Chapter 21 The Lu Family

Chapter 21 The Lu Family

Lu Jianhong frowned slightly.

He gestured to Xie Yutong to wait a moment, his face apologetic, and said softly, "I'm going to take this call."

Xie Yutong smiled and nodded, watching Lu Jianhong turn away.

Lu Jianhong entered the study, closed the door, and shut out the noise from the outside world.

He pressed the answer button and politely said, "Hello."

A serious voice came from the other end of the phone: "Hello, this is the Qingyun District Police Station of Liguang City. We have the results of our investigation into the incident where your daughter was almost assaulted."

Upon hearing this, Lu Jianhong was completely stunned.

When he heard the keywords "daughter was assaulted," his heart sank, and a strong sense of unease and anger surged into his heart.

He was a seasoned businessman after all, and he quickly calmed down.

Lu Kangning was always under his watchful eye and was protected meticulously.

She was laughing carefree downstairs at that moment, how could she have encountered such a thing?

Lu Jianhong couldn't help but sneer, convinced that the caller was a despicable scammer.

Someone actually dared to use his daughter to commit fraud; this simply crossed his bottom line!

He suppressed his anger and said in a deep voice, "If you dare to call again, I'm calling the police!"

The police officer on the other end of the phone was completely bewildered by the sudden outburst, looking utterly confused: "???"

Lu Jianhong grew angrier and angrier, and shouted, "My daughter is perfectly fine! You're cursing her!"

The police officer then realized it might be a misunderstanding and quickly explained, "Excuse me, are you Mr. Lu Jianhong?"

Lu Jianhong replied impatiently, "Yes, I am."

The police officer continued, "Then that's it, Mr. Lu. We contacted you through the number you left at the Fifth Mental Hospital."

"The Fifth Mental Hospital..."

Upon hearing the name, Lu Jianhong suddenly realized what it meant.

His face instantly turned gloomy.

He then remembered that Lu Kangning was not his only daughter.

He also has a daughter named Lu Yao.

That child was mentally challenged and autistic; he placed him in the Fifth Mental Hospital and forgot about him in a corner of his life.

Lu Jianhong remained silent for a moment before finally asking, "What happened?"

The police officer on the other end of the phone described the whole story in detail.

Lu Jianhong listened quietly, without any emotional fluctuation.

He breathed a sigh of relief when he heard that Lu Yao had escaped unscathed.

Fortunately, he was already an idiot; if he had been insulted, the Lu family would have lost all face.

"Thank you all, I'm so glad you're alright."

The police officer responded politely, "It's what we should do, Mr. Lu."

After hanging up the phone, the police officer couldn't help but mutter to himself, "This father is really cold-hearted."

Even if a child has mental health issues, they are still your own flesh and blood.

Forget it, even an upright official can't settle family disputes.

The police decided not to comment.

...

After Lu Jianhong finished the phone call, his brows furrowed deeply.

He walked out of the study, looking preoccupied.

He subconsciously tugged at his tie, trying to ease the frustration in his heart.

Then his gaze swept over Xie Yutong, who was chatting and laughing with the guests, and he slightly raised his chin, gesturing for her to come with him.

Xie Yutong was chatting happily with the lady beside her when she caught a glimpse of Lu Jianhong's strange behavior out of the corner of her eye, and her heart sank.

She bid farewell to the noblewoman and hurried toward Lu Jianhong.

The two hurried upstairs.

Xie Yutong asked anxiously, "Jianhong, what happened?"

The company is currently pushing forward a major project of paramount importance, which has consumed countless human, material, and financial resources.

Xie Yutong felt a sense of foreboding for no reason. Could it be that something major had happened to the project?

Lu Jianhong glanced around warily, and after confirming that no one else was around, he whispered, "...Something happened to Lu Yao."

The name "Lu Yao" seems like an old object that has been sealed away for many years.

The sudden mention of it startled Xie Yutong.

"What's wrong with her? Has her condition worsened?"

Xie Yutong frowned and asked with disgust.

Today is Kang Ning's victory celebration banquet, and she doesn't want to hear Lu Yao's name at all.

That mentally challenged child brought her only shame.

Lu Jianhong slowly shook his head and recounted the whole story.

Xie Yutong listened without saying a word, but felt disappointed.

If only all traces of Lu Yao's existence could be completely erased.

Keeping it will only cause trouble in the end.

They would pop up every now and then to remind her of her despicable offspring.

"How could anyone be interested in someone with such a mental disability?" Xie Yutong chuckled dryly.

Lu Jianhong's memory of Lu Yao was vague, but that did not prevent a hint of smugness from flashing in his eyes.

"After all, Lu Yao has both of our genes, so she's quite good-looking."

The two fell into a long silence, and a heavy atmosphere filled the air.

Xie Yutong asked cautiously, "Jianhong, the police didn't let us pick her up, did they?"

"Don't worry, the police don't get involved in family matters." Lu Jianhong patted his wife's shoulder, signaling her to relax. "She won't, and can't, come back. Kang Ning just entered high school, which is a crucial time for her. Her grades have improved so much recently. If Lu Yao were suddenly brought back, how could Kang Ning accept it?"

Xie Yutong breathed a sigh of relief, nodded slightly, and echoed, "Yes, everyone thinks Kang Ning is the only daughter of our Lu family. If a mentally challenged and autistic older sister suddenly appeared, what would others think of our Kang Ning? She would definitely be ridiculed a lot."

Her tone was full of heartache for Lu Kangning.

"And the Huo family..."

Lu Jianhong and Xie Yutong exchanged a glance, their eyes flashing with the same worry.

"Young Master Huo and Kang Ning are childhood sweethearts, inseparable since they were little. The two families have verbally agreed to a marriage between their children, hoping that their grandchildren will get married. Lu Yao... will make people worry about our family's genes."

"That's exactly right."

Xie Yutong replied, a hint of guilt flashing in her eyes.

At this point in their conversation, the two understood each other implicitly and reached an agreement.

They won't bring Lu Yao back.

It would be better to die outside.

What the two didn't expect was that someone had overheard their conversation through a wall.

It was a young boy, hidden in the shadows, raising an eyebrow in surprise.
