Chapter 316 Winter is Gone

Mingmei's worries were definitely not unfounded; her uncle had a "previous record," you know?

Upon hearing Mingmei's words, Mu Chen lowered his head and chuckled softly. Then, he looked at the scenery that had been divided in two by the giant rock mountain. He looked down at the ground beneath his feet, his eyes flickering slightly, as if he were deep in thought.

"Alright, it's time to go down the mountain. If we're lucky, we might even see the sunrise."

No one knew that the two of them had secretly climbed the mountain late at night. Although he told Lu Gui that he was going out to find Mingmei when he went back, it would be worrying for anyone if they went out one after the other and didn't come back for most of the night.

Sure enough, as soon as they came down the mountain, they saw Lu Gui standing in front of them with a torch in his hand, looking resentful, just like a resentful woman waiting for her husband who had not returned home for many years (?).

Seeing this, Mingmei and Muchen couldn't help but feel a little guilty.

"Now I understand why you pushed me to be the temporary 'village chief'."

Lu Gui stared intently at the two of them, then at their tightly clasped hands, and let out a muffled groan: "I'll be driven mad by your behavior sooner or later!"

Lu Gui couldn't even imagine what it would be like if Mu Chen became the decision-maker, and everyone turned around to ask him about something, only to find him nowhere to be found.

"Fortunately, since I've already started, I won't do anything I'm not sure I can handle."

Mu Chen wasn't embarrassed at all; on the contrary, his appearance made Lu Gui laugh in exasperation. Lu Gui didn't look at him but turned to Mingmei, who was already half-hidden behind Mu Chen out of guilt, and said, "You too, as a priest, what if something happens to you?"

Can't you wish me something good?

She was given this reason again and she spoke in a soft, melancholic tone, but she also solemnly swore that she would not do it again.

"Actually... I'm quite skilled, so don't worry too much."

"Not worried? If you encounter a wild beast, what are your skills? You're not even that fast!"

Mingmei: "..."

She couldn't respond to that.

Lu Gui reminded the two that the game world they were in was not an ordinary desolate planet.

And so, Lu Gui continued to nag the two of them all the way back to the cave. The two of them remained silent and humbly accepted it, after all, it was Lu Gui's good intention.

Just because he waited outside for them all night, they wouldn't be so foolish as to complain that he did something wrong.

However, Lu Gui's incessant chatter really startled Mingmei.

"You mean... how come Lu Gui is so talkative at such a young age?"

The next day, Mingmei woke up naturally and then went back to the cottage with Mu Chen and the others to tidy up the house.

Because the windows were removed and the doors and windows weren't closed properly when the bird flew away, dust, weeds, and dry snow were swept into the house when the fat bird took off from the spot. Anyone who didn't know better would think the house had been burgled!

While cleaning, Mingmei watched Lu Gui chasing after Lu Xiaoyao, nagging her that Lu Xiaoyao hadn't swept the floor properly and that she should be more efficient.

What do you mean by "seeing the big picture from small details"? What if Lu Xiaoyao is this lazy and listless when she fights with wild animals in the future?

This constant chasing after her made Lu Xiaoyao roll her eyes so hard she could barely keep them up. Mingmei, who was tidying up the house, couldn't stop laughing and even told Mu Chen about it.

"I just love to worry."

Despite Lu Gui's smiling demeanor when she first arrived, Mu Chen could clearly see the aloofness in her eyes.

After spending more time with him, I realized that he was extremely kind to his own people. When someone is kind, you tend to worry about them, and when you worry, you can't help but say a few things.

Sometimes Mu Chen misses the way Lu Gui used to be so sarcastic and unwilling to talk to him at the beginning.

Sigh~ Is this considered remembering the bitter past and appreciating the sweet present?

While Lu Xiaoyao was being nagged by her older brother, Julian and his roommates had already reinstalled the windows, but this time they weren't as meticulous as when they first installed them.

The translucent resin was found in the dense forest at the foot of the mountain, but now that the heavy snow had sealed it off, it was impossible to find it. Julian simply used some thin branches to cover the large hole in the wall, and then covered it with an airtight animal hide.

During the day, the animal hides are lifted up to let in some light and air, and then put down again at night.

Winter is a time of rest and renewal for all things, and Mingmei and her companions were no exception. Apart from the unexpected incident involving the fat bird, nothing happened that caused them any fear or anxiety throughout the winter.

Before they knew it, the season of melting snow and the revival of all things arrived. They still vividly remembered the beast tide at the beginning of spring in the post-apocalyptic dungeon, so they naturally understood the dangers of spring here. Going down the mountain to hunt was something they had to be extra cautious about.

"As soon as spring arrives, those animals that have been starving all winter are really... We're hiding in that tree today, and you haven't seen it yet, but such a huge wild beast was surrounded and bitten to death by dozens of wild animals that look like hyenas."

"Oh my, really? Are those hyenas that fierce?"

"That's for sure! Later, when some carnivorous wild beasts wanted to get a share, they were scared away by its bared teeth!"

When it came to those wild beasts that were probably the ancestors of hyenas, the villagers, having eaten and drunk their fill that evening, gathered around the newly built square in the village and listened as Zhen Po vividly described them.

"Isn't it dangerous for you to go hunting down the mountain?"

Mingmei and the other players who gather wild fruits and vegetables haven't come down the mountain recently. Listening to Zhen Po's description, they felt that after a winter away, the area down the mountain had become dangerous.

"It's okay, but something still feels off..."

Zhen Po scratched his head, pondering what had happened during his recent hunting trips down the mountain. Zhen Hu, however, spoke first: "It seems like there are fewer animals lately. Especially the small herbivores."
