Chapter 7 How could Fourth Brother possibly have this kind of disease?

It was autumn, the season for harvesting wheat and soybeans. Every household, adults and children alike, went to the fields to help harvest wheat and other crops.

Jingjia Prefecture is located in the north, but it is a vast city with a small population, so each household owns a lot of land.

The largest family owns about 100 mu of land, while the smallest owns about 50 mu. The Rong family owns about 50 mu of land.

Unlike modern times, ancient times relied entirely on manual labor to grow food, lacking the convenience of modern mechanization.

Therefore, the three brothers, Rong Hua, Rong Zheng, and Rong Mu, had to go to the fields to work and harvest the grain.

Because Rong Sheng is a girl and her injuries haven't fully healed, and Rong Yu is also a heavy patient who needs constant care, as his condition might flare up at any time, their younger brother might die if no one is around to take care of him!

Ronghua and the others let Xu stay at home to take care of them, and also cook, feed the pigs, wash clothes, and clean the house.

Rong Sheng's injuries were all superficial, and Rong Dong'an was willing to use medicine, applying the best ointment, which would probably sell for about ten taels of silver. So she was almost fully recovered.

But Rong Yu…

Rong Yu was very thin, as if a gust of wind could blow him over.

His handsome face was deathly pale, devoid of color, and he looked extremely weak.

As an all-around doctor, and also to accumulate medical ethics points, Rong Sheng wanted to see what illness Rong Yu had.

Therefore, Rong Sheng took a few steps forward, came to Rong Yu's side, took Rong Yu's arm, and placed her other hand on Rong Yu's pulse without leaving a trace.

Rong Sheng was about to speak when she was startled by Rong Yu's illness.

Fourth Brother is so young, only sixteen years old, how could he possibly have such a disease? This disease is congenital, so what about Mother Xu?

Almost instinctively, Rong Sheng stared intently at Rong Yu, her dark eyes filled with deep worry.

"Shengbao, what's wrong?" Rong Yu didn't notice that Rong Sheng was taking his pulse and examining him.

He was very happy because Rong Sheng took the initiative to approach him and link arms with him.

He couldn't wait to run to the field and show off to his older brothers.

But when he looked down, he saw Rong Sheng's worried and distressed expression, and his excitement immediately subsided.

"Fourth Brother, you feel so cold. Are you still not used to the autumn morning? Shall we go back inside?" Rong Sheng composed herself and said to Rong Yu.

Rong Yu nodded: "It was indeed quite chilly in the morning. Sheng Bao wasn't dressed warmly enough, so she must have caught a chill. Come inside quickly, and your fourth brother will make you a cup of sweet soup to warm you up."

As they spoke, the two entered the house. Madam Xu was busy tidying up the house and did not notice the expression on Rong Sheng's face. However, seeing Rong Yu and Rong Sheng getting along well from afar, a satisfied smile appeared on her face.

Having a daughter is so great! Look at Rong Yu, that rascal, he hasn't smiled this happily in a long time.

The light in his eyes couldn't be hidden!

Back inside, Rong Sheng looked at Rong Yu's thin body and thought about his illness, which made her feel heavy-hearted. Even the sugar water that Rong Yu poured for her didn't taste sweet anymore.

How could Rong Yu not have noticed Rong Sheng's obvious emotional change?

So he sat down next to Rong Sheng, his gaze fixed intently on her bright, captivating black eyes. "Little sister, what's wrong? Why are you suddenly so downcast?"

Rong Sheng bit her lip, unsure how to tell Rong Yu about his illness.

It wasn't that Rong Sheng didn't want to tell him, but telling him would only make Rong Yu happy for nothing.

This is ancient times, not the 25th century; we don't have the advanced medical technology of the 25th century.

Even if I were an all-around doctor, without medical equipment and medicine, I would have no way to treat Rong Yu immediately!

Just as Rong Sheng was hesitating whether to tell him about Rong Yu's illness, a familiar yet exasperated voice suddenly rang in her ears:

"Your Rong family is truly shameless! You actually kidnapped my daughter while I was away! Hand over my daughter right now, or I'll take your Rong family to the county government!"

"Xu, haha, you can't give birth to a daughter yourself, so you try to steal my daughter. That's really despicable! You deserve to be unable to give birth to a dead girl."

"What angers me even more is that you dared to register that brat's household registration in your Rong family while I was away. This is outrageous!"

A seasoned gambler?!

Rong Sheng's expression changed, and she quickly got off the kang (a heated brick bed), put on her shoes, and was about to go out, but Rong Yu grabbed her arm. "Sheng Bao, you are already a daughter of the Rong family, a sister to us brothers. Don't be foolish and go back with that old gambler! You should know that old gambler is no good. If you go back with him, he will definitely beat you up!"

Rong Sheng felt a warmth in her heart and smiled gently at Rong Yu: "Fourth Brother, don't worry, I won't be that foolish! My parents and brothers have given me endless warmth and protection, and they love me dearly. I'm so grateful, how could I possibly go back with that old gambler to suffer? I went out because I was worried that Mother would be bullied by that old gambler!"

Rong Yu also wanted to go out and see, but his unlucky body...

But he was really worried about Rong Sheng going out alone to face the old gambler. What if the old gambler forcibly took her away? Then they would be without a sister again!

After hesitating for a while, Rong Yu gritted his teeth and said, "Shengbao, don't be afraid. Fourth Brother will go out with you to take a look!"

"Fourth Brother... you're not feeling well, so you shouldn't go out, right? By the way, Fourth Brother, why don't you go find Eldest Brother and the others? That old gambler won't be so arrogant when he sees them coming back!" Rong Sheng suggested.

It's not that I don't want my fourth brother to go out and see the world, but rather that his illness can't withstand any stimulation.
