Chapter 21 Differential Treatment

Qin Jing didn't get home until the evening of the next day after finishing his performance.

He was still in his performance costume and had his makeup done. He casually tossed his suitcase aside, walked straight to the sofa, and slumped down on it, muttering, "Brother, what's the matter that you called me back in such a hurry?"

When Qin Hao returned from Qin Yunie's hometown, he went to the room she used to live in and found it empty. There were no cozy decorations like those worn by girls, nor any pretty clothes or dolls that girls would like.

He asked Aunt Tian, and she said that on the day Qin Yunie left, she only took a very small suitcase with her, which she had brought with her when she came.

In other words, Qin Yunie has hardly bought anything in the years since he came to the Qin family.

This is clearly abnormal.

He didn't know about other girls, but Qin Nian, for example, used to buy a lot of clothes, bags, shoes, and countless dolls of all sizes almost every month. As long as they were pretty, she would buy them.

Her room was the largest, but because she had so many clothes and bags, the original walk-in closet was simply not enough, so the adjacent room was specially converted into a walk-in closet for her.

In contrast, Qin Yunie's room was so clean and tidy that it didn't seem like a girl's room, but rather like a short-term tenant who might leave at any time.

Qin Hao leaned forward. "I went to see Yu Nie's room yesterday."

Qin Jing casually plucked a grape and popped it into his mouth, saying in a muffled voice, "And then?"

“I asked Aunt Tian, and she said that Yu Nie only took a suitcase when she left, but when I went to check, her room was so clean and empty that it didn't seem like a girl's room. Do you know what that means?”

"This means that after all these years in our family, she has no sense of belonging whatsoever! It's her own home, but she doesn't feel at home..."

Qin Jing said nonchalantly, "Maybe she's a bit of a germaphobe and doesn't like having too many things in the room. It's not as complicated as you're making it out to be."

"You went to all this trouble to bring me back? Do you know how many other things I have to do?" Qin Jing became increasingly dissatisfied, and in the end, he even stopped eating the grapes.

Qin Huai pushed two suitcases into the house first, and saw his two older brothers there. He asked in surprise, "Second brother? Why are you back? What are you talking about?"

When Qin Nian heard that Qin Jing had returned, she quickly took her mother's hand and walked in, her eyes sparkling as she asked, "Second Brother, when did you get back?"

Qin Jing called out, "Mom."

He nodded and said, "I just got back not long ago. My elder brother was talking about Yu Nie's departure."

Upon hearing this, Qin Huai's face immediately fell, and he said unhappily, "She's already gone, why bring her up again?"

Qin Nian's complexion was also not good.

Qin Hao stood up and said, "Since everyone is here, let's go take a look together."

Everyone looked at each other, bewildered, and followed Qin Hao to the door of a room. He stood at the door and pushed it open.

Qin Huai asked in confusion, "Isn't this just an ordinary room? What are you showing us?"

Qin Hao said, "This is Yu Nie's room."

Qin Nian glanced at it and immediately understood what her older brother had shown them. She pursed her lips, concealing the resentment in her eyes.

Qin Yunie has been gone for so long, why should I still argue with her!

Qin Jing asked in confusion, "This is her room? How come she lives on the same floor as the maid?"

He had only heard his older brother mention it briefly and didn't feel much about it until he saw it with his own eyes. He realized that the room was indeed unusually clean.

There was nothing there except for basic furnishings and bedding.

Qin's mother was also shocked, feeling as if she were abusing her own daughter.

She explained, "I had someone transfer money to her every month; she didn't buy anything herself. There weren't any extra rooms at home at the time, so she was temporarily staying here..."

Qin's mother sounded somewhat unsure when she said this.

Qin Hao suddenly seemed to remember something and asked, "Mom, how much money do you have someone send her each month?"

She subconsciously said, "I don't have time to transfer it myself. I'll just have the finance department transfer the money to her on time every month."

He then asked, "How much does Qin Nian earn each month?"

Qin's mother blurted out, "100,000."

After Qin's mother finished speaking, she realized something was wrong.

Sure enough, not only did Qin Hao's eyes show a complicated expression, but Qin Jing's expression also changed.

They're both daughters. One of them doesn't even know how much money she receives each month; the finance department has to make the payments.

The other is to personally handle the transaction. The difference between these two is not just about money, but also about the level of importance placed on the matter.

As they talked more and more, Qin Nian's face grew paler and paler. She had a premonition that everything was about to change.

Qin Jing realized that Qin Yunie's days at home might not be very easy, so he began to recall the time when Qin Yunie had come to him before. "I remember I had a drama filmed at their school before, right? She seemed to have brought her friend to ask me for an autograph, but I was probably acting with the female lead at the time and didn't pay attention. My assistant probably thought she was a student asking for an autograph, so my assistant asked her to leave on the grounds that it was inconvenient."

He paused, then continued, "I remember I vaguely heard her classmate say: 'Didn't you say Qin Jing is your brother? Why won't his assistant even let me sign an autograph?' When I looked up, I didn't see anyone, so I thought I had misheard. It wasn't until later, when she came to apologize to me and said that she shouldn't have disturbed my filming, that I realized I hadn't misheard."

The more Qin Jing thought about it, the more he realized that what he initially considered a trivial matter must have had a significant impact on Qin Yunie at school at the time.
