Chapter 11

When Grandma Jiang saw Father Jiang coming back, she couldn't hold back any more. "You're back from the conference? How was it? It must have been tough. The teacher must have pulled you up on stage to give a presentation again."

There were quite a few people in the store at this time, and Grandma Jiang spoke loudly, with no intention of avoiding the customers at all.

"There are still people in the store." Grandpa Jiang was wiping the table. Seeing that Grandma Jiang was about to continue talking, he spoke.

"What's wrong with someone? Someone doesn't allow me to chat with my son?" Grandma Jiang rolled her eyes. "How did that damn girl do in the exam this time? She must be one of the last few."

When the customers in the store heard this, they all glanced at Jiang Jiang, knowing that Grandma Jiang was talking about Jiang Jiang. They had never thought that this young boss had such poor performance, and some even looked down on him.

Grandma Jiang's mouth was as fast as firecrackers. Before Father Jiang could even open his mouth, she said everything.

Father Jiang no longer gave her a chance to perform and quickly spoke.

"Boss has won glory this time!"

The customers in the store immediately looked at Jiang's father. How could a person who ranked last in the exam win such honor?

Even Grandpa Jiang couldn't help but look at Father Jiang after hearing this.

"The eldest daughter got full marks in math this time! She was the only one in the whole grade! Their head teacher praised her highly in front of all the parents! He said that the eldest daughter's hard work this week paid off!"

Father Jiang announced in a loud voice, his face flushed red, and anyone could see how proud he was at this moment.

"How is this possible? That damn girl is not good at studying, how could she get full marks in the exam?" Grandma Jiang couldn't believe it.

"It's true. Their class teacher said that the eldest daughter has finally come to her senses. I think so too. I never saw her like studying so much before. How come she suddenly said she wanted to study hard a while ago? She must have finally come to her senses!"

Father Jiang had a smile on his face. As he spoke, he looked towards Jiang Jiang, with a look of pride he had never seen before.

Jiang Jiang looked at her father and quickly lowered her head, her eyes a little warm. After she entered junior high school, Jiang's father never looked at her like this again.

"Other teachers also said that the eldest child's grades in all subjects have improved. In addition to mathematics, his Chinese grades have also improved a lot! There are so many students, but the teacher singled out the eldest child and asked me to share my experience with other parents. I didn't know how to explain it, so I just said that the eldest child relied on his own awareness!"

When Jiang's father thought of the scene at that time, his heart was filled with warmth. He himself had only been in school for two years, and he had always been in awe of the school and the teachers. When the teacher praised Jiang Jiang, he felt as if he was being praised.

There are three children in the family. Jiang Jiang's grades are not good. The twins' grades are not bad, but not great either. He has never been treated like this by a teacher before.

"The parents came to ask me how the eldest child improved his math grades in just one week. I told them that he studied hard. Last week, he was reading books every day! The parents said that their own children were not so self-aware. I told them that I never cared about my children. They relied on themselves!"

After listening to what Jiang's father said, the guests looked at Jiang Jiang with admiration again.

"Boss Jiang, your daughter will definitely do great things in the future. She is so self-conscious at such a young age!"

"It's not that easy to get a perfect score in math. Your child is amazing!"

A guest said to Jiang's father.

"This time the test was particularly difficult, and she was the only one in the whole school who got full marks!" As he said this, Jiang's father's face was wrinkled with smile.

Jiang Jiang stood at the cashier counter, listening to Jiang's father's powerful voice. He felt particularly happy and the corners of his mouth curled up unconsciously.

Mother Jiang, who was working in the kitchen, had not shown up yet. When she heard what Father Jiang said, she felt that it was a little unreal.

How could Jiang Jiang still get full marks? Could it be that they really delayed Jiang Jiang's study in the past?

"How is it possible? How could this damn girl get full marks and be the first in the school? I'm afraid she must have cheated!"

Grandma Jiang suddenly spoke up. How could that stupid girl Jiang Jiang get full marks in the exam?

Father Jiang immediately became unhappy, and the smile on his face faded a little. "The head teacher said that she passed the exam based on her real ability! Now she gets full marks every time!"

As he spoke of the latter part, he could not help but smile again. Actually, he did not believe it at first.

After saying that, Jiang's father walked over and patted Jiang Jiang on the shoulder, "Your class teacher said that if you keep working hard like this, you will definitely be able to get into a good high school, maybe even No. 2 Middle School!"

No. 2 High School is the best high school in Linjiang City!

Father Jiang was still talking about what he had seen and heard at the parents' meeting, and the customers in the store followed suit and flattered him.

Only Grandma Jiang had a gloomy face and looked extremely unhappy. How could that stupid girl Jiang Jiang get a good grade in the exam!

Jiang Jiang had not been in the store for a while before her father sent her back home. The head teacher said that there was only a month left before the high school entrance exam and Jiang Jiang's time was precious, so she must not be allowed to continue helping out in the store.

Jiang Jiang did not refuse and walked home with brisk steps.

She didn't go to the store again until it was time for dinner.

Jiang Jiang glanced at the dishes on the table. Finally, they were not all seafood. There were a few brined dishes, which must have been bought by Jiang's father.

Father Jiang gave Jiang Jiang a piece of roast duck.

Seeing this, Grandma Jiang muttered quietly, "I'm really worried that she won't know how to eat."

The people at the table heard it but pretended not to hear it.

"Your teacher said that you only eat steamed buns at school every day? You are under a lot of pressure from studying, so you should eat better. I see that you have lost weight. I heard that the food in your cafeteria is good. You should go to the cafeteria to eat from now on."

"No money." Jiang Jiang took a bite of the roast duck and replied in a low voice.

Jiang's father froze in his tracks. He looked at Jiang's mother and asked, "You didn't give her money?"

Jiang's mother stopped eating rice and asked, "You didn't give me any?"

"I thought you did."

"I thought you would give it to me."

The two stared at each other, and each saw the guilt in the other's eyes.

"I'll get it for you. Go to school on Monday to apply for a meal card." As he said that, Jiang's father went to the cashier and took out three hundred yuan for Jiang Jiang.

"Why does it cost so much to eat in the cafeteria? Isn't it enough to just give her a hundred yuan?" Grandma Jiang shouted immediately when she saw Father Jiang took out three big red bills.

"Two hundred yuan for food, and the remaining one hundred yuan is pocket money for books and pens." Jiang's father explained, and then reminded Jiang Jiang, "Don't spend it recklessly."

Jiang Jiang nodded and took it.

After receiving the money, Jiang Jiang felt an indescribable feeling in his heart. He was happy, but more sad. The happiness he had felt because of his parents' attention was no longer as strong as before.

After dinner, Grandma Jiang and Grandpa Jiang took the twins home as usual, and Jiang Jiang stayed to wash the dishes as usual.

"Go back and study first. You don't have to wash the dishes." Jiang's father was brainwashed by the class teacher today. The teacher said that time was tight and asked Jiang's father to assign less work to Jiang Jiang these days.

Before, Jiang Jiang’s grades were not good, and they thought it was useless for Jiang Jiang to study. Now that Jiang Jiang’s grades are good, they want Jiang Jiang to continue studying and bring honor to their family.

"Let me wash it. It won't take much time." As he said that, Jiang Jiang had already cleared all the dishes on the table and took them to the kitchen to wash.

Father Jiang stopped trying to stop her when he saw this. "Hey, Mom always says that the eldest daughter is ignorant and uncaring. I think she is very caring."

Mother Jiang remained silent.

Before Jiang Jiang finished washing the dishes, Grandma Jiang rushed back to the store.

Father Jiang was surprised, "Mom, why are you here?"

Grandma Jiang sneered, "Do you know who I just bumped into? Li Xiaoxuan's grandmother! Do you know what her grandmother said? She said that the damn girl got full marks by cheating! It was her daughter Li Xiaoxuan who told her that herself!"

After saying this, Grandma Jiang looked at Father Jiang proudly, waiting for his reply.

Father Jiang frowned, "Mom, don't make a fuss. Doesn't their class teacher know whether the eldest child cheated? Li Xiaoxuan didn't do as well as the eldest child in the math test this time, so her grandmother said that, and you really believed it."

"Li Xiaoxuan's grandmother said that Li Xiaoxuan was tutoring that dead girl a while ago, and even Li Xiaoxuan didn't get a perfect score, so how could that dead girl possibly get a perfect score? With just one week, how could she get a perfect score with that brain of hers?"

"Enough! You keep calling me a dead girl. Then what are you? A dead old lady?" Mother Jiang, who had been silent the whole time, shouted at Grandma Jiang.

"Why can't I shout?" Grandma Jiang raised her head and glared at Jiang's mother, then quickly looked at Jiang's father with a pout, "Look at what a good wife you married, you cursed me to death! I said she was cruel and didn't want her to marry into my family, but you didn't believe me! Now she's bullying our family!"

Mother Jiang was so angry at Grandma Jiang's words that her chest heaved violently. Is she cruel? If she was cruel, she would have kicked this old lady out long ago!

Father Jiang, standing in the middle, felt a little awkward. On one side was his wife, and on the other was his old mother, and he couldn't afford to offend either of them.

"Mom, don't call me boss. It's not nice for the little girl." Finally, Father Jiang stood on Mother Jiang's side.

Now it was Grandma Jiang's turn to be gasping for breath in anger.

"What's the point of me raising a son like you? I wash and cook for you every day, and your wife scolds me, and you still speak for her! Your daughter talks back at me, and I call her a dead girl, so what?"

Father Jiang's face wrinkled up. He held onto Grandma Jiang, trying to calm her down, but Grandma Jiang shook his hand off. "Are you going to make an old man like me die of anger?"

"Mom!" Father Jiang shouted in a long voice. After all, she was his biological mother, and seeing her like this, Father Jiang couldn't bear it, but asking Mother Jiang and Grandma Jiang to apologize and give in was even more impossible.

"Boss, come here." Father Jiang suddenly shouted to the kitchen.

Jiang Jiang, who was washing dishes, put down the dishes when he heard this, wiped his hands with a towel, and then lifted the curtain to go out.

Jiang Jiang heard clearly what the three said. She couldn't understand why Li Xiaoxuan's grandmother accused her of cheating, and why Grandma Jiang couldn't bear to see her granddaughter do well.

Seeing Jiang Jiang coming over, Jiang's father waved his hands and said, "Apologize to your grandma. You shouldn't have talked back to her that day."

Jiang Jiang raised his head, thinking he had heard wrongly.

"I apologize?"

"Yes, apologize, quickly!"
