Chapter 212 Chapter 212 He smiled at me, beautifully...

"I have better options than you." I said this and tried to walk forward again, but was stopped once more.

He said coldly, "Both the Grand Master of the North and the Elven King have wives. What's your better choice?"

“I am Prince Desen’s wife,” I said.

"Derson has a mistress."

"Whoever marries me as my legal wife is my better choice."

"That's just empty fame; you can get something more tangible."

He was trying to persuade me to become his mistress.

"That's enough. We've been going on for years, trying to decide whether I'm the wife or the mistress. I've shown you with my actions what I really want. I can live perfectly well without you. Maybe I'll have less money, but I'll be fine."

"What do you want to say?" His voice was unusually cold.

I raised my voice, "We broke up a long time ago. Why aren't you clear-headed, why don't you understand, why don't you get it? The day you asked me to break up, it was already over."

"You're just throwing a tantrum at me."

“You only see my desire for dignity, status, and respectability as a tantrum. You have never truly cared about my feelings. All you care about is your own dignity, your own interests, and your own needs. You are too selfish.”

He stared intently at me, and I stared back without fear.

He slowly said, "The relationships and marriages in our aristocratic circles are not as simple as you make them out to be. Marriage and feelings are not always the same thing. Marriage is an alliance of interests, while feelings are feelings, which is something else entirely."

I said coldly, "I'm not one of your people."

The rain outside was getting heavier, so I went back to my room, lay down on the bed, and closed my eyes. I only meant to take a nap, but I ended up sleeping until the afternoon.

I've been so tired lately. The fighting on the islands, taking care of the sick, and all the arguments and quarrels have left me physically and mentally exhausted.

When I woke up, the room was dimly lit, and Hero had already lit a candle. I stared at the exquisite and intricately patterned lampshade, lost in thought.

“Prince Bernard has left,” Helo said in a low voice. “He packed some things after lunch and left with his guards and attendants.”

"Did he say anything?" I was taken aback.

"No."

"No letter of severance or breakup?" I asked again.

"How is that possible?" Heloh chuckled.

"Why not?"

“How could he possibly break up with you?” Helo chuckled. “It’s just that things have been a bit tense between you these past few days, and he’s just trying to avoid the limelight.”

"How is that possible?" Now it's my turn to say that.

Hero didn't speak again, but instead instructed the maid outside the door to bring in dinner. "Please eat something first. It's easy to get sick in this weather. You need to eat well to stay healthy."

That evening, I received a secret letter from Derson—a bloodstained handkerchief and a sweat-stained towel. I tossed the towel aside and placed the yellowed paper on the handkerchief. After a short while, the map on the paper became clear again, and the lines became more numerous.

As expected, only by staining the chains with the blood of their owners—those who owned them made of gold, silver, copper, iron, tin, and lead—could a complete map possibly appear.

How could I get other people's blood? I fell into deep thought.

As dawn approached, I wrote a letter to Beatrice, essentially saying that I hadn't been in touch for a long time and missed her dearly, and asked if it would be possible to send her a handkerchief stained with her blood. I also mentioned that I had been kind to her and her mother, and that this handkerchief was a way of repaying that kindness.

“I don’t hold your past actions against me. I only ask that you repay me for saving my life. As for the purpose of this handkerchief, don’t worry, I won’t use it for anything bad. I guarantee it with my integrity.”

I gave the letter to Aya and asked her to mail it secretly in her name. Aya took the letter and hurried out.

What I didn't know was that half an hour later, the letter ended up in Bernard's hands.

Bernard held the letter, his brow furrowed.

"Your Highness, I heard that Prince Desen sent someone to deliver something to Lady Lana last night," the spy said cautiously.

"What did you give as a gift?"

"I don't know, but it should be related to the secret letter Lady Lanna wrote to him before. That letter was sent very quickly by Prince Desen's spies left in the capital, and we were unable to intercept it."

“Send this letter out,” Bernard tossed the letter into the agent’s hand. “Make sure it reaches Beatrice, and then see what she sends her.”

"yes."

The sweltering summer arrived, the bright sun blinding everyone, so I tried to stay indoors during the day. I didn't receive a reply from Beatrice, but I did receive a letter from Mambeya. He said the internal strife in the North was almost over, and he planned to come personally to take Asmin back, hoping to meet me then.

“Manboa also sent a letter of invitation to King Amur,” Hero said.

“He used me to win a good battle this time.” I threw the letter on the ground. “King Amur was also tricked by him. Will he agree to let him enter the country?”

“It has been agreed.” Hero picked up the letter and placed it on the table. “King Amur has always only cared about interests. Lord Manberia’s arrival may bring trade orders, so he will certainly welcome it.”

"Never mind," I said, putting on my coat. "I'm going to the palace to pick up Asmin now."

I was expelled from the palace, but Yasmin, as a distinguished guest, was still allowed to stay. I wanted to bring her out, but King Amur, citing safety concerns, refused, only allowing me to bring her over for a few days every now and then.

But as soon as I opened the door, it was pushed open, and a blast of hot air hit me. Benoit, wearing a thin black silk cloak, stood in the doorway, holding little Asmin's hand. Behind them followed a group of guards, several maids, and a nanny.

“Her father is about to take her back to her country,” Bernard said with a smile, “so I’ll just take her out of the palace and let her spend a few more days with you.”

I hugged little Asmin tightly, ignoring Bernard.

Little Yasmin called out "Mother" sweetly, and I gave her a big kiss on her little face.

I picked her up and carried her inside, only to find large bags and packages of luggage following her in. "Are all of these Asumi's things?" I wondered.

“And mine too,” Bernard said obediently.

"Her can come in, but yours, take it out!" I instinctively stopped them.

"Don't be like that," Bernard put on a pitiful look and even "pleaded" with little Asmin, "What did you promise your uncle? Didn't you say you would live and play with your uncle?"

“You…” I said angrily, “Don’t corrupt the children.”

“I want to live with my uncle,” little Asmin said, kicking her little legs in my arms. “Mother, I want to live with my uncle.”

“It’s inconvenient for us to live with him,” I tried my best to explain to her.

But little Yasmin wouldn't give up, crying and making a fuss, "I don't want to, I don't want to, I want to live with my uncle."

"no."

"I want it! I absolutely want it!"

Little Yasmin was crying and kicking her legs, and I was at a loss for what to do.

Bernard smiled and took Yasmin from my arms, carrying her into the house. "Okay, little darling, Uncle will play with you."

"Yay!" Little Asmin immediately turned from sorrow to joy and cheered.

Seeing how happy and excited Xiaoyas was, I couldn't bring myself to rush her any further.

I still stopped the guards from bringing in Bernard's luggage. Bernard laughed in the hall, "It doesn't matter. I only took a small part of my things last time. Most of my clothes and belongings are still with you."

My face turned ashen; he had probably planned this all along.

I finally understand what it means to be a fierce woman who can't resist a persistent suitor.

At night, Xiao Yasi went to bed early. Perhaps because she was tired from playing during the day, she slept very soundly at night.

I gently fanned little Asmin, while Bernard sat nestled against me, refusing to leave no matter how much I tried to shoo him away.

“Let’s have a daughter too,” Bernard whispered gently in my ear.

“Go have a baby with your wife,” I said coldly.

"I want to have a child with you."

Afraid of waking little Asmin, I got up and left, and he followed closely behind.

“Listen to me, I’m not one of your insiders,” I said as I walked. “Don’t try to convince me with your insider talk.”

"I don't care if you're in the industry or not, as long as I like you, that's all that matters." He suddenly hugged my waist from behind and nuzzled my face. "All I need is for you not to leave me."

"Hey, let go of me! Have you no shame?"

"Shameless," he said with a straight face.

I stomped on his foot hard, but he didn't cry out or yell. Instead, he hugged me tighter and said without batting an eye, "If you had any shame, how could you possibly win a woman's heart?!"

"Just be a little more shameless!"

"I'm only thick-skinned with you; I'm thinner than paper with everyone else."

I was furious and kicked and punched him even harder. He suddenly picked me up around the waist. I gasped, and he laughed, "I just love seeing you panic."

Are you crazy?!

He carried me back to the room and put me on the bed. I had originally planned that if he tried to assault me, I would threaten to kill myself, but to my surprise, he drew the bed curtains for me and left laughing.

He's smart to be sensible!

A week later, Mamboa arrived in the Eastern Territory. I was extremely surprised; I hadn't expected it to be so fast. When Hero rushed into the living room to tell me, I was stunned for several seconds.

"A welcome banquet will be held at the palace tonight, and King Amur cordially invites you to attend." Hero produced the invitation he had just received.

I flipped open the invitation and looked at my name on it. "How long does he plan to stay?"

"I don't know."

On the day of the royal banquet, I dressed early, put on my few pieces of jewelry, and arrived at the palace before dark. The banquet hall was brightly lit and sparkling, and the nobles who had arrived early were already drinking and laughing loudly.

I was led to a mat beneath the throne, where a low table was set out, covered with a deep red tablecloth, upon which lay fine wine, fruit, and roasted meat.

I had barely sat down when Bernard appeared. I suspect he knew I was coming, so he rushed over as well.

As soon as he walked in, he smiled at me, a smile that was radiantly beautiful.
