Xiao Qifeng sighed. He finally understood what it meant for a monarch to "not hold court in the morning"—with his beloved wife in his arms, no one would want to leave.
"Why would people in the company think you came to deliver food to Su Ge? Am I that unattractive?" His words were laced with jealousy.
Lu Wanzheng keenly sensed the meaning behind his words, "I guess everyone thinks you are inviolable and that you are incapable of being in a relationship."
"They really have no taste. They can't see how good you are. Only someone as good as me is worthy of someone as good as you. The reason I don't date is because I haven't met you. Everyone else is just a passerby in my eyes, but you are the one I'm going to spend my life with."
Lu Wanzheng's ears burned; this man could spout sweet nothings one after another. She murmured, "That's why Mr. Xiao has the best taste."
Seeing that Xiao Qifeng was still not moving, she let out a sigh of relief. "Mr. Xiao, who has excellent taste, could you please consider getting back to work first, so as not to delay our time to go home tonight?"
He whispered in Lu Wanzheng's ear, "I want to hold you every day." His voice had a lewd tone, making Lu Wanzheng blush and feel incredibly shy.
"Mr. Xiao, I'll give you three seconds to let me go, or I'll get angry." Lu Wanzheng pretended to be about to get angry.
Xiao Qifeng's expression tightened. "Even holding a girlfriend is a luxury now." He released Lu Wanzheng and carried her back to the sofa. "I'll work hard and win her heart as soon as possible."
He returned to his boss's chair with an innocent look on his face and buried himself in his work.
Su Ge stood at the door, hesitating whether or not to go in. He had just learned that Lu Wanzheng was trending on Weibo again because of him.
Is it too late for me to apologize now?
He raised his hand to knock on the door, then hesitated and lowered it again, considering whether he could withstand the CEO's wrath.
But if he doesn't speak up, won't he suffer an even worse death?
The future boss's wife is still inside. Will she save his life because of his good attitude in admitting his mistake?
Finally, she placed all her hopes on Lu Wanzheng and mustered up the courage to knock on the office door.
"Come in." Xiao Qifeng's calm voice came through the crack in the door.
With a nervous heart, Su Ge walked into the office. He walked very quietly, afraid that walking too loudly would make Xiao Qifeng even angrier.
"Boss, I was wrong. I've dragged Madam into this storm of public opinion. I'm doing my best to stop it." Every word Su Ge uttered made her heart pound, fearing that one word might provoke Xiao Qifeng.
Xiao Qifeng didn't look up. "I understand. Go out." Although his tone was cold and devoid of warmth, based on his many years of experience working by his side, Su Ge felt that Xiao Qifeng wasn't angry.
He immediately fled the office as if escaping, leaving only a gust of wind behind. The office was no longer there, and the door seemed to have never been opened.
Lu Wanzheng watched in stunned silence. Was Mr. Xiao the King of Hell or a devil? And why did Assistant Su seem to be struggling to escape from the brink of death?
She shook her head inwardly; it seemed that Mr. Xiao was not gentle at all with his subordinates.
Su Ge left the office unscathed in full view of everyone, and it took less than a minute from entering to exiting. When did the president become so easy to talk to? This made everyone around him very curious.
One person said, "The president isn't angry? I thought he would punish Assistant Su because he was jealous."
Upon hearing this, Su Ge said, "Can't you be a little gentler with me? Why are you cursing me with such vicious words? What about the friendliness between colleagues? I'm done with this. I'll just wave goodbye for a minute."
The employee who was speaking chose to mute himself, and everyone present probably thought the same thing: they didn't expect you to come out unscathed.
The group huddled together, glancing at Su Ge, who was quite a distance away, to make sure he couldn't hear them. "I bet the future boss's wife spoke up for Assistant Su, otherwise the president would never have let Assistant Su off so easily."
"Who says otherwise? I didn't expect the future boss's wife to be so kind and even speak up for Assistant Su."
"This matter has nothing to do with Assistant Su. It's all because those people at the front desk saw it and started talking nonsense," one person said with dissatisfaction. "Those people downstairs thought they had discovered something incredible. They believed everything they heard, not only wronging Assistant Su, but also spreading the story online. I wonder if the president will blame them later."
"We can only silently pray that innocent people like us won't be implicated."
"Since Assistant Su came out unharmed, I believe the president won't hold a grudge against us."
Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned. Su Ge stopped opposing Xiao Qifeng's opinion and instead agreed with his previous idea. The two of them started the initial plan without prior consultation.
The employees on the lower floors suddenly found that their workload had doubled. After making inquiries, they learned that the president was furious because of what Lu Wanzheng had been exposed before.
The increased workload is simply telling them to do their jobs well and not waste their time on entertainment gossip.
Of course, these are all things to be discussed later.
The studio acted quickly, openly acknowledging that Lu Wanzheng was in a relationship, but denying that the man was Su Ge, stating that he was not in the entertainment industry, and hoping that fans and netizens would give the two some private space.
This open admission caught netizens off guard and left Lu Wanzheng's fans completely off guard.
Many of Lu Wanzheng's male fans said they were unfollowing her after learning the news, but her fans who admired her looks and her die-hard fans still silently protected her, and they posted on Weibo and left messages of blessing under the studio's Weibo.
The exposure of her relationship caused Lu Wanzheng to lose many fans, but it also solidified her fan base.
Without any representative works or much fame, Lu Wanzheng's relationship didn't stay on the trending topics for long.
Only Lu Wanzheng's fans are still curious about the man's specific identity.
Xiao Qifeng knew that this matter most likely originated from his own company. Although he didn't know why Su Ge had become Lu Wanzheng's "rumored boyfriend," some things still needed to be verified.
As August draws to a close and the Beginning of Autumn in the twenty-four solar terms has passed, the sweltering heat still lingers over the city.
As four o'clock approached, the sun began to set in the west, no longer dazzling.
Seeing that it was getting late, Lu Wanzheng got up and walked up to Xiao Qifeng. "Mr. Xiao, it's getting late, I need to go home."
She didn't get the expected invitation to stay, and for a moment it felt unreal. She thought Mr. Xiao would keep trying to persuade her to stay and go home with him.
Upon hearing this, Xiao Qifeng put down the urgent documents in his hand, took Lu Wanzheng's hand, and led her out the door.
