Chapter 19 The Late Recipient

"This is my second grandfather's home."

Su Ling opened the gate of the Su family's old house and invited the guests in.

Bai Jincheng stepped over the threshold and walked into the yard. He slowly turned his head and looked at the flowers, grass, trees, bricks and gravel in the yard, tears flashing in his eyes.

The rebuilt Su family house had almost no trace of its past, but he felt a sense of déjà vu.

"Brother Cheng, if we're together in the future, we'll build a small garden to live in, with mountains, rivers, flowers, trees, terraces, pavilions, a pond, raise some koi, and grow some vegetables in the backyard. In our free time, we'll go hiking and paint, and live a leisurely and comfortable life."

Young Su Lan sat on the railing, tilted her head, raised the corners of her mouth, and smiled innocently.

Sixty years have passed, the man is gone, and only this small garden remains for people to remember him.

Bai Jincheng's back seemed to hunch suddenly, and his body swayed slightly. He walked to the edge of the pond and saw the fat koi swimming around in it, and sighed softly.

Su Ling didn't bother him. He moved the newly bought electric motorcycle into the yard and closed the gate.

Just now, under the banyan tree at the entrance of the village, they introduced themselves to each other. Su Ling was surprised for a while when he learned that this old gentleman was Brother Jincheng mentioned in his second grandfather's letter.

The village chief said that he looked like his second grandfather when he was young. Now that he has been mistaken for his second grandfather, it seems that he and his second grandfather really do have some similarities.

"Please come in and sit down first." Su Ling said politely to Bai Jincheng. As for the young man named Wen Xi, he just glanced at him lightly and didn't pay much attention.

He wasn't a wooden man, so he couldn't sense the fleeting disdain the young man had when he saw him. As the young master of the Su family, Su Ling had come into contact with all kinds of wealthy young masters with strange personalities. They always had an inexplicable sense of superiority, liked to look down on others, and were dismissive of those who were lesser than them in status.

Perhaps because there were elders around him, the boy quickly concealed his emotions, but it did not prevent Su Ling from having a bad impression of him.

Wen Xi couldn't help but feel surprised the moment he stepped into the garden.

He thought the country folk his grandfather was visiting wouldn't live in a good place, but to his surprise, he found such an elegant manor. It was large, classically designed, beautiful, and had fresh air. Living there was simply a pleasure.

"There have been huge changes here." Bai Jincheng followed Su Ling into the hall of the house. Suddenly, a "woof woof" scared him, and Wen Xi hurried forward to support him.

"King, be quiet." Su Ling scolded the little thing.

King slept in the doghouse all afternoon. He woke up when he heard some noise, opened his eyes and saw a stranger, and naturally he barked.

Su Ling picked up the little thing, comforted it, and said to Bai Jincheng apologetically: "Sorry, the little one is shy."

Bai Jincheng smiled kindly and said, "The little fellow is very good, loyal and protective of his master. He is worthy of being our Country Z's pastoral dog."

Su Ling put King down and let him play on his own. "I'm going upstairs to change my clothes and will be down soon. Please wait a moment."

Bai Jincheng said indifferently: "The guest should follow the host's wishes."

When Su Ling went upstairs, only the grandfather and grandson were left in the living room, along with a small local dog. The small local dog squatted upright, staring at the stranger with vigilant eyes.

Wen Xi sat on a mahogany chair and looked around the living room. The living room was decorated in a simple yet stylish way. The blue and white porcelain vase placed in the corner was warm in color and beautiful in shape, exuding an antique atmosphere and attracting attention.

Bai Jincheng stood up and walked to the blue and white porcelain, saying nostalgically, "This late Qing Dynasty blue and white porcelain vase was originally a pair."

"Late Qing Dynasty?" Wen Xi was surprised. "Is it authentic?"

There are real antiques in a rural person’s home?

Bai Jincheng glanced at his grandson and said, "Do you think the Su family is an ordinary family? Hundreds of years ago, they held official positions, but only fell into decline during the early Republic of China. Not to mention the blue and white porcelain, even this set of mahogany chairs, the screen, and the four paintings of plum, orchid, bamboo, and chrysanthemum on the wall are antiques."

Wen Xi was shocked.

It turns out that my grandfather’s old friend is a hidden rich man!

Why had I never heard my grandfather mention it before? Now that he was old, why did he insist on returning to Country Z to visit his relatives?

Wen Xi lowered his eyes and couldn't help thinking.

About ten minutes later, someone came down from upstairs. Wen Xi couldn't help but look up at the handsome young man who came out from behind the screen.

Thick and delicate curly hair falls naturally on the shoulders, with bangs combed back, revealing a smooth and full forehead, two delicate eyebrows flying into the temples, a pair of affectionate peach blossom eyes, shimmering watery eyes, skin as delicate as white porcelain, perfect flawless facial contours, natural facial features, paired with the exquisitely tailored royal blue suit on his body, he looks like a nobleman who has walked out of a painting, and his every move is full of elegance.

Wen Xi's pupils shrank slightly, and he stared blankly at Su Ling as he walked into the living room. His heart was beating so fast, as if something was taking root.

Su Ling rarely received guests. Whether at the Su family or at the Xiangyan Mountain Villa in S City, he had no experience entertaining guests. So, since he had a guest at home today, he couldn't be careless. He went upstairs to change into a decent suit, washed his face, applied some cream, and gave his hair a quick style. The advantage of naturally curly hair is that you can create any hairstyle you like with just a spray of gel.

Seeing Su Ling like this, Bai Jincheng sighed sincerely. Su Lan's grandson was indeed a rare talent.

King was jumping happily at his owner's feet, wagging his tail from time to time. Normally, Su Ling would have bent down to hug him, but not today because there were guests.

He went to the kitchen to make a pot of tea, brought it to the living room, and placed it on the coffee table. He took out a set of white porcelain cups, washed them with tea, picked up the teapot, and poured out the green tea. A wisp of fragrance floated in the air, which made people feel refreshed and relaxed.

"This is the newly brewed Rain Dew Tea this year. Please try it and see if you like it." Su Ling held the white porcelain cup and gently placed it on the coffee table next to Bai Jincheng.

"Rain and dew tea? Is it actually rain and dew tea?" Bai Jincheng picked up the white porcelain cup, closed his eyes slightly, and sniffed the tea fragrance with nostalgia. After a while, he lowered his head and took a sip. The sweet and refreshing taste lingered between his lips and teeth.

Su Ling brought tea to Wen Xi again. Wen Xi was flattered and said, "Thank you."

"You're welcome." Su Ling put down the teacup calmly.

Wen Xi's eyes were drawn to his bony fingers, and the diamond ring on his left hand caught his eye. He was startled and subconsciously asked, "Your ring..."

"Why?" Lidya Su showed his left hand and said politely, "This is a wedding ring."

Wedding ring?

Wen Xi was astonished. If he was not mistaken, this ring was exactly the same as the one on President Lin Feng's hand!

Is there such a coincidence in the world? Someone actually ordered the same style of wedding ring.

etc--

The bud that had just sprouted in Wenxi's heart was suddenly hit. He opened his mouth and asked, "Are you married?"

"Yes." Su Ling raised his eyebrows. Wearing a wedding ring, of course he was married. Why did the boy look so lost?

After getting a positive answer, Wen Xi picked up the white porcelain cup as if to conceal his feelings and lowered his head to drink tea.

Su Ling sat back in his original seat, letting King cling to his feet while chatting with Bai Jincheng.

"...You call Su Lan second grandpa?" Bai Jincheng asked.

"Yes, I received a call from my lawyer over a month ago, informing me that Second Grandfather had passed away and that I was designated as the heir." Su Ling didn't hide anything and simply explained the inheritance. "Before that, Second Grandfather and I had only met once. After coming here and sorting through his belongings, I slowly got to know him better. He... never married, and he guarded the Su family mansion alone his entire life."

Bai Jincheng's white porcelain cup shook, and the tea splashed onto his fingers. The tea was scalding hot, but he was oblivious and muttered, "He...isn't he married either?"

Su Ling's ears were sharp, and he heard the word "also". He asked tentatively: "Excuse me, did Mr. Bai not bring his wife back with him this time?"

Bai Jincheng put down his teacup, glanced at Wen Xi and said, "I'm not married, so naturally I don't have a wife. Wen Xi's father is my eldest brother's son."

"Ah, I see." After getting the answer he wanted, Su Ling clasped his slender fingers together and said in a low voice, "Among my second grandfather's relics, there is one item that I think... would be more appropriate to give to you."

A hint of excitement flashed across Bai Jincheng's face.

Wenxi pursed his lips and frowned. When he was little, he thought his grandfather missed out on marriage because he was obsessed with painting. Now, listening to him talking with his old friend's grandson, he felt something was wrong.

Two good friends who grew up together separated when they were young. Sixty years have passed, and they have never married or had children.

What does this mean?

The answer is almost obvious.

Su Ling stood up and took Bai Jincheng into the study next door. Wen Xi followed them and looked up.

The study was furnished in the same understated luxury as the living room. The painting "The Highest Good is Like Water" hanging on the wall caught Wen Xi's eye. It was a wild cursive painting, full of flying dragons and phoenixes, at once real and empty, unrestrained and free. Without twenty years of practice, such beautiful calligraphy could never be achieved.

Who wrote it?

Wen Xi looked at the signature curiously and found a red seal with "Su Ling" on it.

Su Ling!

Wen Xi suddenly turned his head and looked at the young man standing in front of the cabinet and carrying out a wooden box.

He started practicing calligraphy at the age of seven, and is now nineteen, having practiced for twelve years. However, he is still regarded as a beginner. Su Ling looks to be in his early twenties, so how can he write such sophisticated characters?

Is this true talent?

A strong sense of jealousy arose.

Bai Jincheng also noticed the cursive writing on the wall and asked Su Ling with admiration: "Did you write this?"

Su Ling placed the box on the desk and said modestly, "I saw that the wall was empty, so I just wrote a picture. I'm sorry to bother you."

Bai Jincheng said: "Cursive calligraphy requires momentum. Your casualness is a talent that others can never obtain in their lifetime."

Being praised, Su Ling did not hesitate and said generously: "Thank you for the compliment."

Because of Su Lan, Bai Jin looked at Su Ling with more kindness and gentleness, and this scene was particularly glaring in Wen Xi's eyes.

Grandfather...could it be...

Wimsey clenched his fist unconsciously.

Su Ling opened the lid of the wooden box and said to Bai Jincheng, "This is the relic I gave to you on behalf of my second grandfather..."

Bai Jincheng was shocked to see the box full of letters. After a while, he slowly reached out and picked up a letter. There was no recipient's address and name on the envelope, only the sender's address and name, as well as the time the letter was written.

Su Lan——

Is this the letter that Su Lan didn't send?

Bai Jincheng pulled out the letter paper tremblingly and slowly unfolded it. The neat and beautiful handwriting immediately caught his eye.

"Brother Jincheng, good to hear from you... You said you would write to me, and I've been waiting for half a year, but I haven't received any letter from you. I couldn't help but write to you first. When I receive your letter in the future and have your new address, I will send it to you together..."

This is the tone of an innocent boy, and the words are full of liveliness. He writes whatever he thinks of, and what he writes most is his longing for the person he admires.

The author has something to say: The next chapter is the V chapter~~ Actually, I originally wanted to make the final free chapter more engaging, ideally featuring Ling Bao selling vegetables live, or being discovered and found by Lin Feng. But plans couldn't keep up, and I didn't even get to that point. So, that content... is all after the V chapter. (I don't know if you're still interested in following along, so... let it be. 5555 I really tried my best.)

I never expected that after I wrote 70,000 words, the top and bottom scenes haven't even started yet. I'm covering my face.

In fact, I am also looking forward to their rivalry after they meet. It will definitely be quite "passionate", everyone understands it, right?

Why do we write about the second grandfather's feelings here? Because it will give Su Ling a lot of insights and let him learn something from it, as well as better ways to deal with emotions.

As for the question everyone has been asking about, what exactly is Wen Xi? Well, of course, she exists to slap people in the face.
