Chapter 190 He said this and then kissed my cheek…

After the deafening explosion, both Desen and I were injured. I had blast wounds and knife wounds, but I was far away from Shalin's daughter, and several maids were around me, which shielded me from some of the blast's blast, so my injuries weren't too serious. Desen, on the other hand, was in a much worse state. He was thrown into the air by the explosion, suffering blast wounds to his arms, waist, and legs, and even crashing into a stone pillar. He also suffered a head injury.

Abdul was the most severely injured. When Shaling's daughter lunged at him, if he hadn't reacted quickly and rolled to the side, he would have been blown to pieces like her, but he was also seriously injured. His entire body was mangled, covered in blood and gore, his legs were blown off, and half of his face was disfigured. The doctors were skeptical about his chances of survival.

After both Desen and I were able to get out of bed with some difficulty, Abdu remained in bed, needing to be taken care of for everything from eating and drinking to using the toilet. It is said that he wakes up at most twice a day.

Fortunately, he was rich and powerful. I sighed, otherwise, for an ordinary person, living would be worse than dying.

I am currently in a wheelchair because of a severe leg injury and a knife wound to my lower back, making it impossible for me to stand for long periods or walk much.

“I’ve discovered that you’re my nemesis,” I said to Bernard. “Whenever something happens involving you, it’s never a good thing. Either I get trapped in the Black Castle, or I’m framed by your mistress, or I get bombed.”

"I'm sorry, I'll be more careful in the future." He looked like a dutiful little wife, kneeling in front of my wheelchair to change the blood-stained gauze wrapped around my wound.

"What should I be careful about?" I turned my head away, not wanting to look at his face anymore.

He moved to face me again, chuckling as he changed my dressing, "Be careful, be more vigilant."

I ignored him.

His voice softened, “If I told you that your daughter would soon come to see you from the North to the East, would you be any happier?”

My daughter? I was shocked. "Is it true?"

I never dared to ask about my daughters, whether they were from the North or the Elven Realm. Because I felt I had let them down, and I didn't even dare to see them.

“It’s true, she’s over two years old now,” Bernard said softly with a smile. “She’ll be coming with her nanny. As for her father, he’s having a hard time dealing with the turmoil in the North.”

I had a pretty good idea. The situation in the North had changed, and it wasn't safe for my daughter to stay there. As soon as she heard I was back, Mamboa immediately sent her over.

"What's the situation in the North right now?" I asked.

"The monarch he put on the throne is now suspicious of him and is plotting with other ministers to remove him from the position of prime minister. His trusted aide was assassinated just three days ago, publicly stabbed by several ministers at a royal meeting."

"That situation is really bad," I sighed. Back in the day, Mamboa was a powerful figure in the North, and now his trusted confidant has been murdered in broad daylight. That shows just how dangerous the situation is.

“Tell me the current situation in the North, West, South, and Elven Realms,” I said, grasping Bernard’s hand.

Not wanting to disturb my recovery, Bernard frowned and spoke casually. The political situation in the North was unstable, with frequent civilian demonstrations protesting the Prime Minister's usurpation of power and the monarch's powerlessness. The powerful nobles were all restless. In the West, King Midian was troubled by the poor economy. The West had suffered from bad weather in recent years, with frequent natural disasters such as droughts and floods, leading to a continuous economic decline and hindering foreign trade. Queen Beatrice of the West's capital had recently been betrayed. Her confidants and the South had tricked her. A small gold mine had been discovered, but her confidants kept it a secret, selling the gold to the South at a low price. By the time Beatrice discovered this, most of the gold was gone, resulting in a heavy loss for her.

The Elven Realm is quite secluded, and intelligence is not easily obtained. Last year's information indicated that everything was stable, with a decent political and economic situation, and the Elven King had even conquered an island. Due to the Realm's unique location, situated somewhere in the ocean, conquering islands was a priority during expansion.

"Do you know how my daughter is doing in the secret realm?" I asked with difficulty. I felt guilty; I shouldn't have dared to ask.

“I heard everything is fine,” Bernard reassured me. “She’s the Elven King’s daughter, she won’t be doing badly, and she should be much safer than your daughter in the North.”

I'm relieved now, and I secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

Two weeks later, just as winter was beginning, my daughter from the North finally arrived in the East. I went to the port to greet her myself. A huge black ship approached from afar, slowly docking in the morning fog. I was so excited that my hands and feet trembled slightly.

Bernard pushed my wheelchair forward a couple more steps and said with a smile, "Your daughter's name is Asmin, you remember that."

"Asmin? Why is she so ordinary?" I said with some dissatisfaction.

"This is the name of Mamboa's deceased mother."

The sea breeze brushed past my eyes, and I was reminded of the story of Mamboa's father, mother, and Daisy. Even though so much time has passed, many images still surface in my mind when I think back.

My thoughts jump around, and suddenly I remembered the old Black Castle.

"If I hadn't woken you up back then, would you still be lying in that black tower?" I asked jokingly.

“That’s right, eyes tightly shut, waiting for my princess to come and save them,” Bernard replied softly.

Amidst laughter and conversation, the large black ship had already docked. The sailors swung the heavy iron chain over, and several burly men on the shore immediately caught it and secured it firmly to a stone pier.

A large number of armored guards rushed over and surrounded the area, making it completely impenetrable. Bernard and I were in the middle of the guards.

The horns sounded, and the honor guard appeared again—a welcoming ceremony specially arranged by Bernard for my princess. Musicians played, girls danced, waved ribbons, cheered, and laughed, welcoming the distinguished guest.

A long ladder descended from the ship, and a well-dressed middle-aged woman, leading a little girl in a snow-white tutu, and surrounded by several maids, slowly walked down the ladder.

When she was three steps away from me, the middle-aged woman and the little girl bowed together. Only then did I get a clear look at the little girl's face. She had regular features, delicate eyebrows and eyes, and round eyes that looked very much like mine. Only her fair skin and short, dark blue hair resembled her father.

The little girl was quiet, her eyes blinking as she looked at me curiously.

"Miss Asumi, why don't you call her Mother?" the middle-aged woman teased.

The little girl then spoke, "Mother."

I opened my arms, but the little girl hesitated. The middle-aged woman nudged her forward twice, and she finally threw herself into my arms. I hugged her tightly and burst into tears.

Two hours later, we returned to the palace. Asmin was already asleep, and Bernard carried her down from the carriage and directly to the room next to my bedroom.

Looking at her sleeping face, I couldn't bear to leave.

“She’ll probably stay here for a long time,” Bernard chuckled. “The situation in the North won’t stabilize anytime soon.”

I stroked her small face with my hand. "Even if the situation stabilizes, I hope she will still be by my side."

“I will help you negotiate with Mamboa.”

As he spoke, Bernard kissed my face, then my lips, the kiss growing more intense, his breath coming in ragged gasps. The kisses caused my wheelchair to back up, and then he suddenly stood up, picked me up, and carried me back to my room…
