Chapter 46 Kunwu Wilderness

Chapter 46 Kunwu Plain

Kunwu Plain means a fertile plain called Kunwu.

The land here is fertile and the resources are abundant. It should be a place where people can live and work in peace and contentment.

But the war destroyed it.

A few months ago, Cheng Tang's army attacked from the north. There was no strategic location to defend in the Kunwu Plain. The Kunwu Kingdom barely held out for two months with its capital, but was finally defeated and destroyed.

This originally peaceful and fertile land was trampled by the iron hoofs of war, and the Kunwu people living on the plains were either killed or captured as slaves.

Now it is a ruin.

In the morning, Jiang Shan brought Zhong Yu to the junction of Kunwu Plain and Zhang'e Mountain. He first found a cave to accommodate Zhong Yu and agreed to return before dark. Only then did Jiang Shan enter Kunwu Plain.

The Kunwu Plain is flat, vast and boundless.

Jiang Shan took advantage of the cover of some low grass and trees and quickly went deeper into the mountain. The ruins of some villages gradually came into view.

There are more and more dead bodies and bones.

There are more and more battlefields of various sizes left over from the battles.

At noon, when passing by the ruins of a village, Jiang Shan discovered traces of living people.

Then they were found in a cellar deep in the village.

Two children.

There was a boy and a girl, the girl was about eleven or twelve years old, and the boy was about six or seven years old. Both were pale and thin, with skin and bones visible.

Seeing Jiang Shan, the two children trembled with fear.

"Don't be afraid." Jiang Shan jumped down from the cellar and said, "I am not a soldier of Cheng Tang."

The two children huddled in the corner. When they heard this, they carefully raised their heads and observed Jiang Shan. They found that he really didn't seem to be a soldier, so they relaxed a little.

The girl timidly asked, "Who are you?"

Jiang Shan's mind turned, and he said, "I am Jiang Shan, a noble from Kunwu Country."

The girl asked, "Are there still nobles in Kunwu?"

Jiang Shan said: "I was lucky to escape with my life."

Then he slowly came forward, sat down in front of the two children, and said, "What about you?"

The girl hugged the little boy tightly, looked at him nervously, shrank back, and whispered: "My brother and I went out to collect firewood, and we were not caught by them. But Daddy and Mommy."

Already sobbing.

When the Cheng Tang army was capturing slaves, the two children were not in the village and luckily escaped, but their parents, relatives, and villagers were all captured or killed.

They were still young and didn't know what to do, so they hid in the cellar; because Cheng Tang's army had almost looted all the supplies in the village, there was less and less food in those days, and the two siblings were almost unable to survive.

"What are your names?" Jiang Shan asked in a gentle voice.

The girl said, "My name is Zhi, and my brother's name is Shi."

The brother and sister were just savages, without a surname, only a name; but the elder sister's name was very nice, Zhi. The fragrance of Zhi orchid has a beautiful meaning.

The younger brother's name is Shi, which means stone. Their parents hope that he will be as strong and tenacious as a stone.

"You are a noble, can you save us?" Zhi pursed her dry and cracked lips, her withered face full of hope.

Jiang Shan sighed when he heard this.

He didn't say anything, but took out a piece of bloody beast meat from his Qiankun bag, tore it into small strips, handed it to the siblings, and said, "Eat something first."

Watching the brother and sister devouring a piece of beast meat each, Jiang Shan asked, "How far is Kunwu City from here?"

After eating the meat of the ferocious beast, a hint of red soon appeared on the brother and sister's faces; even their courage suddenly increased a lot.

Zhi said, "I don't know. I just remember that Daddy used to go to Kunwu City. He would leave in the morning and it would take two sunsets to get back home."

Jiang Shan understood.

For an ordinary person, if he sets out on the first morning, he will not be able to return until the third day; with a little calculation, he will know that Kunwu City is not far from here - for Jiang Shan.

Zhi said: "Do you want to go to Kunwu City?"

Jiang Shan nodded, then shook his head: "I want to know what the current situation of Cheng Tang's army is."

Zhi shook her head and said, "I don't know."

But then he said, "It was. A dozen days ago, it seemed like a lot of people passed by the road outside the village. Shi and I didn't dare to go out. We didn't know what was going on."

When Jiang Shan heard this, he secretly said "what an unexpected gain".

While thinking about it, Jiang Shan pondered and said, "I want to go to Kunwu City to take a look. What are your plans?"

The latest novel is published first on Liu9shuba!

Both the brother and sister looked bewildered.

They have no idea what to do, what should be done, or what they can do.

Jiang Shan thought for a moment and said, "You stay here and wait for me to come back. I'll see if there is any way to arrange something for you."

So he left some food - the meat of the ferocious beast could not be left for them. It would be fine if they ate it on the spot, but he was afraid that leaving it would attract the covetousness of other wild beasts and harm the brother and sister. It was not that Jiang Shan was reluctant to do so.

He left a deer leg for them to eat sparingly. There wasn't much food in Jiangshan, and this was the leftovers from a deer he had accidentally shot when he came out of Zhang'e Mountain that morning.

After telling the two siblings to hide well, Jiang Shan left the village.

When we got outside the village, we saw that the road was covered with footprints and tire tracks. Even after more than ten days, they were still clearly visible.

——In order to hide his tracks, Jiang Shan did not take the main road. If Zhi had not told him that many people had passed by the road for more than ten days, Jiang Shan would have really ignored this information.

After thinking for a moment, Jiang Shan had some vague guesses in his mind; he kept them to himself for a while and quickly went to Kunwu City.

Half a day later, Jiang Shanji returned along the same route.

Kunwu City no longer exists—it can’t even be called a ruin. It has turned into a giant pit dozens of miles in radius, and more than half of the pit is filled with water, like a lake.

On the edge of the lake, there was a large camp that had been mostly demolished. There was no one living nearby. No one knew where the Cheng Tang army had gone, leaving behind only a mess.

Jiang Shan immediately thought of what Zhi said, that more than ten days ago, many people passed by on the road outside the village. Judging from the time when the traces left by the demolished camp were removed, it was demolished about ten days ago, no more than half a month ago.

That is to say, Cheng Tang's army left Kunwu Plain more than ten days ago.

This was good news, and it confirmed Jiang Shan's previous guess. But at the same time, a new question arose: where was Cheng Tang's army now?

If you don't figure this out and run around with Zhong Yu, you might accidentally run into an area where military power is radiating, and then you might die without knowing how.

His jade pendant is by no means omnipotent. Moreover, there are extremely powerful warriors in Cheng Tang's army.

Unfortunately, Jiang Shan didn’t find even a single living person, and no one could answer his questions.

With such doubts, Jiang Shan returned to the ruins of the village where the siblings were. But Jiang Shan did not catch their breath - Zhi and Shi were gone!

It only takes half a day.

Jiang Shan rushed to the cellar, but saw a white skeleton standing quietly at the entrance of the cellar, with its empty eye sockets staring at him.
