Even though repairing the river embankment was relatively easy, it was still hard work. The young men who were performing corvée labor were already starving and had taken out their dry rations to eat.
Suddenly, Lai Zi shouted, "Come and eat, or it'll be gone!"
"What kind of food do you want?" A young man looked at Lai Zi in confusion. "Does corvée labor include meals?"
"You're dreaming," someone next to him poured cold water on the idea. "How many years have you served? In which year were you provided with meals?"
“No,” another person’s voice trembled, “It really is. We’ve already caught the yellow tree. There were two steamed buns, a full bowl of vegetables, and I can even smell the meat.”

Once the news was confirmed, everyone rushed forward, completely surrounding the newly set-up stall.
"Line up, one by one, everyone gets a share," Jiang Nuan shouted at the top of her lungs.
However, the effect was not significant.
"You all get in line, or you won't get any food," Lai Zi cursed. "Aunt Wu is kind-hearted and brought food especially for you bastards. I'm not going to put up with you. It's a waste of money to feed a bunch of ingrates. It makes me angry just thinking about it."
As soon as he finished speaking, the crowd quickly lined up, and then, Guaijue walked over nervously to get his food.
