This night was destined to be an extraordinary one.
At Meteor Pool, the door to the penthouse suite was suddenly pushed open, and more than twenty fully armed soldiers rushed in, spreading out to surround the entire room.
An administrator was pushed in, his face pale, and he knelt on the ground, clutching his head, pleading, "Don't kill me...don't kill me! I brought you all here!"
Zhu Ying, who was fast asleep in bed, suddenly woke up, hurriedly got up, and stared intently at the main entrance.
Countless black gun barrels were pointed directly at her.
The administrator was begging for mercy when he was swiftly and cleanly killed with a single stroke.
Lina wiped the blade with the corpse's clothes, then slowly stood up and smiled, "Ms. Zhu Ying, please don't panic, I've brought you a guest."
She gave him a wink.
Zhu Ying, who had been silent, then realized that the entire top-floor corridor was under the control of this group of violent people, and even the area outside the door was full of people.
They pushed a disheveled man into the house.
Zhu Ying's face froze instantly, her pupils contracted sharply, and she dared not move an inch.
Kneeling before her was the Sandcastle Ambassador to the Western Frontier, Chen Xihai.
His face was slashed with multiple wounds, part of his scalp was cut off, and his right ear was missing. It was bandaged but still bleeding.
Such a glamorous and important person, who is usually so glamorous and dignified, is now kneeling before Zhu Ying like a pig or a dog.
Lina smiled and said, "Our guest just had surgery and can't speak yet. Ms. Zhu Ying, you two are old acquaintances, aren't you?"
Zhu Ying frowned and asked, "What are you trying to do?"
At that moment, her mind raced, and she thought of many things in an instant, but it was still a complete mess.
On this board, Zhu Ying is merely a chess piece.
She didn't know much intelligence to begin with, and she always worked for Shen Xihai, monitoring Hong Chen while eliminating potential threats to Shen Xihai.
This ambassador has always been very careful about his reputation.
But Zhu Ying had never intentionally harmed anyone. Tonight, because Hong Chen was kidnapped, she had to stay in the room, pretending that nothing had happened, and wait for Shen Xihai's orders the next day to see if the documents should be transferred, if she should remain inactive, or if other orders would come.
Zhu Ying was prepared, although she still found it hard to sleep that night...
"The documents are in this room. We need your cooperation, but... this isn't the place to talk. Come with us in a bit. Don't worry, we have plenty of time tonight..."
Zhu Ying accepted her fate.
Her husband was already kneeling before her, like a defeated general. What resistance could she possibly offer?
She took the documents out of the safe and handed them to Lina. The next second, Zhu Ying witnessed Shen Xihai being killed. Lina slit his throat with a dagger. The ambassador of a city died right in front of her.
Zhu Ying turned pale with fright. Forcing herself to calm down, she said in a deep voice, "Do you know what you're doing?!"
Lina glanced at her, wiped the blade clean, and smiled as she sheathed the knife.
“Only Shen Xihai knew your identity. Now that he’s dead, you’re no longer his informant.” Lina walked up and said, “Do you want to know where Hong Chen is?”
Zhu Ying bit her lip tightly, her eyes flickering slightly.
Lina said in a deep voice, "Let's go."
So, Zhu Ying was carried out of the corridor by two burly men.
She flung her hand away forcefully, "Let go! I can walk by myself!"
Lina laughed and said, "Tell your people to seal off the entire corridor. No one can set foot on the top floor until this is over."
...
Twenty minutes later.
Zhu Ying met Hong Chen.
“They sent me to see you,” Zhu Ying said calmly.
Hong Chen sneered, utterly disdainful.
Zhu Ying: "I knew before I came that you probably already heard about my identity from them, right?"
Hong Chen squinted at him.
"But the feelings we've had over the years, I assure you, are genuine." Zhu Ying's expression was complicated as she said this. "Will you... forgive me?"
Hong Chen scoffed, "Then let's die together."
Zhu Ying gritted her teeth and said, "Shen Xihai is already dead..."
Hong Chen's expression changed slightly: "What, dead?"
“He died right in front of me, in Meteor Pool, in the place where we often met. The blanket that wrapped his body was the one you bought for me,” Zhu Ying said coldly.
Hong Chen's expression was priceless—a mixture of satisfaction, anger, and contemplation… He simply shouted loudly towards the door, "What exactly do you want! I need to see Qin Che! Let me see him!"
The door was slowly pushed open.
Zhu Ying stepped aside, to Hong Chen's side.
Lina walked in with several subordinates and said calmly, "I have seen your company's confidential documents, as well as the transactions you have made with Chen Xihai and the Xibao military over the years, including ledgers, lists, and warehouse information."
Hong Chen asked, "Where is Qin Che?"
Lina ignored his question and continued, "Do you know that Chen Fusheng has known about your betrayal for three years?"
“…This is impossible!” Hong Chen exclaimed in horror.
"Nothing is impossible. Do you think that Chen Fusheng has been remotely controlling Xibao for many years and that you are the only independent system? Checks and balances are a lesson that every politician must learn and apply."
Hong Chen's expression was complicated: "Then why didn't he kill me?"
Lina pulled up an iron chair and sat down, saying, "Because he knows how to weigh interests. Whether he kills you or not is irrelevant. As long as Sandcastle still has trade relations with Westcastle, what he wants is a stable route and channel."
