Chapter 24: Lying? Cast a net! When you stare into the abyss, the abyss...

Artemantis gave a gesture, and this well-trained team acted quickly and silently, quickly taking control of the entire train.

They followed their superior's instructions and carefully searched every inch of the corner. Artemantis meticulously monitored and patrolled from the rear, and finally locked his eyes on an ordinary carriage.

There were also many relatively intact corpses lying here, but strangely, almost all of them were sub-females. The only pirate corpse had been eaten away so badly that only a skeleton remained. The sight of such a tragic scene sent a chill down the spine of even the military female.

"One-Eye is dead?"

The military female beside Artemantis quipped in amazement, "And he was gnawed to pieces by a sub-female?!"

In the Zerg world, it is very common for the loser to be eaten by the winner, but this usually happens between female Zergs. Military females are at the top of the food chain, and it is almost impossible for them to be eaten by sub-females.

He carefully examined the empty eye sockets on the female insect's unrecognizable corpse, occasionally glancing at his superior. Finally, Bernie Byron couldn't help but shake his head and said with a tut-tut sound:

"Now both eyes are gone—I might as well have died in that last clearing operation. Being a ghost under the Director's claws is better than being eaten by a sub-female. At least I won't be embarrassed by the pirates."

Artemantis ignored his subordinate's words. He signaled a team member to prepare for protection: "Check the digestive tract."

The female soldier who received the order neatly dug open the throat of a corpse, then rummaged around with tools for a while, and accurately picked out a piece of black and pink meat from the mucus.

Seeing this scene, Artemanthys frowned hard, and a sharp light flashed in his emerald green eyes. His guess in his heart was confirmed - there must be an extraordinary guy here.

"Take it for testing, and have the military doctor collect and autopsy all the bodies in this carriage."

After saying this, the senior military female sighed in her heart, clapped her hands lightly, and then stood up neatly.

After giving the order, Artemantis turned around without hesitation and strode towards the safe zone. Judging from his posture, he was obviously going to inspect the Zerg who survived the disaster.

"Director Hall, Mr. Miller's whereabouts are still unknown!"

The special envoy was so anxious that he couldn't help but speak again. Under Artemantis's oppressive gaze, he could only whisper a warning, "Shouldn't you lead the other insects first..."

"I'm sorry, but the Nest Clearance Department's duty is to eliminate any destabilizing factors for the colony," Artemantis interrupted him bluntly, without a trace of hesitation. "Other departments will be responsible for the safety of the male insects. I won't abandon my post."

"Your Excellency is the most precious being in the empire! You—"

"The duty of the special envoy is to supervise." Artemanthys slowly turned his head and stared indifferently at the furious female insect in front of him. His sparkling green eyes were like a snake-like water monster hidden under the bottomless icy lake, flashing with a gorgeous and cold light.

"With all due respect, it would be best if you could just use your eyes and—keep your mouth shut."

Under the dim light of the interrogation room, the entire space was filled with a depressing and dull atmosphere.

A group of sub-females huddled on the bench, their eyes full of helplessness and confusion. Their bodies were curled up tightly in the corner, as if this could minimize their presence.

The vast majority of the insects were severely injured and were quickly transferred to recovery dishes for emergency treatment. The female insects suffered heavy casualties in this disaster, but fortunately, they were very resilient and had a good chance of survival as long as they were still breathing. However, the sub-females were not so lucky and faced only life or death.

There are a few rare sub-female survivors in this interrogation room. They look so bleak and weak, just like the fallen leaves that have survived the storm and are left on the branches.

Gu Zheyue mingled among them, disguising himself as an ordinary Zerg who had lost his soul due to extreme fright.

He squatted on the ground, his arms tightly wrapped around his calves, his fingertips turning white from blood loss from the excessive force. Yamu buried her face deeply between her knees, her shoulder-length hair, as dark as the night, falling like a curtain, just enough to cover his tired and weak face.

This was the second time Gu Zheyue had used his mental power at such a high intensity. He closed his eyes to soothe the throbbing pain in his mental sea, and then quietly monitored the situation outside through the jellyfish tentacles.

He "saw" the female guard bow respectfully to a senior officer and report briefly and in a low voice, "Director, all the insects that can still speak are here."

"Separate them and record their statements one by one." The figure with a wasp waist and a monkey back stood in front of the one-way glass. The expression on his face was difficult to understand, but his jade-like eyes were as eye-catching as the aurora.

The female soldier observed silently for a long time, and finally fixed her eyes on a corner: "Interrogate the one with the blue insect pattern."

Hearing this, the little jellyfish's umbrella trembled violently, and it subconsciously retracted its tentacles slightly.

Not long after, a female soldier walked into the interrogation room. She didn't say anything extra, but just made a gesture in the direction of Gu Zheyue, asking him to go to the single room next door for interrogation.

[Host…] The system’s heart almost jumped out of its throat, and he felt inexplicably uneasy.

Don’t worry—Gu Zheyue comforted calmly in his mind.

Aside from the blatant use of his mental tentacles to kill the first pirate, all other actions were carried out in secret. As for the witness in that carriage... could a beast without fear control its rage and appetite?

Gu Zheyue was absolutely confident that he would not expose the matter, so he did not choose to leave the crime scene after the incident, but instead mixed in with the group of survivors.

The blue-haired sub-female lowered her head, following him like a frightened quail. He entered the room very obediently and walked towards the interrogation chair behind the table.

The female soldier who led the way closed the door neatly. The crisp sound of locking echoed in the silent space, like a death knell in the female soldier's heart.

The layout of the room is very spacious and simple, with the pale walls forming a sharp contrast with the black tables and chairs.

In this extreme black and white, the Asian female fidgeted with a look of fear, her ocean-blue eyelashes trembling. He tried to find a glimmer of comfort in this room, but all he saw were the abrupt walls, like blank faces, emitting an icy aura.

Time seemed to become extremely long in this depressing space. After an unknown amount of time, Gu Zheyue finally heard clear footsteps coming from outside the door, again and again, like an invisible finger gently tapping on his psychological defenses.

The door made a slight "click" sound, like the groan of a broken bone, and a crane-like mantis-like figure approached the interrogation chair step by step.

As the sound of people sitting down rang out, the first interrogation order finally came out from the room:

"Name."

The pink-haired female soldier suddenly spoke, her voice like a sudden thunder in the middle of the night, breaking the original silence without any warning.

Gu Zheyue's heart suddenly tightened. He silently and quickly withdrew his spiritual tentacles that were secretly spying on him. His movements were as fast as lightning.

"Saint, Saint Zachary, Saint Zachary Field..."

"Species, gender."

"Blue Damselfly—sub-female..."

Yaci's voice was as thin as a mosquito's, but even the trembling was particularly obvious in the quiet interrogation room. His missed breath caused clearly visible ripples in the air.

After an unknown amount of time, Artemantis stopped asking questions and simply observed. The air once again fell into a dead silence.

He had been observing it for a long time outside the one-way glass. The insect looked extremely fragile and cowardly, with every move flawless. However, the instinct honed by the female soldier through life and death kept giving her crazy warnings.

It felt like countless cold and sticky tentacles were slowly crawling between the exposed insect armor, making him feel uncomfortable all over, and every pore was shouting out danger.

"You're lying."

Artemantis' voice was calm and even, like a bottomless lake. He was not asking a question, but stating a conclusion.

The insect before him seemed terrified, its teeth chattering slightly. He shook his head slightly in panic, and moisture quickly gathered in his deep blue eyes, brewing misty tears as he blinked, like a cornflower covered in dew in the morning, full of pitiful helplessness.

The sub-female's face was completely bloodless from fear, like a pale sheet of paper. The insect patterns on her neck, once vibrant in color, had lost all their vitality, appearing dull and lifeless.

However, Artemanthys felt more and more that he was being watched by a strange and unknown existence. A chill involuntarily surged up from his back, and he almost revealed his insect armor to ward off the enemy as if in response to stress.

The female soldier calmed herself down and said decisively, "Mr. Field, I'm sorry."

Before he finished speaking, Artemantis suddenly stood up and moved closer. He grabbed Gu Zheyue's shoulders, and the muscles on his slender arms tensed instantly.

Then he tugged upwards with all his might, as if he were lifting some defenseless baby animal. The female soldier said without hesitation, "This is a routine search. Please cooperate."

The sub-female in his hand only made a faint buzzing sound, and the sound was full of fear. He didn't have time to react at all before he was quickly pressed down on the table.

With a "bang", Gu Zheyue's thin body made a heavy sound when it collided closely with the table. His groan of pain echoed in the quiet interrogation room, like some kind of ominous omen.

However, Artemanthys, who was fully focused on performing his official duties, did not notice the change in the atmosphere. He clamped Gu Zheyue's upper limbs tightly to the side of his body with his right hand, and his left hand clearly targeted the tail vertebrae of the insect under him.
