"I almost forgot, the hen laid a few eggs today, so I specially prepared a dish for you. Eat it while it's hot."
Aunt Yang was very hospitable. She put the scrambled eggs on the table and smiled at Shen Zhao.
"Young man, you're awake? You have no idea how much your wife has been taking care of you these past few days, without sleep or rest."
With a wife like this, always there to serve you, you've really found the right person.
Upon hearing this, Jiang Qingluan blushed deeply and kept glancing at Shen Zhao, afraid that he would be angry because of this misunderstanding.
Shen Zhao smiled slightly: "Auntie, thank you so much for taking care of me these past few days."
"It's nothing, no need to thank me, you're being too polite."
Aunt Yang sat down with a smile.
"You two seem to come from wealthy families, right? What brings you to this poor, remote place?"
Oh my, when you were lying on the roadside covered in blood, and your wife desperately stopped my car, we were really terrified!
I thought you were going to die, and I was discussing with my partner whether we should bury you.
Halfway through her sentence, the woman and child immediately realized what she was doing and quickly slapped themselves in the face.
"Pah, pah, pah, look at my mouth. We country folk just can't keep our mouths shut. Don't take it to heart, little brother."
Shen Zhao replied with a smile, "Auntie, you're too kind. You're our savior; I'm so grateful to you. We encountered a group of bandits on the road."
We barely escaped with our lives. If it weren't for the aunt taking us in, my husband and I would probably be dead already.
When Jiang Qingluan heard the words "we are husband and wife," a sweet feeling welled up in her heart.
Even knowing that this was likely just Shen Zhao's excuse to cover up for Aunt Yang, she was still very happy.
"Oh, so you ran into bandits. You're really lucky to be alive." Aunt Yang suddenly realized. "Those bandits are ruthless killers, they're really wicked. You'd better be careful when you go out in the future."
"Thank you, auntie."
"Alright, stay here and rest for a couple more days. It's not too late to leave once you've fully recovered."
"Since you can eat now, it seems your injuries are healing. I won't disturb your private conversation any longer."
Aunt Yang got up, glanced at Jiang Qingluan, and before leaving, couldn't help but make a series of "tsk tsk tsk" sounds:
"What a beautiful girl, as lovely as a fairy. What a blessing!"
Hearing Aunt Yang's words, Jiang Qingluan blushed even more.
Shen Zhao shook his head and continued to eat.
Seeing Shen Zhao eating so heartily, Jiang Qingluan felt much more at ease. She silently stayed by his side, watching him finish all the food in front of him without saying a word.
