Chapter 82 His golden eyes under the moonlight were like…

Thank you for thinking so highly of me, but I have no choice but to keep searching.

After searching for a long time, I still found nothing. I sat down opposite him to rest, and he squinted his eyes again, seemingly asleep.

After a while, he suddenly opened his eyes and asked, "How did you know that there was a secret passage behind that shape of white smoke?"

I told him the story of my blood.

“Try again, cut your hand open,” he said.

Picking up a beautiful gemstone brooch at my feet, I pricked my index finger, and blood gushed out. He then said, "Drip it on anything here."

I raised my index finger and dripped it directly onto the gemstone brooch.

Blood dripped down the pin again, and the moment it hit the ground, it formed a strange pattern.

I held my breath, and he held his breath too.

The blood was still flowing, and the pattern was changing—it was a strange pattern that was hard to discern in shape.

It doesn't resemble a circle, square, rhombus, parallelogram... it doesn't look like any of them.

He kept staring at the patterns while glancing around from time to time; I looked around a few times but couldn't find anything similar to these patterns. Soon I got sleepy and took a nap against the jewelry box.

When he woke up, he was still staring at the pattern of dried blood droplets, looking extremely frustrated.

It seems nothing has been discovered yet.

I'm a little hungry. My stomach isn't growling yet, but I'm starting to worry: what if we stay here and starve to death?

I started looking for an exit, walked around twice, but found nothing. Suddenly I looked up and saw a mountain of gold coins, and that one look made me freeze, a bold idea suddenly popping into my head.

I rushed to where the weapons were kept, grabbed a long golden spear, and returned to the mountain of gold coins. I stuck it into the spear a few times on both sides. With a few clattering sounds, some gold coins fell down, but the gold coins on the "mountain top" remained unmoved. Together with the empty spaces on the left and right sides, they formed a strange shape. It was neither a triangle, nor a square, nor a rhombus; it was just an irregular shape that was extremely similar to the pattern of the blood droplets.

“I just saw this mountain,” I said to him, quite surprised. “It’s thick on the left and thin on the right, but the top looks unusually solid. It has a very strange shape, a bit like my design. I was wondering if it would look even more like my design if I moved or poked it.”

This poke really does look like it!

"Climb up and take a look," he said.

When the boss gives the order, how could I dare not go up? I took off my shoes, tied up the hem of my skirt, and adopted the posture I used when I was a teenager climbing mountains, and began to climb up with difficulty.

The jumbled pile of gold coins hurt my feet, but I still endured the pain and kept climbing.

I stopped when I reached the top where it met the left and right sides. I looked around for grass and was about to ask if there was really any grass when I suddenly noticed something shiny deep inside the pile of gold coins.

I scooped it up with all my might and grabbed it tightly.

—It's such a green plant! Absolutely emerald green, shimmering brightly!

I pulled it up and found that the roots of this green grass were particularly long. It must have grown under this pile of gold coins a long time ago. Even though the soil where it grew was covered by so many gold coins, it continued to grow tenaciously and thrived in the gaps of this pile of gold coins.

Judging from its growth, if I hadn't picked it now, it would have grown taller than a mountain of gold.

"Give it to me quickly!" he said urgently, his voice trembling with excitement.

For someone like him who rarely shows his emotions, this was considered out of control.

As soon as the glowing green grass was placed in front of him, he said, "Feed it to me."

As I carefully fed him, I watched in astonishment as he ate the entire long blade of grass.

He wasn't so careful when he drank porridge, spilling it as he ate, but he didn't spill a single blade of grass from this green plant.

After finishing his meal, he closed his eyes, as if he had fallen asleep.

I fell asleep too. Two hours later, I was woken up by being nudged. I opened my eyes groggily and was horrified to find that it was him who had nudged me. I immediately became alert and pointed at him in shock, "You...you can move your hand?"

"Help me up," he said briefly.

I supported his right arm, and he almost collapsed onto me, but he was able to slowly stand up, though he was extremely weak.

I looked at him in fear, “You…”

A man paralyzed like Stephen Hawking has actually recovered! It's amazing! It's incredible!

He was still leaning against me, and said weakly, “I’ve tried to commit suicide countless times, again and again, but I was saved every time. Later, I couldn’t move my hands, and even suicide became a luxury.”

I was stunned for a while before I said, "It's better to live a miserable life than to die. Look, you've finally got spring!"

A weak smile appeared on his face. "When I was ten years old, on the eve of my engagement, I was suddenly poisoned and could no longer move my body except for my hands. It's been twelve years, and I have almost given up hope."

"Then... what about Princess Marcy?" I couldn't help but ask.

“She and I were poisoned on the same day,” his voice grew weaker. “We, as siblings, are first and second in line for inheritance, respectively.”

I see.

Because he had priority in inheriting the estate, he was poisoned to death.

"You should rest for a bit." I helped him sit down, and he leaned against the corner of the wall, his voice barely audible. "When Nasiah brought you here, he told me not to kill her, that she might be useful. I thought he was lying to me, but I didn't expect she would actually be useful."

Nathia, the high-ranking official, was once the black princess in the Black Castle who wore a tin anklet.

I wanted to ask him what was going on with the tin anklet supervisor, and why he had been sent to the Black Castle to impersonate a princess. But he closed his eyes and slowly fell asleep.

——

It was a pitch-black midnight, and the wind was biting cold.

Behind the corner of the treasure cave's rock wall lies a towering cliff that seems to reach into the clouds.

Two more hours have passed.

We escaped the treasure cave, but we didn't take any gold or silver with us.

I had intended to take one or two items with me, but under his extremely cold gaze, I sheepishly withdrew my hand.

After he used a talisman to open the stone wall, I saw towering cliffs under the moonlight, with icy seawater roaring and crashing against the rocks, creating splashes hundreds of feet high.

This cliff connects to another sharp cliff, separated only by a hidden mountain path.

The castle I came from stands atop the pointed cliff.

We passed through this hidden mountain path. The path was extremely narrow, like a bridge, allowing passage only in the middle, with bottomless cliffs on both sides.

I crawled on top of it, my whole body almost sprawled out, the cold wind whistling past my ears, and I was so scared I almost fainted.

"Don't look down," his voice came softly from behind me, "look straight ahead."

"Hmm," I replied, but inwardly I was cursing, "You make it sound so easy," and I climbed even slower.

But he didn't urge him.

It took me a full half hour to climb to the other side. The night fog shrouded the two cliffs, obscuring our view, but fortunately it wasn't too thick, allowing me to see the path ahead.

As he stood up, he almost fell backward. I grabbed him, but we were moving too fast and both of us were unsteady and fell backward at the same time. I screamed and grabbed him with one hand while holding onto a protruding rock on the edge of the cliff with the other.

"Don't let go!" I screamed.

I hooked his left leg hard with my foot, and he stumbled and fell forward due to inertia. I pulled him hard again, and his whole body fell towards me. I screamed and fell to the ground.

He fell onto me, but thankfully it wasn't too heavy. I groaned softly and felt no further discomfort.

We were face to face, very close.

Under the moonlight, his golden eyes shone with a peculiar light, like sparkling diamonds.

I was lost in thought for a moment.

His eyes reminded me of the Elf Queen, who also had a pair of sparkling eyes.

It cannot be described as beautiful; it can only be admired.

"Are you alright?!" I quickly pushed him away and helped him up.

"It's alright," he said with a smile.

This was the first time I'd ever seen him smile, and he was actually quite handsome—no, a few hundred points. But I pretended not to see it.

"Can you still walk?" I noticed his lips were a little pale.

"I need you to carry it," he said weakly.

I immediately carried him on my back and started descending the mountain following the path he pointed out. The path was winding, circuitous, and treacherous. We carefully made our way along the mountainside, and if we weren't careful, a small stone we kicked would fall to the bottom of the cliff without making an echo.

I descended the mountain cautiously, my heart pounding with fear the entire way.

I would talk to him occasionally, afraid he would fall asleep—the cold mountain and sea breezes could easily cause him to catch a fever. With his constitution, a fever would be a real problem.

“Back in my hometown, you have to pay to climb mountains,” I said. “It’s so much better here, you don’t have to pay and you can still enjoy the stunning natural scenery.”

"Why spend money?" he asked.

"You have to buy tickets. Those mountains are cleaned or maintained by special personnel, such as planting greenery, cleaning, and protecting the safety of climbers, so there is a fee."

The mountain wind seemed to be getting stronger, and my voice blended with the sound of the wind. "To be honest, you're quite lucky. Some people are paralyzed for life, but you were able to recover your health after the poison was neutralized."

“Yes,” he said.

“You are actually very lucky.” I couldn’t help but tell you about my experience in the small border town in the North. “You are a man, and you come from a good family. You have many options, but I am a woman. I can only struggle at the bottom here. It is even more difficult for me to make money. There is no place for me in such a big place.”

He simply hummed in agreement.

“However, what you faced was also very dangerous, the kind that could have cost you your life at any moment.” I sighed and glanced back at him. “Fortunately, you escaped unharmed.”

Suddenly realizing he was being a bit long-winded, he stopped talking.

As they approached the bottom of the cliff, they suddenly noticed flickering lights ahead, suggesting that hundreds of guards were on duty.

“It’s near the castle entrance, and it’s heavily guarded,” he said.

"What should we do?" I panicked a little.

“Go to the right,” he said. The right side seemed to be a dead end, and I was suspicious, but I still went to the right. After only a few steps, I came face to face with a small squad of black-armored guards.

I was so startled I almost screamed, but when I saw the leader, I immediately covered my mouth.

It was that big boss, Nasiah!

Sharp eyes, brown hair, and a tall, slender figure.

When Nathia saw him on my back, his sharp eyes turned to excitement, and he almost rushed over.

I looked at him again, but he was calm and unsurprised—clearly, he had already expected Nasiah to be here—he must have somehow managed to secretly summon this high-ranking official.
