Chapter 35 Sent to the Emergency Room

Chapter 35 Sent to the Emergency Room

On the other side of the city.

The Michelin-starred restaurant was filled with the romantic atmosphere of flickering candlelight.

Gu Yuncong was enjoying a candlelight dinner with An Rui.

The two chatted sweetly, exchanging words back and forth.

An unexpected change occurred.

Gu Yuncong felt a burst of pain in his head, as if an invisible hand was tightly squeezing his brain.

His face turned ashen, and large beads of sweat rolled down his forehead.

An Rui, who had been all smiles, looked horrified when she saw Gu Yuncong's unusual expression. "Yuncong, what's wrong?"

Gu Yuncong forced a smile, trying to comfort An Rui.

But he felt an itch and wetness on his face.

When I reached out and touched it, warm liquid was flowing down my face.

He subconsciously looked at the clear floor-to-ceiling window beside him, where his face was reflected.

Blood was flowing from Gu Yuncong's eyes and nostrils.

His once handsome face became hideous and terrifying, like a vengeful ghost bleeding from all seven orifices in a horror movie.

Just as Gu Yuncong was about to speak, a mouthful of metallic sweetness welled up in his throat.

He could no longer hold back and spat out a mouthful of black blood, which landed all over An Rui's face.

An Rui screamed in fright, shattering the tranquility of the restaurant.

The other diners in the restaurant cast bewildered or frightened glances, plunging the entire restaurant into chaos.

An Rui looked panicked as she stared at Gu Yuncong, who was rolling on the ground with blood all over his face. She felt as if her backbone had been ripped out, and she was completely at a loss.

With the help of the restaurant staff, An Rui finally came to her senses and hurriedly pulled out her phone to dial the emergency number.

A short while later, the ambulance arrived with sirens blaring.

Medical staff quickly lifted Gu Yuncong into the car and sped towards Yihe Hospital.

Inside the hospital, the emergency room lights came on, their glaring red standing out starkly against the dimly lit corridor.

An Rui paced back and forth outside the emergency room, her eyes filled with anxiety.

She would glance at the emergency room door every now and then, as if that would make the door open faster and let her know Gu Yuncong's condition.

Gu Yuncong's secretary rushed over.

His expression was solemn. He looked at the scene before him and said softly, "I'll go and inform Miss Gu Jing."

"Gu Jing?"

Upon hearing this name, An Rui realized that she had forgotten something crucial.

To outsiders, she has always tried to cultivate an image of a kind and considerate stepmother.

But at this moment, with Gu Yuncong admitted to the hospital, she completely forgot to inform his only daughter.

This is undoubtedly a serious dereliction of duty.

Deep down, she simply couldn't bring herself to treat Gu Jing as her own daughter.

Whenever she saw Gu Jing's face, which bore a striking resemblance to Ye Zhirou's, she would be reminded of the past.

Ye Zhirou, the woman who used to look down on me with eyes that looked like trash.

She will never forget that humiliation.

An Rui gave an awkward, dry laugh, trying to cover up her embarrassment.

"Look at me, I was so anxious that I forgot about this. Secretary Lin, let me inform Xiao Jing."

An Rui took out her phone and dialed Gu Jing's number.

The phone rang for a long time before Gu Jing's voice came through, stiff and cold, completely different from her usual politeness.

"Is there something you need?"

"Xiao Jing, your father suddenly fell ill and was taken to the hospital. We are at Yihe Hospital."

Contrary to An Rui's expectations of Gu Jing's anxious reaction, there was a long silence on the other end of the phone.

Gu Jing said casually, "Oh, really?"

For some reason, An Rui detected a hint of a smile in those brief words.

A strange unease welled up inside her.

"I'll come to the hospital to see him tomorrow."

Gu Jing finished speaking casually and hung up the phone decisively.

...

The next morning, An Rui stood at the door of the doctor's office.

Clutching the newly received diagnosis report tightly in her hand, she couldn't help but scream:

"Acute meningitis?"

The sound echoed down the corridor, drawing the attention of those around them.

How could it be this disease?

It doesn't matter what kind of illness it is, except that it's the same illness Ye Zhirou had back then!

A strong sense of foreboding enveloped An Rui.

She was invited into the ward by the nurse.

Looking at Gu Yuncong, who was fast asleep on the bed, she felt a chill run down her spine.

Gu Yuncong was pale, his lips were chapped, and he looked ten years older.

An Rui shivered, feeling a sudden, inexplicable panic that made it hard to breathe.

At this moment, the nurse politely approached and said softly, "Ms. An, please pay the emergency bill so we can arrange the next steps of treatment."

"well……"

An Rui hurriedly agreed and staggered to the payment counter.

She took out the credit card that Gu Yuncong had given her, and with a slight tremor, handed it to the staff member.

After a while, the staff member looked at her with a troubled expression and said, "This card can't be swiped."

"How could that be? Look closely, this is a black card from Peony Bank! Do you know what the credit limit is?"

An Rui couldn't believe her ears, and her voice unconsciously rose a few decibels.

"I don't know, all I know is that I can't get a single penny out of the account."

The staff were so polite it was infuriating.

"you!"

An Rui was so angry that her face turned red, but she was helpless.

She had no choice but to rummage through her bag again.

She changed several cards in a row, all of which were given to her by Gu Yuncong.

However, without exception, not a single one could be swiped.

Under the questioning gazes of the staff, An Rui became angry and embarrassed, her forehead covered in sweat and her back soaked with sweat.

She had a vague feeling that something was wrong.

She was utterly humiliated, and at that moment she didn't care about anything else. She hurriedly called Gu Jing, "Xiao Jing, why haven't you come yet? Your father's cards are having problems for some reason and he can't pay the bills. Xiao Jing, please come over quickly."

Upon hearing this, Gu Jing feigned surprise and said, "My dad's card can't be used? Aunt Anrui, you must have some savings over the years, right? Could you lend it to my dad first?"

Upon hearing this, An Rui's face turned pale and then red.

She had no savings and had been supported by Gu Yuncong all these years.

I send any money I have back to my parents in my hometown.

She hesitated, then stammered, "Xiao Jing, I just invested my money and can't get it out right now."

Gu Jing chuckled softly, then changed the subject, asking, "Have you figured out what's really going on with my father?"

An Rui stammered, "Your father's condition is quite serious... he actually has meningitis too."

"meningitis?"

An Rui heard a voice both behind her and on the phone at the same time.

That was Gu Jing's mocking voice.

An Rui turned around in surprise and found Gu Jing standing behind her, holding a phone.

Suddenly, An Rui's pupils contracted sharply!

Gu Jing pushed a wheelchair, in which sat someone she never wanted to see again in her life.

—Ye Zhirou!

An Rui felt a buzzing sound, and her mind went completely blank.
