Chapter 235 "They only want my body..."
I even danced with the Grand Duke of Shah and his son Andrew. I wanted to dance with them again, but when they saw me, they immediately turned to other partners.
I couldn't stop laughing, and I was hugging and jumping around with other people.
A few seconds later, Paria hugged my waist tightly, preventing me from jumping with others.
I laughed and said, "What, you can't bear to part with me?"
Paria looked at me intently with her crystal-clear blue eyes, "You really can't bear to part with me."
I laughed again, my fingers tracing his eyebrows, eyes, and the tip of his nose. "Is this the kind of trick you use to win over all the men and women around you?"
“No.” His blue eyes were deep and clear. “They only want my body, but you are different.”
"I've seen handsome men before." My fingertips lingered on his fiery red lips, the implication being that he shouldn't try to seduce me.
“I never intended to seduce you,” he suddenly said, his lips capturing my fingertips. “A woman with superpowers can’t be successfully seduced.”
A warm, itchy, and slightly tingling sensation traveled to my teeth and the tip of my tongue, then down my throat to my chest and lower abdomen.
The force of his teeth was astonishing.
I was starting to struggle, but I maintained a remarkably calm expression. "Oh, so what's your solution?"
"It's true." His crystal-clear blue eyes were deep and bright, so blue they were almost drownable.
He swallowed my entire finger, his soft, warm tongue sliding across the pad of my finger, and I felt like my whole body was about to lose control.
I was completely wet, that ambiguous kind of wetness.
My goodness, she's truly a stunning beauty; besides beauty, she has other talents as well.
He really deserves this meal.
I took two steps back, panting, to physically separate myself from him. "If I weren't a superpowered woman, I really wouldn't be able to enjoy this blessing."
He smiled slightly, a captivating smile.
“It’s true,” I said. “Back in my hometown, I’m just a commoner. Forget about handsome men, even scumbags rarely have any interest in me.”
Because I have no value to be exploited.
“Enjoying the blessings of men is just as rare as enjoying the blessings of women.” As I spoke, I slightly raised my hand. “I don’t actually like indiscriminate killing. Really, if you can escape to the door when I lower my hand, you will escape death.”
I raised my hand, laughed, and spun around, waving my arms and shouting with laughter, then lowered my hands—
In that instant, I saw Paria rush out of the banquet hall, and at the same time, the door was slammed shut.
Leithia, who had been joking and laughing with the bride, looked up quickly upon hearing the sound and was startled.
But then King and Queen Midian lifted their skirts and rushed to the highest point of the dance floor—the most crowded spot—and shouted, “Shoot them all! Leave no one alive!”
Countless arrows rained down, but I quickly hid in the shadows. Several disguised servants took off their outer garments, revealing hard armor to shield me from the arrows.
But the other nobles were not so lucky. Arrows, like death warrants, shot straight at their heads, faces, and bodies, blood and spittle flying everywhere, screams and cries rising and falling. Then countless menacing black-clad assassins appeared, wielding large swords, killing one by one, the shrill screams never ceasing.
Letea led the bride through a series of hiding and evasion maneuvers. After seizing a large knife, she fought several times with the black-clad assassins. Outnumbered, she pushed the bride away, who screamed and was hacked to pieces by the large knives.
Leyia turned to flee, but was attacked from behind by an assassin in black. With a single slash, he was decapitated.
Grand Duke Shay also seized a knife and tried to fight his way out with his son, running desperately toward the door. But after only a few steps, they were surrounded and fell in a pool of blood amidst the chaos of blows.
Surrounded by dozens of guards, King and Queen Midian stood laughing on the steps, "Well done!"
The corpses of nobles and the blood on the ground were a gruesome sight, yet they served as the best aphrodisiac for power.
Queen Midian laughed ecstatically, "We've finally waited for this day!"
If Letia doesn't die, her real power in the Westerlands is threatened; if Grand Duke Shay doesn't die, she might not be able to obtain the Independent Capital. Only if they both die will she have the day when her dream comes true—to rule the Westerlands and also swallow the Independent Capital.
But she didn't notice that I had secretly released a white dove out the window earlier. The dove had a note tied to its leg and flew into the sky very quickly.
Queen Midian smiled at me and said, "You are still somewhat useful; your private army is quite impressive."
"Private army? My private army has always been outside the city." I said in astonishment.
Queen Midian's smile vanished instantly. "Take off your masks," she commanded the black-clad assassins.
The assassins in black all removed their masks, revealing themselves to be the royal guards who had accompanied King and Queen Midian. I recognized the royal guard leader; he always accompanied King and Queen Midian.
Queen Midian's expression changed drastically, and she glared at me with a fierce look. "You changed the assassin?"
"What are you saying?" I recoiled in shock at her expression. "What assassins? Aren't they all your men?"
The banquet hall doors were flung open with a bang, and a group of nobles, accompanied by a large number of guards, burst in, all gasping heavily. The leading white-bearded old nobleman was utterly shocked, his eyes wide with disbelief. He raised a trembling hand and pointed at Queen Midian, "You...you...I respected you as the Queen of the West, and always treated you with utmost courtesy, but I never expected you..."
Another old nobleman pointed at her angrily and said, "You killed our Queen Beatrice, and we haven't even settled accounts with you yet. We didn't expect you to start another massacre."
Suddenly, two old noblemen rushed out, embracing the Grand Duke of Shah and his son Andrew, weeping bitterly, "My nephew, how could you die so tragically?!"
"My little nephew...you're only thirteen!"
Then an old nobleman rushed toward the bride's body, weeping uncontrollably until he could not utter a single word and fainted.
The nobles were all furious, but even more so, they were afraid.
"Good heavens, if we also attended the wedding, wouldn't that be..."
"Oh My God!"
All those who came were elderly but highly respected nobles from the independent capital. According to the custom of the capital, they did not attend local weddings where the groom was from another country. They never expected to escape such a disaster, and now they were all sweating profusely and their legs were trembling.
Queen Midian was deathly pale. She stared at me and suddenly lunged at me. If my guards hadn't reacted quickly, I would have been torn to pieces.
"It was you, it was you, you framed me!" she screamed.
I burst into tears, backing away repeatedly, crying out, "Help, help..."
Just half an hour later, King and Queen Midian were sent to the gallows.
This was the result of discussions among the old nobles. Fearing that things might change and the people from the West might come to rescue King Midian and Queen Midian, they quickly dragged the queen, who was screaming and cursing, to the gallows.
"One, two, three, execute!" With a snap, before Queen Midian could even scream, the thick rope tightened around her neck...
Instead of watching, I sat on the steps outside the banquet hall, lost in thought.
In the dawn's light, the heavy smell of blood lingered around my nose. Was it also the smell of power?
The taste of power is bloody and cruel, exactly like that taste.
The old nobles cannot harm me, nor can they convict me.
First, the black-clad assassins and archers were all subordinates of King and Queen Midian.
Second, the guards around me are Letheia's secret guards, originally there to protect me personally, not people I prepared in advance to protect my safety.
Third, I am an ally of Letea, so there is no need to kill him. Killing him would only harm my own right-hand man.
Fourth, and most importantly, King and Queen Midian and Letea are adversaries. If Letea grows stronger in the future, it will inevitably threaten King and Queen Midian's real power in the western border. It is only natural for King and Queen Midian to set a trap to kill him.
Fifth, I was also the messenger of this massacre. Without my white doves to deliver the message, the old nobles wouldn't have arrived so quickly, and naturally, they wouldn't have been able to take revenge so soon.
No matter how you look at it, this massacre has nothing to do with me, and the old nobles can't hold me responsible. Even if some nobles have suspicions, they have no evidence to prosecute me.
And so, I killed Letea, who had conspired with others against me, and Queen Midian, who had always wanted me dead.
They still used an open strategy.
Queen Midian killed Letea and the Grand Duke and son of Shay, who wanted to replace me. Queen Midian was then killed by the angry nobles.
I didn't do anything myself from beginning to end.
The bloodshed was all on someone else's hands.
The news of King Midian and Queen Midian's execution had barely reached the Westerlands when Haydah held his coronation ceremony that very night. In the vast Westerlands, no one was more deserving of the throne than him. He was a direct descendant of the former king.
He is the real winner in this matter.
He beamed with joy and wrote me a letter himself, jokingly recounting his good fortune.
I just laughed. Who knows if it's good luck or bad luck?
That night, I also did something significant. Dressed in my finest attire, I stood in the main hall and signed two important agreements before the white-robed priest.
One document is a marriage agreement, a betrothal between my daughter, Asmin, and the son of the new lord of the Independent Royal City. The new lord is the most prominent nobleman in the city, and after the death of the Shay nobles, he holds the highest status. His only surviving son is currently five years old, and the agreement is that he and my daughter will marry upon reaching adulthood.
One document was an appointment letter, in which I was voted by the noblest nobles to be the first prime minister of the independent capital, and a female prime minister at that. Before my daughter and her fiancé officially married, I would temporarily assume all responsibilities of the capital, and real power would officially fall into my hands.
Mamboa, also dressed in formal attire, stood beside me. As Asmin's father, he too had to sign the marriage agreement.
His eyes shone brightly, unable to conceal their light.
Although her daughter is a princess of the North, she is not recognized in other countries and can only marry into the powerful families of the North. Now, with the opportunity to become the queen of an independent capital city, it is already the highest value marriage one can receive.
After the signing ceremony, Manberia walked with me through the beautiful courtyard and laughed, "Why didn't you invite me to such a fun event?"
He referred to it as a bloody wedding.
"Can I call you? You and I aren't on the same page."
He was with Letea at the time, and Letea's successful siege was a result of their aligned interests. Although I don't know how much benefit Letea gave him, I'm certain he profited considerably.
He never does business at a loss.
It was definitely not for my sake, as he claimed.
How could that be?! It's impossible even for a fool.
