Chapter 264 "Let's have a child too."...

“You’re different now.” I conceded another step.

He went a step further, “So, this time you have the upper hand. You, young, are a perfect match for me, the older one, you have all the advantages.”

I couldn't help but laugh. "Why does it have to be you? Where can't I find someone younger?"

He laughed too, "You won't find it."

"How is that possible?" My scoff turned into a cold laugh.

“Even if we find it, it will only be a young corpse,” he smiled.

I was about to retort with a cold laugh when he slightly raised his hand, and the elderly maid immediately draped a magnificent white robe over his shoulders. He fastened the gold buttons and said, "Do you remember her?" He was referring to the elderly maid. "Lady Jane, she served me in the Wildlands. After I left, she became the mistress of the new lord of the Wildlands. The lord died, and she lived a lonely life for many years without children. One day, I suddenly remembered her and summoned her to the palace."

It was her! No wonder she looked so familiar. We hadn't seen each other for so many years, of course I hadn't recognized her.

Lady Jane then placed a golden crown on his head, and he fastened the golden buttons. “Ten out of the ten maids who serve me are trying to seduce me. I’m fed up with it and just want to find one who knows the rules.”

He suddenly gripped my hand tightly. “Come on, I’ll take you to see my private vault.”

He practically dragged me forward, giving me no chance to resist. "I'm not going. Why would I want to look at your private vault?"

“Maybe after you see this you won’t want to leave me,” he said gently, pulling me firmly along. “No woman can resist being moved.”

I was truly stunned when the gleaming mountain of gold coins appeared before my eyes.

I have seen several of the Elf King's treasure troves, but I have never seen such a large and tall "golden mountain".

Countless gold, silver, jewels, gems, silks, satins, and rare treasures illuminated the treasury as bright as day.

“I told you you’d love it,” Bernard said, smiling at me.

I came to my senses and thought, "What does this have to do with me?"

Bernard took my hand and placed a heavy gold key in my palm. "How about I leave it to you for safekeeping? I won't really investigate if anything goes missing from inside."

I laughed and pushed the key to him, saying, "You keep it yourself; I can't afford to take responsibility for it."

He still smiled, "You don't need it, but your daughter does. Your daughter recaptured the capital of the Western Territory, and you were involved in that, weren't you? You don't think that everything is fine once the recapture is successful, do you? There's a lot more to it than that. In fact, you should thank me. Without my private army, your daughter wouldn't have won. But I can't help her forever. The one who can truly help her is you."

"What does this mean?" There's so much information in this.

“Your daughter came to me on the eve of the great battle.” He leaned closer and whispered, “She went through great lengths to see me, crying and begging me to help her. I agreed for your sake. I didn’t want to be enemies with the Western Frontier, but she is your daughter, and she had nowhere else to turn. I couldn’t refuse to help her.”

“Of course, she’s smart,” he said, his voice rising again. “She knows to come to me for help, she knows that my feelings for you are the deepest, and I won’t stand idly by.”

"How is she now?" I asked anxiously.

“With my help, how could she not succeed? She’ll never succeed with her good-for-nothing son and daughter.” He smiled at me.

“But don’t think about going to rely on her,” he added. “She has a lot of troubles already, why would you add to her troubles? You might as well get some money from me, as much as you can, to help her out.”

I chuckled. "Are you crazy? According to you, even if I were to be with you, it would only be for your money. You'd be willing to be with a woman who only cares about your money?"

“As long as it’s you, I’m willing. I’m even afraid that you don’t love money, so I won’t be able to keep you.” He suddenly hugged my waist. “Just say yes and stay by my side.”

He whispered gently in my left ear, "Let's have a child too, whether it's a boy or a girl, I'll love it."

Just as I was about to curse again, a piercing alarm clock suddenly rang in my right ear, ring! Ring! Ring!

I suddenly woke up in bed with a start.

I was covered in sweat, just like the previous times.

I got up and took a long shower before my mood calmed down.

He then continued his peaceful life.

Another year passed. I never dreamed of that other world again, never dreamed of him, never dreamed of anyone else.

Seeing Bernard the last time I saw him, now older, was quite a shock. I have to admit, I felt more connected to him when he was younger. He's grown old, and although he's still him, the feeling he evokes seems to have changed.

Perhaps this is common sense; it's difficult for a young person to develop any life-or-death feelings for an older person.

“Why do you have to be with me?” I muttered to myself as I made myself coffee. “As a king, you have plenty of young girls vying for your bed. Why do you have to cling to me and pay such a high price?”

He was going to hand me the key to his private vault, and he even said that I could take whatever I wanted, and he wouldn't care.

I laughed, sat down at my desk, and after a year, finally wrote down this dream.

"I can't quite describe my feelings for Bernard. It's like I have feelings for him, but it's also like I don't. He's not the same person he used to be, and neither am I. Perhaps, the best ending would be for us to each live our own lives well."

That night, miraculously, I dreamed of them again.

Without firsthand experience, this is from the perspective of an observer.

The elderly Benoit and his elderly queen sat together on the high throne, receiving the homage of their subjects and nobles. It seemed to be an important celebration; the people were dressed in their finest attire and beamed with pride. A group of elegantly dressed children appeared, first bowing respectfully, then running and laughing to the queen's throne, embracing and kissing her.

Are they their grandchildren or great-grandchildren? I'm not sure.

The elderly queen smiled contentedly as she played with them. Her face was covered in wrinkles, but one could still see that she was once the proud and aloof Princess Nora.

The elderly Bernard still had a serious expression. The children dared not approach him, but secretly looked at him with admiration and awe. Two older children mustered up their courage to offer him a toast, which he actually accepted, and the children smiled with joy.

Bernard got the best ending for him. From a down-on-his-luck prince to the high and mighty King of the East, he held great power and wealth in his later years, surrounded by his children and grandchildren, and perhaps even young and beautiful mistresses. He seemed to have everything a man could dream of.

Suddenly the scene shifted, and I found myself in the Elf Realm.

The Elf King seemed to be doing well, although he occasionally clashed with King Daio. Daio's strength had grown, giving him enough power to launch a counterattack. Daio had gained the support of some of the old noble families, and many of them advised the Elf King, "Now that you have already obtained the throne of the Secret Realm, why bother fighting with Daio for this and that?"

Yes, the reason why the Elf King and Daio frequently went to war was that their seas were adjacent, and they would fight to the death for the development of new trade routes.

The Elf King had few children; all of the Queen's children had died, and only a few of the concubines' children had survived. Imera's only daughter had also died, and she was not doing well, living a life of humiliation amidst her many young and beautiful concubines and mistresses.

I looked at the aged Elf King, whose soft golden hair had turned white, falling on his wrinkled but still exquisite features, giving him a breathtaking kingly beauty, his sharpness undiminished.

His golden fingernails still reflect sunlight, revealing a bewitching and eerie beauty.

As I was observing the Elf King, I didn't notice a woman dressed as a slave girl slowly approaching me. She stared at me and suddenly spoke, startling me. "I have never harmed you, yet the king has pinned the blame for harming you on me. I was demoted from a noble lady of the Houinse family to a slave girl, and I am still a slave girl. You must compensate me, make up for everything I have lost."

I wanted to say, "It was the king who demoted you, why don't you go and find the king?" But I found that I couldn't speak, I couldn't open my mouth.

Seeing that I didn't speak, she got even angrier, picked up the broom in her hand and was about to hit me. I turned around and ran away, and she chased after me.
