The driver parked the car downstairs, helped Lu Wanzheng carry her luggage, and watched her enter the elevator before leaving.
The elevator is a door-to-door type, requiring a card swipe. She found a card she hadn't used in a long time in her bag, swiped it, and the elevator started and stopped at the corresponding floor.
She pushed her suitcase out of the elevator. It was quiet around her, with only the sound of the suitcase wheels rolling.
Lu Wanzheng opened the door. It was dark and quiet inside. She pushed her suitcase into the house and fumbled for the light switch by the door with her left hand.
She looked towards the second bedroom, but no light was coming through the crack in the door, so Mr. Xiao must have already gone to sleep.
