Chapter 286 Old House

“Your grandma,” Jiang Nuan said hesitantly, “I feel like something’s not right.”

Not only was the mother-in-law acting strange, but the whole family in the old house was acting strangely.

Even when he went alone, his smile seemed forced, as if he was suppressing some kind of anger.

Of course, this anger wasn't directed at her, and Jiang Nuan was well aware of that.

But that only makes people more curious.

Who could possibly make my parents, elder brother, and sister-in-law act like this?

Thinking of this, Jiang Nuan handed her granddaughter to Xie Shi, saying, "You hold her first, I'm going to the old house."

"Mother, I'll go with you."

“Let’s not,” Jiang Nuan pointed at Daya, “I don’t want to see you crying if you’re left at the old house again.”

In this era, filial piety is highly valued. Elders would not hesitate to keep a child for a few days or even take him home to raise him.

From a later perspective, separating a mother and child would seem immoral, but to people of this era, it was seen as a sign of the child being cherished and something to be thankful for.

However, her family is a little different from others.

Upon hearing this, Xie replied without hesitation, "I'll leave the child with my third brother's wife."

“She’s different from your sister-in-law; she’s never had children, so it’s inevitable that she won’t be able to take care of them as thoroughly as she could.”

"Then forget it," Xie said listlessly, her voice low as she realized she couldn't go. "I'll wait for you at home, Mother. Please come back soon."

"Leave it; it won't take long."

As Jiang Nuan approached the old house, she smelled an unpleasant odor.

"Sister-in-law, what's going on?" She came in, covering her nose.

"Don't even mention it," Sister-in-law Huang said with a troubled expression. "The mountain woman got some folk remedy from somewhere, saying that burning black dog blood and grinding it into powder with eggshells can help you conceive a son!"

"What the hell?" Jiang Nuan was stunned. "You believe this kind of nonsense? Aren't you afraid of ruining your health?"

"I can't control her," Sister-in-law Huang shook her head. "I've said everything I should and shouldn't have said, but it's no use. She's obsessed with these things, and she won't listen to any advice."

This isn't the first time.

The other day she insisted on eating soybean dregs, saying that they could make her pregnant.

Yesterday, I don't know where I got some talisman water, and I drank three big bowls of it, which resulted in diarrhea all day.

I thought things would calm down for a while, but as soon as I had a little energy left, I started causing trouble again.

She was extremely worried whenever she talked about her daughter-in-law, but no matter how hard she tried to stop her, she couldn't stop her daughter-in-law from ruining her own body.

“This can’t go on,” Jiang Nuan said, speechless. “Eating all sorts of random things, even the best body can’t withstand this kind of abuse.”

"She's gone mad for her son." Sister-in-law Huang felt extremely aggrieved. "It's just a pity for your nephew. He has to deal with her all the time, and now he can't even walk straight."

If she hadn't felt too embarrassed to interfere in the young couple's private affairs, she would have already given them a thorough dressing-down.

She wants a son, but she can't just do whatever she wants to her son.

She might not cherish her own son, but she cherishes her own son dearly.

If she were to ruin this only child, even her death wouldn't be enough to atone for it.

These words caused Jiang Nuan's expression to freeze slightly.

This guy is ruthless!

Men generally have better stamina than women, so if a woman can drain her own man to this extent, she must have been exhausted herself.

Jiang Nuanzhen didn't understand, was her son really that important?

Having a son is supposed to make the family better, so isn't this putting the cart before the horse?

"Sister-in-law," Jiang Nuan whispered, "you can't let her go through all this."

Don't let the young couple be unable to cope when their son doesn't come.
