasons; weighing the pros and cons, choosing not to help me was her own choice. It's just that by doing this, it'll be difficult for her to remain my friend. Oh well, if we're not meant to be, there's nothing I can do.
I asked again, "Was the one who... lured Madame Mathilde away with you?"
