"And then what?"
"Later, no matter how Lai Zi explained, no one believed him," Xie said, touching her nose. "He stole all the chickens and ducks from those troublemakers overnight, and even slaughtered and sold all of Aunt Chunhua's livestock."
It really was a chicken that caused this bloodshed!
Jiang Nuan's lips twitched repeatedly; she still couldn't believe that a chicken could have such power.
No, it's not that the chicken is powerful, it's that Liao Chunhua is poisonous, extremely poisonous!
"And then?" Jiang Nuan asked, resting her chin on her hand. "Lai Zi really started stealing things?"
“Yes,” Madam Xie blinked, “Now it seems that every time something is stolen, it’s the families who wrongly accused Lai Zige.”
Do the villagers know the truth?
"Of course she wouldn't know," Xie said, pursing her lips. "If the villagers knew these things, how could Aunt Chunhua possibly stay in the village?"
A single foul mouth has thrown the entire village into chaos, affecting many families. How could they possibly pretend nothing happened?
"How did you know?" Jiang Nuan asked curiously, "Did you guess?"
"Mother, that must be it. If you don't believe me, ask Brother Lai later."
Xie had already suspected these things, and seeing Liao Chunhua's guilty look, she immediately confirmed her guess.
"Liao Chunhua is truly a menace."
Jiang Nuan was speechless.
She had always thought Lai Zi wasn't the kind of person who would do evil, but she never imagined things would turn out so bizarrely.
“Mother,” Xie whispered in Jiang Nuan’s ear, “I think she’s afraid of being found out the truth and being kicked out of Huangjiakou, which is why she’s in such a hurry to come here. I guess Aunt Chunhua won’t give up so easily.”
Xie was right; Liao had already entered the Huang clan chief's house.
"Sister Chunhua," Chief Huang said with his usual smile, "what brings you to my house today?"
“Sister-in-law,” Liao said with a fawning smile, “I have something I’d like to ask the clan chief.”
Upon hearing this, the clan chief's wife frowned almost imperceptibly. "What do you want with him? Tell me first, and I'll tell him when the head of the household returns."
“The clan chief isn’t here,” Liao said with some disappointment. “That’s alright, I’ll wait for him here.”
As he spoke, he grabbed a stool and sat down.
Seeing this, the smile on the clan chief's wife's face froze for a moment. "Chunhua, there's no certainty about when the master will come back. If there's anything, you should tell me first."
“Sister-in-law, it’s not that I don’t want to talk to you, but it’s no use,” Liao waved her hand. “I can sit here by myself. You go about your business and don’t need to take care of me.”
Upon hearing this, the clan chief's wife could no longer maintain her smile.
She nodded reluctantly, her tone unchanged, and said, "Alright, you wait here, I'll go get busy."
After saying that, he left.
Sitting on the stool, Liao remained calm and composed, completely unaware that her words had offended someone. "Why are you walking so fast? I still want to drink some water."
Upon hearing this, the clan chief's wife paused, then quickly hurried away.
When Chief Huang returned, it was nearly dusk.
Upon entering, he saw Liao sitting by the door. His usually composed face showed surprise. "Liao Chunhua, what are you doing sitting in our house?"
"Clan leader," Liao Shi immediately stood up upon hearing the voice, "I've been waiting for you to come back all afternoon."
"Why are you waiting for me?" Chief Huang's face turned ashen. "If there's anything you need, have your man come to me."
