"It's a bit small here, but it's well hidden."
As Mingmei and Mu Chenyue walked towards the residential area of the underground city, Mingmei felt that the environment here was much better than that of the black market yesterday.
If her first impression last night was that it was dark, chaotic and noisy, then the environment of this residential area should be considered quiet and peaceful.
Mingmei looked up at the sky above her head, where countless fragmented energy crystals were embedded, like a starry river in the night sky that seemed within reach.
Although the environment wasn't exactly bright, it felt like walking under a full moon, and everything around was clearly visible.
Along the narrow street, there were houses of varying sizes and shapes, each with a slightly different style. After just a couple of glances, Mingmei could tell that these houses were probably inhabited by more than just humans.
However, the place was unusually quiet, like a ghost town. Mingmei and Muchen had been walking on the road for so long, but they hadn't seen a single person. The houses on both sides were dark and without any light, making it really hard to tell that there were people here.
Mu Chen's house was actually a treehouse, seemingly built on a tree trunk. However, Mingmei stood below and looked carefully for a second before confirming that it was not a tree trunk, but a tree root.
Mingmei was pulled into the treehouse by Mu Chen, where there was originally only one single bed.
Mu Chen reached out and touched a switch on the wall. Mingmei heard a click, and the whole room instantly lit up. Mingmei looked up and realized that the room was powered on.
She looked at the single bed on the left side of the entrance, next to a single table, and on the table was a light computer, the kind used for work.
"There's still electricity here, and a quantum computer?"
Now it was Mingmei's turn to be surprised. This was so different from the world on Earth!
“I didn’t see anyone selling these at the night market yesterday.”
Mingmei recalled the same situation yesterday and looked at Mu Chen incredulously, "Is this something only you have, or does everyone have it?"
"It's not everyone, it's just my job to make a living, so of course I get paid."
Mu Chen had already started tidying up the other side where there had been some miscellaneous items. As he tidied, he said, "This side is also a bit shrewd, isn't it? It's specifically for people whose identities have been blacklisted and who can't access the StarNet to go online regularly."
"Can people living on the ground also speak?"
"Of course, if you're free tonight, I can take you to see it."
As he spoke, Mu Chen cleared out the corner, which wasn't particularly messy, then squatted down and pried open the wooden floorboards beside him. There was actually a space underneath, from which Mu Chen took out two clean and tidy quilts.
"I'll go to the night market later to buy you a bed. If you don't have a bed, you can buy materials or make a simple mattress like I did..."
Everything Mu Chen had planned seemed too incredible to Mingmei.
They've only been in the game for a short time, so why does Mu Chen seem to have been there for ages and already prepared everything?
"If you weren't here, I don't know what would have happened if I had come in by myself..."
Seeing that he was doing everything in an orderly manner, Mingmei lowered her eyelashes and murmured softly, but this did not escape Mu Chen's ears.
"Then you shouldn't be here."
"Um?"
"If you've invested all your resources in the dungeon, the first thing you should do upon entering is to accept and complete quests in exchange for a temporary place to live. The difficulty of the quests you choose will determine your initial living environment here."
When Mu Chen transmigrated, he already had everything he was supposed to have in his identity and role. However, the clean bedding was something he had bought at the night market the night before. He always believed that he would reunite with Mingmei in the game. He just needed to prepare everything and wait for his little princess to arrive, so that she wouldn't suffer.
"I see." Not seeing the gentle expression on Mu Chen's face, Mingmei walked to the window of the treehouse and looked down at the buildings below. Because of the height, Mingmei could see the backyard of some houses clearly at a glance. However, she saw that the backyard of one house was actually a pond.
Mingmei glanced curiously at the house in the backyard filled with pools, but then remembered that this was a mixed community of races, inhabited not only by humans.
"What are you looking at?"
"I'm wondering if there are insectoids here in the alien sea."
"Yes, but very, very few. I've never seen one, but I've heard of them."
"Yeah?"
Mingmei turned to look at Mu Chen, quite surprised.
"Last night, while watching an underground boxing match, I overheard people talking around me. If they hadn't mentioned the presence of Zerg, I wouldn't have believed it."
"Why?" Mingmei asked, puzzled. After all, if people in the outer sea dared to sell information to the Zerg, it wasn't impossible that there were Zerg people living here.
"The Zerg are a race with very high loyalty to their own race. Except for a few extremely large ones, they are basically a group-living race. However, the fact that the Zerg live alone does not mean that they are willing to live together with other races."
"Forget it, what are those spies from the Empire and the Federation anyway?" Mingmei scoffed, then added, "The knowledge in books isn't static either."
"The hidden Zerg you mentioned are indeed an exception, but those hidden Zerg never revealed their identities from beginning to end. They carefully disguised themselves as humans and infiltrated the ranks. It seems abnormal that everyone knows they are Zerg, doesn't it?"
Upon hearing this, Mingmei was also stunned. She looked up at Mu Chen, who was smug and calm, and asked with some uncertainty, "Are you saying that this Zerg is likely to be a maverick who betrayed the Zerg and lives here?"
"I don't know if they betrayed the Zerg, but they are indeed very special, otherwise Mr. Yan Hui wouldn't have included them in the game."
