Chapter 25 He didn't want to lose her again!

Helpless, the girl could only stare warily at Yan Jingzhou's hand with her teary, dark eyes, lest he strike again when she wasn't looking!

Then, sobbing, she said, "Why are you poking my wound? It hurts!"

A hint of pity flashed in the man's dark eyes as he looked at the injury on the girl's leg. Having suffered many injuries over the past two years, he naturally knew exactly where the pain was most intense.

But then I remembered how she had repeatedly hurt herself in a daze, and how she always acted like she didn't care, trying to get away with it by joking around.

An inexplicable anger welled up in my chest, a mixture of anger at her lack of self-respect, and a pang of heartache at her lack of self-control, and...

A hint of coldness crept into her tone, "It hurts a lot? Seeing you laughing so happily, I thought you weren't afraid of pain! It's your own body, can't you take better care of it? Hmm?"

Gong Ning paused slightly, then lowered her head, fidgeting with her fingers helplessly. A hint of frustration crept onto her small face as she silently muttered to herself:

People were just happy because you protected me so much, how could I not feel pain? I just forgot how much it hurt!

The man's expression shifted. He looked down at the girl's soft, thick black hair, and his resolve to be tough softened instantly. Seeing her dejected appearance, he could no longer bear to blame her.

He let go and put her legs down, his long, slender, fair hand hovering above Gong Ning's head, wanting to soothe her by rubbing her head, but restraining himself from doing so, and then withdrawing his hand the next second.

His gaze was fixed on the ever-changing scenery outside the car window, his eyes growing increasingly intense.

It's good to learn a lesson.

This made her realize that she needed to protect herself. Even if he protected her so well that strangers couldn't get close, there would always be times when things went wrong.

If he continues to be so careless, like two years ago, losing her because of a moment of carelessness...

After having his wound treated at Yanyun Private Hospital, Yan Jingzhou took Gong Ning to the Yan Group.

Yan Jingzhou went to a meeting, while Gong Ning stayed in the president's office, hugging her leg which had just been treated with medicine, feeling extremely depressed.

Holding each other, she leaned against the sofa and fell asleep.

A warm summer breeze playfully slipped in through the slightly ajar window, ruffling the girl's fine hairs. Gong Ning frowned in displeasure, then suddenly opened her eyes.

Looking at the still empty office where she was the only one left, Gong Ning's drowsy state completely vanished.

He looked around with a somewhat blank expression; it was very quiet.

It was so quiet that only the sound of the wind and her breathing could be heard.

I picked up my phone and checked the time. It was almost noon, and Yan Jingzhou still hadn't returned.

Bright light streamed in through the huge, semi-circular French windows, casting a radiant glow on the soft carpet in front of the window. She stared blankly at the bright light and shadows, then pouted and looked away.

This listless mood infected A-Lin.

A-Lin flew out from between Gong Ning's eyebrows and landed in front of her, his emerald green eyes filled with confusion. "Your Highness, what's wrong?"

Gong Ning shifted her body, stood up, and hopped onto the tatami mat in front of the window on one foot. She lay down on it with a small pillow in her arms, letting the warm sunlight shine on her face, and she squinted comfortably.

Looking at the tiny figure flying before her, her delicate, curled eyelashes drooped slightly, and she spoke with a mixture of disappointment and confusion:

"Ah Lin, I didn't hurt myself on purpose today. There were too many people around, and I don't know who kicked me."
