Chapter 67 Hello, sometimes a prince really is a man seducing a woman...
Time passed, and almost a month had gone by. I didn't know what Princess Yanni's purpose was in coming to the North. Even if her husband was imprisoned, she could still go back to her parents' home, but Princess Yanni seemed to have forgotten about having a family.
She was completely immersed in life there. Her days and nights were reversed; she would bathe and sleep during the day, attend dances at night, and often drink until she vomited before returning to her room.
She wanted me to bathe with her, grabbed my arm, and said with a grin, "Come on, have another drink with me."
"You're drunk," I said helplessly, and together with several maids, we hurriedly helped her into the bath.
She sang while splashing water, and would sometimes burst into laughter, sometimes laughing so hard it looked like she was crying.
"Lana, do you know that I've been like a bird with a broken wing all my life, never able to fly?"
"Lana, I hate men, I despise men."
Whenever this happened, I would quickly send the other maids away and sit by the pool, patiently wiping her back. "Everything will pass."
She laughed, her eyes glazed with drunkenness, “What will pass? After leaving the land of death, I thought my nightmare was over, but it turned out to be the beginning of another nightmare.”
I comforted her, saying, "Nightmares always pass, and people always wake up eventually."
She stopped smiling, her eyes widening in anger. "You don't understand, you don't understand at all."
“Okay, okay, I don’t understand,” I said softly.
She laughed again, laughing so hard that tears streamed down her face. "Sometimes I think, it's so nice to be as silly as you, knowing nothing."
I pursed my lips and said nothing more.
She started singing again, but her words were out of tune, and she fell asleep while singing. I then summoned the maids, and together we helped her back to her bedroom.
It was already bright outside, and I was sleepy. After a quick shower, I changed into my pajamas and lay down on the thickly made-up floor mat.
Just like when I was lying on the floor in Bernard's room, I was very tired but couldn't fall asleep.
With a strange intuition, I felt that beneath the many balls in the North lay hidden dangers, just like in the Westerlands, where nightly revelry concealed slaughter and bloodshed.
Unable to sleep, I sat up halfway.
Suddenly I remembered the room and fireplace I had seen in the illusion, and I was sure they were in the North.
Because everything seen through the "fireplace" was so similar to Mamboa's life story.
I quietly got up and slipped out of the room.
The bright sunlight shone on the cold, blue bricks as I brushed past groups of maids. No one noticed me.
I arrived at the garden quickly. As soon as I stepped into a rose bush, an arm pulled me over. "What are you doing here?" The voice sounded familiar.
"It's you!" I was taken aback. It was the brothel girl who had threatened me before, now working as Princess Yanni's maid.
"I'm going to take these to the laundry room." She was carrying a package of clothes in her left hand.
"It's been a long time," I said.
“I see you quite often,” she said, “but you don’t notice me.”
In short, because she was a handyman, she was often mixed in with inconspicuous people.
"You're doing so well now," she said with a hint of envy, "people are fighting over you to be their mistress. When are you going to give me a promotion too?"
She spoke much more politely than before, perhaps because she knew she could no longer threaten me. My true identity was now semi-public; even Mamboa's chief mistress called me "Sister Lana."
The powerful figures I know never seem to have considered hiding my identity, such as Princess Yanni, Mamboa, and Bernot.
I said, "I can barely take care of myself, how can I promote you?"
She laughed, “It would have helped me if you had just introduced me to Prince Mamboa or Prince Bernot.”
I was stunned by her shamelessness, but she remained calm and said, "Sleeping with a prince is my dream."
I laughed too, "I've never even slept with a prince, how can I help you?"
Now it was her turn to stare at me in astonishment. "Impossible, absolutely impossible."
I smiled and didn't discuss the topic further. Instead, I asked her where the former countess, who was also Prince Mamboa's mother, had her room. She was well-informed and quickly pointed me in the right direction.
Fifteen minutes later, I stood before a tall, white, ornately carved gate.
Just as I was wondering whether to push the door open, it suddenly opened, and two or three maids carrying buckets, rags and other cleaning supplies were about to come out. They were surprised to see me.
I said, "Can I just look from the doorway? I'm not going in."
I just want to see if there really is this fireplace inside.
The maids hesitated, their eyes seemingly about to refuse, when a loud, unrestrained laugh suddenly came from afar.
I was startled to see Manberia, draped in a white fox fur cloak, striding towards me.
"Aren't you cold?" Mamboya asked with a smile, draping his cloak over me, who was only wearing a long dress. "Go in if you want."
I instinctively tried to return the cloak to him, but he pressed it down forcefully.
The maids quickly withdrew.
I couldn't be bothered to refuse Manberia's cloak any longer, so I quickly went into the room.
"What do you want to do here?" he asked.
"I was just curious, I just came to take a look," I said.
I immediately noticed an elegant and luxurious gray fireplace on the side of the four-poster bed.
I walked up to the fireplace and squatted down.
"What are you doing?" Mamboa asked curiously, squatting down beside me.
"Don't keep asking me what I'm doing," I said. Clearly, he had people around me, and he knew exactly what I was doing.
"Just out of curiosity, I just came to take a look." His purple eyes gleamed with an unusual light.
He actually mimicked my speech, which made me both laugh and cry.
“Okay,” I said, “you see, but don’t bother me.”
He flashed a seductive smile, "Whatever you say goes."
