Chapter 22

Colorful centipede

The Hehuan Sect was filled with spiritual energy. When Xu Shulou woke up, she felt refreshed after only sleeping for half the night. She casually put on the colorful feathered dress and opened the door.

Bai Roushuang was squatting in the corner of the yard, fiddling with something. Xu Shulou went over and found her staring at a group of colorful centipedes on the ground.

Their colorful skin sparkles in the morning sun.

Bai Roushuang covered half of her eyes, trying to only admire their skins and not their many legs: "It's as if the most beautiful and the most disgusting things in the world are combined together."

Xu Shulou smiled and grabbed her by the back of the neck and lifted her up: "Have you had breakfast?"

"No," Bai Roushuang patted her collar, "I just asked around, and the people of the Hehuan Sect only eat wind and drink dew, and they don't have the habit of having breakfast."

"Eating wind and drinking dew?"

"That's what I concluded," Bai Roushuang stuck out her tongue, "They were drinking honey, and someone just gave me a glass, but I didn't have the nerve to say that I also wanted a meat bun."

"We are sorry for not hosting you well enough," a young lady walked over and heard their conversation. She bowed quickly and said, "I'm sorry, but there are only mortals in the Hehuan Sect who need to eat. Everyone else is used to drinking spiritual honey in the morning and eating spiritual herbs in the evening. We neglected our distinguished guests for a moment."

"No problem." Xu Shulou returned the greeting.

"If you don't mind eating with mortals, I will lead the brothers and sisters over right away. It's their breakfast time now."

"Please lead the way, young lady."

Bai Roushuang quickly shouted, "Brothers and sisters, it's time to eat!"

Before she finished her words, the next moment, a group of people from Wuchen Island appeared behind her as if in a flash, each of them looking calm and gentle.

The girl from the Hehuan Sect opened her beautiful eyes wide and smiled with her hands covering her lips.

The group followed her, through a winding path surrounded by ancient vines, and came to a courtyard.

There were several large pots in the yard. Some people were kneading dough, some were steaming rice, and some were fetching water. There was also a rope tied to a tree nearby for drying clothes.

Bai Roushuang had seldom seen such trivialities of life since she entered the Immortal Gate. When she saw them this time, she felt quite familiar, as if she had returned to the village where she grew up in her childhood.

The Hehuan Sect took in quite a few mortals, and there were more than twenty people squeezed on the long table alone.

No one was surprised to see them, but just enthusiastically added bowls and chopsticks to the group.

"Thank you," Xu Shulou took the bowl of porridge and casually brought up a topic, "Auntie, are you all from the nearby Wushuang City?"

"I'm the only one," the old lady smiled warmly, "the others are from all over the place."

"How did you get into the Hehuan Sect?"

"Well, my husband died a few years ago, and my brother-in-law's family wanted to take over the property left by my late husband, so they framed me for having an affair and wanted to kick me out," the old lady wiped her hands on her skirt and sat down next to Xu Shulou. "I ran away with my daughter, but luckily Sect Master Luo was kind and was willing to take us in."

"Which one is your daughter?"

"My daughter is not here. She has entered the Hehuan Sect to practice. The leader said that she has spiritual roots and can cultivate immortality," the old lady said with a bit of pride. "I used to hear that there are monsters sucking people's essence here at the foot of the mountain, but it's not true at all."

"Yes, it's all just rumors," the elegant lady opposite Xu Shulou answered, "I was originally a girl from a wealthy family, but later I was raped by a thief. My parents thought I was bringing disgrace to the family, so they sent me to a farm in the countryside to be imprisoned. I found a chance to escape, and by chance I was taken in by the clan leader."

"And me." A scarred woman brought them a plate of pickled mustard greens and sat down to tell them her story.

Bai Roushuang sensed something was wrong and whispered, "Senior Sister, do you think the people from the Hehuan Sect deliberately tricked us into coming here to hear about these hardships so that you would be compassionate and decide to help?"

Xu Shulou tugged at her bangs and said, "You've grown better."

Bai Roushuang rested her chin on her hand and said, "I was wondering why they were so open about everything they knew. Could it be that they were trying to trick people with pre-written excuses?"

"No," Xu Shulou shook his head, "The eyes can't lie."

She has walked through the human world, seen intrigue and deception, and also seen true sorrow. After seeing so much, she can recognize one or two.

Xu Shulou took a bite of pickles, drank up the porridge in front of him, and shared his new progress with his master: "I went to the barren mountains outside Wushuang City to dig graves last night, and those corpses were indeed contaminated with demonic energy."

Bai Roushuang was surprised: "You went to dig... uh, dig a grave in the middle of the night?"

Xu Shulou was at a loss: "Would it be better to go during the day?"

“…Not really.”

"In short, all the corpses were contaminated with demonic energy, without exception. Judging from the way they cut open their bellies, they must have been the same person, or the same demon," Xu Shulou said. "By the way, they accidentally frightened a scholar to death. I sent him back to the city. I don't know what he was doing in the deserted mountains in the middle of the night."

Bai Roushuang's eyes flashed with the strange scene of her senior sister digging more than a dozen graves in a dark and windy night, and bending over to carefully examine the wounds of the corpses. She shuddered and felt deep sympathy for the scholar.

After breakfast, Xu Shulou went to meet with the leader of the Hehuan Sect alone, and then the group set off.

After leaving the range of Cangcui Mountain, they saw a group of people from Lingxiao Sect waiting on the road they had to pass.

Lu Beichen held a sword in his hand, with bright eyebrows and bright eyes, standing there like a disciple of a famous and upright sect. When he saw Wuchen Island's group, he raised his eyebrows and smiled and said, "I believe you are also here to kill demons. How about we cooperate together?"

Xu Shulou did not comment: "Do you have any rules?"

Lu Beichen gave a standard answer: "Wait."

A disciple behind him seemed a little impatient and asked, "What clues did the people from the Hehuan Sect give you? If you want to cooperate, you can't hide anything from each other."

Is this for clues? Bai Roushuang couldn't help but roll her eyes.

Xu Shulou smiled and walked around Lu Beichen: "I have an idea."

"Speaking."

"I have observed the ages and figures of the men who were victims. Senior Brother Lu fits the bill. How about you restrain your spiritual energy and pretend to be a mortal to act as bait to lure the demon into making a move?"

“…”

“How can we do this?” A disciple behind Lu Beichen stepped forward and said, “My senior brother is the disciple of the Supreme Elder and the best of this generation in the sect. How can he be sacrificed so easily?”

Xu Shulou felt quite regretful: "Which one of you can be sacrificed so easily?"

"How dare you!" As an angry shout rang out, two cultivators, a man and a woman, fell from the sky and landed in front of everyone. The man had white hair and beard, and the woman was a middle-aged beauty. They were the two elders of Lingxiao Sect, Fan Yang and Fan Zhi, and they were brother and sister.

Xu Shulou was very polite: "Greetings to the two Elders Fan."

Others also saluted.

As soon as the two landed, they began to rebuke Xu Shulou: "How can you, the senior disciple of Lingxiao Sect, make such a joke!"

"Shu Lou was wrong," Xu Shu Lou took a step back, "Senior, you have come all the way here, why don't we sit down and discuss a plan to kill the demon."

Fan Yang looked at the people of Wuchen Island with an arrogant look and said, "Stay outside the city. I will notify you when we need you!"

"You are an elder, but not Shu Lou's elder." After giving the other party face, Xu Shu Lou never liked to compromise. He opened his folding fan and waved it in front of him. "You can cooperate, but don't think of commanding my Wuchen Island disciples in this tone."

Fan Yang glanced at Bai Roushuang behind her and sneered, "There are even those who haven't established their foundation yet. In recent years, there are fewer and fewer people available on Wuchen Island."

Bai Roushuang was also sizing him up, leaning close to Jiang Yan and whispering in his ear: "Fifth Senior Brother, it is said that a cultivator's appearance will remain at the moment of foundation building, so wouldn't this Elder Fan be..."

"It was not until he was in his seventies or eighties that the foundation was built." Jiang Yan finished the conversation for her.

"Don't be so presumptuous, you little brat!" Fan Yang was so angry that he attacked Bai Roushuang and Jiang Yan. If this spiritual power was effective, it would be enough to make Jiang Yan vomit blood and Bai Roushuang break several ribs.

Xu Shulou leaped up and stood in front of the two men like a swallow skimming the water, taking the attack.

An elder who had lived for hundreds of years attacked a young man who had not yet established his foundation just because of a disagreement. Xu Shulou was also a little angry: "After the cultivators of your generation ascended, Elder Fan may have gotten used to being so arrogant that he even went so far as to discipline the younger generation on Wuchen Island."

These words touched a sore spot for Fan Yang. He had mediocre qualifications and had become an elder only because of his age and seniority. When Xu Shulou mocked him, he became furious.

"Today I will teach you a lesson on your mouth on behalf of Pei Changyu!" Fan Yang attacked her with a palm, and before the others could react, the two had already exchanged several moves.

Bai Roushuang's face turned pale, she hated herself for being too talkative and causing trouble for her senior sister. It was just that Fan Yang had been derogatory towards them since he showed up, so she couldn't help but fight back.

Jiang Yan and the others were about to draw their swords to help, but were stared at by Fan Zhi, who pressed his right hand on the long whip at his waist: "Hmm?"

This was obviously a threat. If anyone else on Wuchen Island dared to help Xu Shulou, she would also be punished.

Bai Roushuang was so anxious that she wanted to cry. These two elders from Lingxiao Sect were both unreasonable: "Senior Brother Lu..."

When Lu Beichen saw her look asking for help, he smiled bitterly in his heart. These two might not listen to his advice.

Xiao Ya behind him couldn't stand it any more. Everyone came here to kill the demons, but the two elders just arrived today and didn't do any work. Why did they start fighting with other sects?

She raised her voice and said, "Master Fan, killing the demon is a big deal, why don't we stop and discuss a countermeasure first."

Fan Yang pretended not to hear anything. Fan Zhi smiled and pulled her over: "Junior apprentice Xiao, don't mind him. He has such a bad temper."

Fan Yang felt bitter in his heart, because he could no longer stop whenever he wanted, as Xu Shulou had already drawn her sword. Her sword was extremely powerful and domineering, and was now suppressing him.

The sword energy is as strong as the wind, and the spirit is as powerful as a rainbow.

The more he fought, the more exhausted he found it. At the fiftieth move, he was chopped away by Xu Shulou's sword. He fell to the ground, barely standing, and forced himself to hold back the blood that was about to come out of his mouth.

Fan Zhi was startled and quickly drew out the whip to rush forward, but Fan Yang raised his hand to stop her.

Everyone was stunned. They knew that Xu Shulou was powerful, but was there no limit to your power? You could even beat the elders?

Lu Beichen stared at this scene, and for a moment he was actually quite relieved. See, I'm not the only one who can't win! I'm not the only one who will be beaten back!

Xu Shulou stood with a sword on her back. Her sword could not be sheathed unless she took a life. So she could only hold it like this for the time being.

By the way, he raised his hand and pointed at Fan Yang, giving his junior sister a lesson: "Did you see? This is the consequence of using elixirs to forcibly build a foundation. You only have realm, but your strength is too weak."

Fan Yang finally spat out the blood.
