Chapter 313 Plan

"Brother? What are you guys doing out here?!"

When Lu Xiaoyao saw Mu Chen and Lu Gui leading all the people from her room out of the cave, everyone inside was first stunned, then filled with joy.

"What happened...? Did that bird fly away?"

"No, we completely dismantled the window and climbed it out."

After Lu Gui answered, Julian, who was standing to the side, hesitated to speak.

Why could he talk about breaking out of the window without any remorse? Is it because the window was taken from his room, and he was just unlucky to be unable to live there anymore?

Julian was beginning to wonder why he had chosen a north-facing room in the first place, since there just happened to be no bird feathers blocking the way this time.

After this matter is resolved, he'll probably go back to living in the cave.

His initial plan seemed sound, but now, seeing the shattered doorway at the cave entrance and the icy wind howling in from behind, Julian fell silent.

He wrapped himself tightly in his animal skin and remained quiet without saying a word.

"So what's the situation now?"

When the big creatures inside the cave saw that people had come out of the house, they quickly went up to ask what was going on.

"We don't know about the others, but our house is fine and hasn't collapsed. The quality of the house is still reliable... Maybe it's because the big bird didn't land its entire body on the house... Hmm, the situation of the big birds should be similar, if the quality of the house is not a problem."

After all, these houses are entirely man-made, so there are bound to be some discrepancies, but they shouldn't all collapse, right?

As Lu Gui said this, he recalled the moment when they had slipped out from behind the house and looked up at the back of that huge bird that looked like a mountain.

His mind went completely blank for a moment.

Such a big bird, that's outrageous!

The way he squatted there with his neck stretched out made it seem like his head could be level with the mountaintop.

"This bird doesn't look particularly ferocious, but once it targets you, there's no reasoning with it. We should try to get rid of it as soon as possible."

Zhen Hu used his natural intuition about animals to analyze the fat bird's temperament with Lu Gui and the others.

Julian glanced at the mess at the cave entrance and asked thoughtfully, "What big bird did you provoke?"

"Ah... not really. Not long ago, it probably just noticed us on a whim and somehow 'blew' a bunch of snow into our cave."

No one present dared to say for sure whether the bird was drawn by Lu Xiaoyao's provocation, so no one told Lu Gui and the others about what had happened earlier.

It can't be that Lu Xiaoyao glanced at the big bird, and the big bird, out of curiosity, asked "What are you looking at?" and then launched a "joking" attack on them, right?

"Previously... that bird did stand up."

Lu Gui pondered for a moment and then realized that it must have been that bird that got up and did something to the cave.

This bird is indeed a bit mischievous.

"How about we use fire?" someone suggested. "If its feathers catch fire, the bird will realize something's wrong and fly away, won't it?"

"If everyone is inside the house, will the house be burned down as well?"

Mu Chen, who was standing to the side, had no idea what the other person was thinking when he heard the suggestion.

Just as they were talking, people from several other houses not far away seemed to rush out by climbing out of windows or something, but they looked more disheveled than Mu Chen and his group.

"What happened to you?"

Mingmei reached out and caught the girl who rushed towards her, almost losing control and nearly crashing into the wall.

As Mingmei helped the other person up and took a closer look, she realized that it was actually Mu Ning. However, Mu Ning's face looked as if it had just been burned by smoke and fire, and her dirty face looked no different from that of a refugee.

"Don't even mention it, my God, it was just a bird!"

After being helped up by Mingmei, Mu Ning stood up and looked back at her residence, answering Mingmei's question as she looked.

"It was that bird's feather that blocked our chimney. Smoke was backing up from under our kang (heated brick bed), filling the whole house with smoke. The door was blocked too, and we couldn't find our way around. So we had no choice but to just tear down the window and run out."

The people in Mu Ning's room fared much worse than Ming Mei and the others.

"This bird is huge! It's like a small mountain is pressing down on us!"

"You can argue with that, but we still have to chase the birds away, otherwise we really can't live like this."

At this moment, the fat bird seemed to be dozing off and didn't notice Lu Xiaoyao and the others' reaction.

"But in this freezing cold, it's like they've finally found a nest. Aren't they going to be difficult to deal with?"

While everyone was chattering away, Mingmei and Zhenhu stared intently at the dozing fat bird for quite a while.

Seeing it squatting in the middle of the house, occasionally shaking its body and trying to curl itself into a ball, rubbing and scratching itself, something flashed through my mind, but I didn't catch that fleeting inspiration.

"No, maybe... we don't need to rush?" Just as everyone was brainstorming and trying to come up with a solution, Zhen Hu gave another answer.

“This bird is afraid of the cold,” Zhen Hu added. “Look at how it looks now, doesn’t it look like it’s trying to keep warm? It probably sees how warm everyone’s kang (heated brick bed) is and it can absorb heat by sitting there.”

"What? Is that so?"
