Chapter 86 "I dreamt that you and I had three or four children..."
“You don’t need to look at me like that,” I said calmly. “I’m telling the truth.”
I turned around. "I don't have the power to fight against a king. What about your power? What about your army? And if you don't have an army, what about your family?"
It remained silent.
“You must contact your family,” I said. “While it may not help you reclaim the throne, it can help you escape.”
"I will not run away, I will only seize the throne." Its deep voice came from behind me.
I laughed. "If you were the current king, would you let the previous king take back the throne? You are in a very disadvantageous position now. Even if you put in ten times the effort to seize the throne, you may not necessarily gain three or four times the benefit."
"Are you so sure?" a deep voice replied.
“You can’t even control the army, so what makes you think you can seize the throne?” I said.
I know that the current Elf King controls all the armies, or rather, everyone in the kingdom knows it. We all witnessed the grand military parade on the third day of the king's coronation, and saw all the generals kneeling respectfully on the ground, receiving their appointments from the king.
But Black Wolf might not know. It only spoke to me after the parade; before that, it may have been unconscious.
Three days later, the king's wedding took place. The dazzling lights, the luxurious carpets, the exquisite tableware, and the magnificent tablecloths made it hard to believe that this was once the place of refuge for the elves, now so splendid and magnificent.
A long horn sounded, and the Elf King entered gracefully with his bride, half-veiled in a snow-white veil. The Elf King could now walk freely, and even walk beautifully and elegantly; he must have put in a lot of hard work behind the scenes.
Princess Marcy, still in her wheelchair, gazed at him with envy, jealousy, and resentment. How could she not feel resentment? Her younger brother, once like her, could now walk, and walk so gracefully.
She looked at me with a hint of greed and longing.
Standing in the corner, I pretended not to notice, feigning amazement at the bride and groom's gorgeous attire.
It took a long time before the old princess finally looked away from me.
I secretly breathed a sigh of relief. I had a feeling the old princess was about to devour me.
A quarter of an hour later, the priest's ceremony ended, and I was about to leave the hall when I was stopped by two maids, one of whom said, "The king invites you to the main seat."
Upon reaching the main seat, the Elf King and his bride were clinking glasses and drinking. The bride had removed her snow-white veil, revealing a fair and beautiful face. She wasn't stunningly beautiful, and couldn't even compare to the two mistresses, but she was pretty and dignified, with skin as white as snow, radiating a bright and lustrous glow, which was also very attractive.
I stood there stunned for two seconds, and then the bride smiled at me.
The Elf King seemed to smile at me, but it was subtle.
"What are your special skills?" The bride's voice was exceptionally beautiful and gentle.
I paused for a moment, unsure how to answer.
“I heard that our king was able to recover his health because of your help. It would be a waste of your talents to just be the head of the maids.”
“How could that be?” I quickly said, “I think this position is very good.”
The bride playfully covered her mouth and laughed, "You're too modest, Miss Lana."
I have to admit, I really like this bride; some girls are just naturally likable.
The bride smiled and said, "Let me put it this way, if you want to be the king's mistress, I won't refuse."
I was stunned for a moment. In my opinion, this was a distorted idea, especially since it was said by a bride on her first day of marriage, yet she spoke with such an air of self-righteousness.
The Elf King's eyes were filled with interest, and a smile played on his lips.
Seeing my shock, the bride explained, "I like you because you're gentle and non-aggressive, which makes me feel less pressured."
I snapped out of my daze and laughed, "What are you talking about? Wang Yingming is wise and powerful; he's not someone as insignificant as me."
The bride was slightly taken aback, as if she hadn't expected me to answer like that.
The Elf King smiled faintly, showing no surprise.
At this moment, two alluring beauties dressed in veils, with curvaceous figures, arrived gracefully; they were the Elf King's two beautiful mistresses.
They bowed slightly, their smiles alluring, their eyes glancing at the Elf King like hooks. I bowed again discreetly and left.
As I walked through the noisy and opulent banquet hall, I thought to myself, "This place is too strange. There's the elven king who never shows his emotions, the greedy and terrifying old princess, the overly generous elven queen, and the eerie black wolf that can talk. I have to escape quickly."
I've always fallen from one pit to another, each one more dangerous than the last, but none of them have ever brought me down.
I am timid, but not cowardly.
Only by facing difficulties head-on can we usher in a new era.
Leaving the hall and passing through several corridors with ancient murals, I arrived at the terrace at the end of the quiet corridor.
A colorful bird with a long tail flew over my head, dropping a beautiful feather. Just as I picked it up, I heard the Elf King's magnificent voice behind me, "What have you found in my treasure vault?"
He actually followed me out! I was startled, and pretending to be nonchalant, I turned around, bowed respectfully, and said, "There's nothing there."
The Elf King, dressed in a magnificent fiery red groom's suit, looked at me with a half-smile. "Although you say no, and Nasiah says no, I know you're lying to me."
"No, you've misunderstood," I immediately denied.
“You can’t fool me,” his golden eyes were dark and deep. “My intuition tells me that you’re lying to me and that you’re plotting something bad.”
"How could this be?" I exclaimed. "How could I do such a thing?"
He laughed, a strange laugh, and his eyes were even stranger—the kind of look that knew you were lying, yet didn't bother to question you.
I simply stopped talking, pretending to be weak, and looked down at the tips of my shoes—the tips were beautiful, with petals woven from tiny pearls on the upper and smooth, soft, dark silver fabric.
“I had a nightmare last night,” he suddenly said, “I dreamt that I had three or four children with you.”
I looked up in shock. "Indeed, this was a nightmare."
He laughed again, a deep and alluring laugh.
That night I also had a nightmare. I dreamt of a little girl, wearing a beautiful princess dress, with long, dark golden curly hair falling over her shoulders, skipping and hopping towards me, hugging my neck tightly, and saying sweetly, "Mother, you can't abandon me, you can't abandon me."
I was stunned and said to her, "I'm not your mother, you've mistaken me for someone else."
“No, you are my mother.” She hugged my neck even tighter.
“Mother, me too, me too.” A little boy with blond curly hair appeared and hugged me from behind.
"Mother, don't forget me." Two little girls appeared, they looked almost identical, their skin was incredibly white, and they rushed over to hug me.
I woke up with a start, sat up halfway in bed, and touched my forehead to find it covered in cold sweat.
My God, I didn't want to have any children, yet I had several?!
It must be the Elf King's words last night that affected me, causing me to have nightmares.
What kind of place is this?! I want to escape, the faster the better.
Before dawn, I sat on the high steps of the palace, resting my chin on my hand and watching a flock of colorful, long-tailed birds flying in the sky.
Nasiah, fully armored, was passing by on the other side of the steps with a troop of guards when I called out to him. Nasiah frowned at me, then waved for the guards to go first.
"Is there something you need?" He approached me.
I stood up with a smile. "I just wanted to talk to you."
He turned to leave, saying, "I don't have that much time."
"It won't take long, just a little while."
He turned around and said reluctantly, "What do you want to talk about?"
"I'm curious, why did you bring me to your elven realm in the first place?" I asked with a smile.
I have a feeling that Najah brought me here to rescue their king.
Nasia raised an eyebrow. "If you could turn the entire Black Castle upside down, you can turn our Elven Realm upside down too."
That's exactly the kind of "superpower" he wants.
Their king lived like a stagnant pool, with no hope of turning things around, and no ability to even commit suicide.
So when he met her, he took a chance and brought her back to the secret dwelling place of the elves.
Before bringing him back, he wrote a letter to the Elven Realm, hoping to gain the king's support, but was met with strong opposition from the king. The king strongly opposed people from the main continent entering their territory and stated bluntly that he would not rule out killing this person immediately.
Despite his objections, he insisted on bringing her here and then went to great lengths to explain before Wang agreed to let her stay.
I remained silent for a long time, knowing that he wouldn't bring me back for no reason.
I asked again, "I'd like to know, why did you go to Castle Black in the first place?"
He answered me very honestly, “Back then, the evil elves disturbed the entire main continent. Every country would send a hostage princess there. Our Elf King, who is also the father of the current monarch, was very curious. In order to obtain information about Black Castle like other countries and to understand what was going on, he decided to find a few people to pretend to be an envoy group from a small country and escort a hostage princess into Black Castle.”
"You were chosen just like that?" I asked.
“No, it was my sister who was chosen,” he said, standing on the high steps and looking at the rising sun. “Back then, the Elf King couldn’t bear to part with his own daughter, so he decided to send my sister to the Land of Death. My poor sister had never left the Elven Realm before. On her first day in the main continent, she was extremely unaccustomed to it and then unfortunately caught a cold. Not long after, she died. For the honor of the family, I had to disguise myself as a woman and go to Black Castle in her place.”
"Is it really that hard for you to adapt to the main continent?" I couldn't help but ask again.
“It’s hard to adapt,” he answered bluntly, “but we can also survive on the main continent. The main continent originally belonged to us. It was some outsiders who invaded our land and forced us to move to another land outside the barrier. It’s just that we have lived in the secret realm for hundreds of years and rarely go out, so we have slowly become unable to adapt to the outside world.”
I asked again, "Is it because you're not used to the weather?"
He frowned. "That's only part of the reason. There's also the air. The air on the main continent is polluted, unlike when our ancestors lived there hundreds of years ago. The weak elves can't adapt."
“The air on the main continent is already quite good,” I sighed.
Seriously, it's so much better than the air in the modern world.
“However, our king has decided to try to adapt to the outside world,” his eyes gradually lit up, “starting by trying to stay for a short period of time, then gradually adapting, then staying for a longer period of time, and finally fully adapting.”
"Why do this?" I asked.
He smiled faintly and said nothing more.
After that conversation, I never spoke to him again.
He seems to be avoiding me. I had hoped to get more information out of him, but now that's not going to happen.
