Chapter 255 "I sincerely hope you can..."
The room was in chaos as the royal physician and his female attendants rushed in. After several hours of work, the royal physician wiped the sweat from his brow and said to the Elf King, who had been keeping watch by the bedside, "The child is saved, but Your Majesty, please do not let your wife overwork herself in the future; it would be best if she did not overwork herself."
The implication was that the Elf King did not want to share a room with me.
"The lady's health was already somewhat weak, and she had just given birth to twins. She hasn't fully recovered yet, and now she's pregnant again. The risks are quite high," the royal physician quickly explained, noticing the Elf King's pale face.
The Elf King gestured for him to leave with his eyes, then gently but firmly embraced me.
From that day on, he never slept with me again until I gave birth.
I went into labor in the early morning and gave birth to a beautiful baby boy in the afternoon.
The entire palace is in celebration!
Only then did I realize that this was the Elf King's first son, and that he was still alive.
He had sons before, but they all died young, some from illness, others from accidents. None of them lived past the age of five.
This son, who knows how long he will live. But at least for now, he is alive.
He looks a lot like the Elf King, and he also looks like me. His hair, skin color, and eyes are like the Elf King's, but his face shape, eyebrows, and expression are like mine.
His full moon celebration was far more grand than his twin sister's, with food and wine of a higher grade, all the high-ranking nobles in attendance, and the celebration lasting four days and four nights. Normally, full moon celebrations last no more than three days.
Anleya was especially excited. She had come to see him often since he was born and kept circling around him.
"Mother, I will definitely protect him and make sure he grows up safely."
However, she was not so excited when her two younger sisters were born.
She especially loved her younger brother, hugging him, kissing him, talking to him, and playing with him.
I was putting my two baby girls to sleep when I frowned slightly. "Anleya, can't you even look at your little sisters?"
She pursed her lips and said, "What's so interesting about my sister? I have several sisters."
She was referring to the other illegitimate daughters and a daughter born to the queen.
Imera also gave birth to a daughter after her miscarriage.
"Mother, I love my little brother." She kissed the baby boy's forehead and said, "Thank you for giving birth to a little brother. I finally have someone to rely on."
I was stunned. Rely on? Isn't it our parents we rely on?
I later learned that in the Elf Realm, or rather, across the entire continent, girls with brothers have much more confidence in life, including in marriage, than girls without brothers.
Because the inheritance of power, titles, and property is primarily considered for boys.
I slowly calmed down and said slowly, "Don't be like Princess Marcy, who overprotects her younger brother."
Princess Masi is the old princess.
An Leya frowned. "Who is like her? Mother, you really shouldn't compare her to me. She's almost a monster."
"What's wrong with her?" I asked.
"You should ask your father if you talk more and it will strengthen your relationship. Maybe he can give me another younger brother."
I was speechless. An Leya was much more mature than the average girl, and I couldn't find a way to respond.
"What happened to Princess Marcy?" I couldn't help but ask the Elf King at midnight, unable to suppress my curiosity.
Why are you suddenly asking about her?
"Yeah, it just came to mind."
The Elf King smiled slightly, "Don't worry about these things, just take good care of your health."
I went through a lot of labor giving birth to my son, and I suffered a brief period of severe bleeding. I haven't fully recovered yet. Even the Elf King dared not share a room with me; we only slept in the same bed.
"Can I know how the Great City is doing now?" I changed the subject again.
“No,” the Elf King refused me outright. “I don’t want you thinking about that.”
I felt a little dejected. The Elf King said softly, "I truly hope you can always be by my side. Will you be my queen? Will you marry me?"
I exclaimed in surprise, "Your Highness?!"
"Yes, I also have one concubine position available, second only to the Queen in status. I think you would like it."
I looked at him suspiciously. I knew that even the position of a concubine wasn't so easy to obtain.
“Oh, you are willing? Your subjects are willing? Your nobles are willing?” I asked.
He laughed loudly, "You've already given birth to four children for me, how could they not want them?"
I rolled over and muttered, "I'm already married."
Although this is nothing in the eyes of the Elf King, I still can't help but say it.
Early in the morning, the Elf King had already left, and I sat alone on the carpet in front of the French windows. The windows were all open, and a gentle morning breeze kept blowing in.
There seemed to be no one around, but I knew there were dozens of eyes watching me.
Just kidding, the superpowered girl ran away in the blink of an eye, how could no one be watching her?
I fiddled with the candle on the candlestick, poking at the wick, watching the wax melt little by little and drip into the candlestick.
I've been playing this because I'm bored.
After a while, the faint sound of a baby crying came from the other side of the door.
My children woke up. I put on a thin robe and got up to go see them.
This has been the case every morning lately. They live in the luxurious room across the street, with five maids, four nannies, and a female healer on standby at all times.
After lunch—a meat sandwich, a bowl of pigeon soup, a vegetable and fruit salad, and an apple—I took a short nap and then, as usual, pushed the stroller for a walk in the courtyard.
I pushed my twin daughters' stroller, Bai Ni pushed my youngest son's stroller, Ethan and a few guards followed at a distance, and the nanny and maids followed closely.
The weather has been lovely lately, and some unnamed flowers have bloomed outside the palace. I couldn't resist pushing the stroller outside, but I couldn't go very far. After only a short distance, the head guard stopped me, and I had to reluctantly turn back.
“It’s going to snow soon,” Bai Ni suddenly said. “The palace will hold its year-end celebration.”
"The year is almost over," I remarked.
I've actually been in the Secret Realm for almost two years.
Two months later, the grand year-end ball was held. I stood behind the Elf King, who was dressed in a golden robe, and watched him raise his golden scepter, proclaiming that it was another year of abundant harvest, that the kingdom was prosperous and powerful, that the people lived in peace and contentment, and that the Elf race would continue to thrive and multiply.
The nobles cheered and jumped for joy, and the ceiling of the huge banquet hall was almost blown off.
The elven king and queen, dressed in their finest attire, walked ahead, while I, in a shimmering pearl pink and white dress, obediently followed behind. Behind me were four children: Anleia wore a magnificent snow-white gown, the hem of which trailed more than half a meter on the ground; twin baby girls and her youngest son were held in the arms of nannies in elegant gowns.
Behind them were the Elf King's concubines and mistresses; behind the concubines and mistresses were noblewomen who had long-term relationships with the Elf King but whose status as mistresses was not clearly defined; behind them were several illegitimate daughters.
The Queen's daughter was supposed to come too, but she caught a cold and had to stay in her room to recover.
As we sat down, the Elf King slightly raised his golden scepter, holy music began, the ball officially started, and the banquet hall became lively.
I stared blankly at the golden scepter. Once upon a time, I too had a golden scepter.
The first dance was led by the Elf King and Queen. After a while, the nobles entered the dance floor one after another, their magnificent robes gleaming under the enormous chandeliers.
Suddenly, the daughter of the Houns family walked up to me; she was the same girl that Imera had introduced to me last time.
She wore a luxurious beige long dress, with brown curly hair cascading over her shoulders, and her eyes sparkled with intelligence.
She held up a jade-green wine jug. "Madam Lanna, this wine is made with the finest rice. We can only make a maximum of 100 jin a year. Please have a taste."
The clear, white liquor was poured into my glass. I took a small sip and said, "Hmm, it's really good."
She looked at me with a smile, "Would you like another drink? But two at most, otherwise you'll get drunk."
After I finished this glass, I drank another one.
From the small pouch sewn with gold thread, I took out an embroidered portrait. "Since I've drunk your food, I feel bad taking your things again. I'll just return them to their rightful owner."
She looked at the embroidered portrait in surprise. "Is this my maternal aunt? I heard that this portrait was given to a distinguished person. So it was you."
The important person should be Imera, but I didn't say anything. Instead, I smiled and handed it to her, saying, "Take it."
Out of the corner of his eye, he vaguely saw Imera's expression change slightly.
My every move attracted attention, and the men and women in the vicinity all secretly watched me.
I have no privacy here.
Whether in a private palace or at a royal ball.
"Do you know this aunt?" I asked.
“I know a little,” she said with a smile. “She was very, very beautiful and very intelligent, so the throne eventually fell to her.”
I jokingly asked, "Is she prettier or is the Elf King prettier?"
“This…” she stammered, “They’re all beautiful.”
"Keep it safe." I looked longingly at the embroidered portrait in her palm. "I like your husband..."
Before I could even utter the word "aunt," a trickle of bright red blood suddenly spilled from the corner of my mouth, and blood also began to flow from my nose. Everyone gasped in surprise, and Bai Ni quickly pressed a clean white handkerchief against my nose. In just a few seconds, the handkerchief was completely stained red.
The crowd gasped again as my three babies suddenly began to cry. Anrea was terrified, and a noblewoman held her tightly, preventing her from getting any closer.
Before I collapsed, spitting blood, I saw the Elf King rushing towards me...
——
Using feigned death to escape is a terrible move.
The Elf King simply didn't believe I was dead. He placed me on a bed in his palace room and assigned a large number of guards to protect me.
I cannot open my eyes, move, or breathe, but I can clearly hear the sounds from the outside world.
The Houns' daughter and Imella were all imprisoned, no matter how much they protested their innocence.
Several wealthy women who were closest to me were also imprisoned, no matter how innocent they cried.
The Elf King also placed three cribs next to my bed, "They will disturb you every day to see if you will wake up."
The three babies took turns crying. The twins were a little better; being older, they didn't cry for as long and would play with their toys after a while. The youngest son, however, cried incessantly, which tugged at my heartstrings, but I couldn't move.
The nannies only appeared when the youngest son was crying so hard he couldn't breathe.
That's just too cruel!
But I can't protest.
