Chapter 150 Standoff

Lingbi is located on the western border.

The desert and the wasteland blend together perfectly, but the boundary line can still be clearly distinguished from a distance. The sky is strangely colored, black with a hint of green. Clusters of rain clouds surround the horizon at the edge of the wasteland, and a continuous drizzle is falling.

This is the twentieth year of continuous rain.

This area has long been within a high-radiation zone, making it difficult for humans to set foot in. However, it is not completely covered, and some trails still allow passage between the inside and outside of the area.

On the fortified, massive high wall stood several armored warriors.

They were all over eight feet tall, covered in bio-mechanical organs, with an artificial spine protruding from their backs. They wore black exoskeleton armor, carried rapid-fire rifles, and stood ready for battle.

Only officers can use the Golden Eagle rifle, which boasts superior performance and durability.

Everyone has become accustomed to the continuous rain in the distant radiation zone.

Standing guard atop the wall every day, all I see in front of me is a dark, gloomy, green sky.

"Where are Teams A and B?"

"He went into the country early yesterday morning to carry out his mission."

"Where are you going?"

"How would I know about the royal family's orders?"

Two armored warriors from Squad C stood facing each other on the parapet, looking out at the radiation zone in the distance. Their helmets could block radiation atoms while also displaying war intelligence and information, so they didn't need to be too vigilant when on guard duty. If an enemy appeared outside the wall, the sensors on their helmets could quickly notify the entire squad on duty.

Such a tall wall stretches out in both directions, with only two guards standing guard every five hundred meters.

Guo Jia and Wu Wei were comrades-in-arms who shared a bunk bed. They had encountered alien species from abroad several times and saved each other's lives, thus becoming close friends.

"Why doesn't the captain volunteer? We're never chosen for any domestic missions."

"Don't even think about it. We have no backing. Both the A and B brigades have people in the royal family. The officers are originally from the royal guards and are the prince's direct subordinates."

"Well, serving the royal family inevitably involves being obsequious and working hard without complaint, and who knows, it might involve killing someone again."

"Yes, I could never bring myself to attack my own compatriots."

"There is far more filth inside the country than outside the wall."

The two looked at each other and smiled.

"The western border has been relatively peaceful lately, and there seem to be fewer alien species."

"They're all just a bunch of dull-witted ghouls, how boring."

Ghouls are a common type of mutant, which are human beings who have been mutated after being exposed to radiation. They are incredibly strong and fast, far exceeding the speed of ordinary people, but in the eyes of armored warriors, they are much slower and seem rather dull.

The real enemies are the monsters such as the Claw King, Tyrant, and Fire Owl on the outer edge of the radiation zone.

In general, even emptying a rifle magazine might not be enough to kill someone in such an encounter.

"I heard the newly produced weapons are quite useful; the chainsaw knife can kill the Claw King with a single blow."

"There are also those big guns that explode with no recoil when you fire a single shot. They're incredibly fun to use. Two months ago, Team A encountered more than a dozen Claw Kings ahead and wiped them all out with the incendiary gun."

"Unfortunately, we haven't been allocated such good weapons yet."

"I heard it was a factory built by the prince. They dug up some good stuff in the old world sanctuary underground."

"Is it an inheritance?"

"It should be a new weapon developed using shelter technology and relying on the psionic research institute... Wow, I really want one."

"Hasn't our captain already applied?"

"What a joke. The research institute has been making excuses not to supply them, saying that the output is not high and that they are prioritizing supply to strong teams... You know, there are more psionicists in Team A and Team B."

"Tch, stop talking nonsense. They have plenty of speed and strength-based weapons, while our team has even more amplification-based weapons. We should be the ones getting these new weapons first."

At this point, the two of them suddenly fell silent.

The alarm on my helmet suddenly flashed red!

"Wait! Something's not right."

Guo Jia and Wu Wei's expressions changed, and they stared intently ahead. Suddenly, a flock of eagles appeared in the dark, cloud-covered sky.

They started as tiny black dots and quickly approached the high wall.

When their vision cleared, the two suddenly realized that it was not some kind of alien species, but a human!

"Enemy attack... Enemy attack!"

"Are they foreign raiders?!"

"No...it wasn't them..."

Guo Jia's eyes flashed, his pupils contracted, and the next second, a burst of flames exploded from the direction they were standing in!

boom!

A tremendous explosion rang out, and a huge hole was blown open in the high wall, with debris flying everywhere. Guo Jia and Wu Wei died on the spot.

In the sky, figures streaked across the sky, each carrying the same type of folding backpack. They jumped up from a great distance, leaped down from the air, and began firing at the military district inside the high walls, rifles in their hands!

Da da da da—

A fierce battle broke out in the square!

The officers of C Battalion ran out of the camp, their eyes gleaming with a series of bright blue lights.

"Everyone, assemble!"

Regardless of who they were, the armored soldiers walking in the barracks sprang into action. Their strong sense of collective combat allowed them to quickly prepare for the surprise attack, raising their rifles and firing into the sky!

Sizzle!

A series of loud explosions rang out!

In the distance, the dark green clouds were flashing with blue lightning, like the footsteps of a giant approaching from afar!

boom!

A rumble of thunder exploded in the sky, and a bolt of lightning crashed down, instantly shattering a military camp building and burying countless armored warriors who had not yet assembled beneath it.
