Chapter 63 My Goddess "Why did I miss you? My goddess..."
After a day of revelry, all the princes, including Prince Hyja, were seized by fierce guards and imprisoned in iron cages; all the princesses were held down by their maids, their tops torn off, and a group of craftsmen used sharp knives to carve words on their smooth backs…
The iron cage was shaken violently by the princes, who shouted hoarsely, "Midaan, you've gone too far!"
"We've already given you so much jewelry!"
Prince Hya cursed wildly: "Fuck your mother, Midaan!"
The princesses struggled desperately and cried out in pain, "Brother, Crown Prince, please let us go!"
“I have given you all my treasures.”
Prince Midian, dressed in a magnificent white robe, had eyes and an expression as cold as ice.
I finally understand why the princes and princesses had fawned over the crown prince before—they knew this day would come—the crown prince held their fates in his hands. The reason the crown prince was more popular than the king and queen was because once the king died, the crown prince would control the court, while the queen would have no real power. Perhaps the crown prince had already gained real power much earlier, which is why the king could tolerate his greater popularity.
At this moment, all the nobles of our country, the foreign envoys, Princess Yani, and I all stood bowed outside the palace. Inside, blood had flowed like a river.
A large group of extremely fierce guards escorted three seemingly venerable old nobles, with several guards carrying different trays in their hands.
Midian stretched out his arms, and the old nobles took the golden crown, golden scepter, and crimson velvet shawl from the tray and respectfully dressed Midian in them.
"Gentlemen," after dressing, Midian stood at the highest point in the hall, holding a golden scepter, "today I will officially take over the Westerlands and become the King of the Westerlands."
The cheers and applause drowned out the prince and princess's cries.
“According to ancestral precepts, in order to ensure the stability of the Western Territory,” Midan’s voice was extremely powerful, “all princes must go to the remote places of the Western Territory to guard the spirits of the ancestors of the Western Territory, and never return for the rest of their lives. All unmarried and childless princesses must be expelled from the Western Territory, with the words ‘Western Territory Slave’ tattooed on their backs, and be slaves for life.”
So this is why the princes and princesses tried so hard to please and flatter the crown prince, but what was bound to happen still happened.
The mouths of the prince in the iron cage and the princess whose name was being carved were both covered, and they wept silently.
I suddenly remembered my terrifying experience at the Black Castle and trembled with fear.
Midian looked at the envoys bowing outside and gave a strange smile. "Gentlemen, you may take whichever one you like home."
The envoys' eyes suddenly lit up, and they rushed toward the princesses whose backs were tattooed. Amid screams, cries, and curses of fear, they picked them up, carried them, and dragged them away. Some even dragged one of them into the bushes in the courtyard and took their place...
“Some of them will become playthings, some will be sold, and some will be tortured to death.” Princess Yani chuckled. “The unluckiest princesses will be eaten by people with special tastes. It is said that the flesh of the princesses of the Western Frontier is the most tender and beautiful.”
"And the luckiest?" I asked, my voice trembling.
"The luckiest? Of course, it's being a mistress."
After all the princesses were robbed, the iron cages were all dragged out. When the cage containing Prince Hyja was pulled out, I whispered to Princess Yanni, "Will you save him?"
Princess Yanni looked at me mockingly, "What do you think? He was originally planning to kill me."
As Prince Hya was dragged out along with his iron cage, he passed by Princess Yani, but the two did not even look at each other.
Two hours later, a banquet celebrating the Crown Prince's ascension to the throne was held in the courtyard. The lively music, fragrant food, intoxicating wine, dancing beauties, and waves of laughter made it seem as if the bloody tragedy had never happened.
The newly enthroned King Midian sat on the throne, drinking with Prince Manboa, who had disappeared for several hours. The two chatted and laughed, surrounded by several beautiful women.
The women's long, curly hair and contorted bodies made it impossible to see the two people sitting in the main seat.
"Ugh, how boring. I'm a widow again after only ten days of marriage," Princess Yanni said irritably as she sat on the carpet drinking her wine.
I lowered my head slightly, unable to speak.
Princess Yanni looked at me and laughed, "Scared already?"
She handed me a glass of black wine. "This is quite strong; it'll calm you down."
I didn't want to drink it, but I accepted it anyway—I had to give face to the person in charge.
I took a small sip of the black wine.
“By the way, I heard,” she said, her tone turning teasing, “that you used to be Bernard’s chief mistress? Do you want to see him again? He has a new chief mistress now, a tycoon’s illegitimate daughter who became a wealthy widow after her husband died and was taken in by Bernard.”
“I’ll go with you,” I said. “I don’t trust men.”
I'm telling the truth, I don't trust a single man here. Mamboy is a fraud, and Bernot makes a living through bloodshed and has a messy personal life.
The next day, a torrential downpour draped the palace inside and out. The rain poured down from the courtyard, cascading into the fountains and narrow ditches. I held my umbrella and respectfully patted it on Princess Yanni's head as she strolled along.
Behind me were dozens of maids and servants dragging suitcases of various sizes. The last suitcase was the largest, and it was being pulled by two tall servants.
Prince Hya has been sent to guard the mausoleum; there is no point in us staying here any longer.
Passing through the rain-shrouded courtyard, we arrived at the side gate of the palace. A large number of guards and dozens of carriages were waiting. Mamboya stood smiling in front of a black carriage, without a raincoat or umbrella, wearing only a plain black hooded long coat.
A wide-brimmed hood covered half of his face, with a few strands of long, silver-blue hair peeking out from the brim, raindrops constantly falling from his hair.
When I saw him, I was taken aback.
What is he doing here? And the heavy rain is hitting him like it's hitting cotton, but he is smiling happily, not caring at all that he is soaked to the bone.
“Let’s go to the North first.” Princess Yanni led me toward Mamboa. “I have important business to attend to.”
I followed with an umbrella, very respectfully.
He didn't look at Manberia again.
Princess Yanni and Mamboa rode in one carriage, while I and several maids rode in the one behind.
Before we set off, a group of palace guards checked all the luggage and carriages, and only allowed us to leave after confirming that there was nothing amiss.
Upon reaching the border, we boarded a small train. The train rumbled and sped forward, and I and several maids quickly changed into clean clothes in the simple carriage.
Princess Yanni is now living with Mamboa and is being served by Mamboa's maids. We were asked to stay in the outer carriage.
The scenery in front of the train window rushed past, and the train was moving very fast.
It got dark quickly. Unlike modern times, there are no roads or streetlights here. It was pitch black all around. Of course, even when a modern train passes through uninhabited fields, farmland, or mountain roads, it is still pitch black.
The train rumbled on, and all the maids in the same carriage were asleep. I sat alone by the dark window.
Conspiracy, bloodshed, murder...
Recalling everything that happened, I feel a chill run down my spine, and also a kind of indescribable sense of loss.
Rain suddenly started falling from the night sky. The car window wasn't closed properly, and the wind and rain leaked in. I got up to close the window when, with a bang, a hand suddenly appeared and slammed it shut.
I tried to scream, but this hand covered my mouth again, and I was taken to another private room.
Upon seeing his face clearly, my expression changed slightly. "It's you?"
Manberia's amber eyes looked like pale gold in the candlelight, and her long silver-blue hair seemed to be plated with a layer of light gold.
"I heard from Yanni that you've agreed to be her mistress?" he asked bluntly.
"Yes, I'm willing to go with her."
But I didn’t say at the time whether I was Princess Yanni’s mistress or her maid, and she didn’t ask. But later she told Manboa that I was her mistress.
She has her reasons for saying that, and I won't contradict her, nor do I want to lie. I'll just give a vague answer.
"Why don't you want to be my mistress?" His long, silvery-blue eyelashes fluttered slightly like butterfly wings.
"I don't trust men."
"But a man who is interested in you is far more reliable than a woman who sees you as a tool."
To be honest, I think being a tool is more reliable than relying on a man's interests. At least it's mutually beneficial and won't be easily abandoned, while a man's interests can disappear at any time.
"Is this all you came to ask me?" I said. "I can answer you very clearly: I love Princess Yanni, and I want to be with her."
The night rain grew heavier, and the sound of it hitting the car windows grew louder.
"Do you know why I saved you from the collapsing Black Tower back then?" he suddenly asked me.
"Why?"
"Your timid yet feigned bravery reminds me so much of a strange older sister I met at my mother's castle years ago. And then I see the mole on the back of your neck, and I know it's you. I said I would take care of you, and I will..."
He suddenly slammed me hard onto the table. "So, why should I miss you? My goddess."
