Chapter 427 Horror

The manager, who was struggling to keep things afloat, was unaware that the outside help he was waiting for had already run away. As the pressure mounted, he lost all color in his face.

"Damn it, what's wrong with that bastard Li Sheng? Even a tortoise isn't this slow!"

Qingfeng Temple is on a dark path, so it must choose its own way out. The manor is a good example. It not only stores all kinds of food and weapons, but also has half of its manpower.

To facilitate rescue efforts, a tunnel was even built, taking a year to complete. The round trip takes so little time that it takes less than the time it takes to drink a cup of tea.

Now, a quarter of an hour has passed, and still no one has come. What's going on?

Did I betray myself?

“Impossible, absolutely impossible,” the steward murmured. “That kid was raised by me; he would never do anything to betray me.”

"Manager," someone gradually approached, "we can't hold them off, let's retreat."

"Retreat? What retreat?"

The manager turned around, angrily raising his hand to slap the bastard who was disrupting morale, but then he saw the newcomer raise a contemptuous smile and immediately realized something was wrong.

However, in the blink of an eye, there was no time to dodge, and he was stabbed straight in the heart.

He pointed at the person, his voice trembling, "You, were you sent by the young master?"

At that moment, he finally understood his doubts.

The reinforcements must have been taken away, which is why they haven't arrived yet. Otherwise, they wouldn't have taken so long. And this person I've never met before, why is he taking my life at this particular moment? He's probably just here to silence me.

puff!

He spat out a mouthful of blood, along with the last bit of life he had been holding in his mouth. Instantly, he lost his breath and collapsed to the ground.

Only those eyes, filled with shock and anger yet tinged with understanding, revealed the owner's resentment and attachment to the world.

With the manager dead, the remaining crowd lost its leader and was soon captured.

"Strange," Chief Ji clicked his tongue in amazement, "How come everything went so smoothly tonight?"

It went incredibly smoothly.

He thought it would be a fierce battle, with at least one or two people dying. But the battle ended in less than half an hour. Only a few of his men were slightly injured, while the fake Taoists from Qingfeng Temple were either dead or wounded, a pitiful sight!

“Exactly,” Huang Shi said, equally puzzled, “it’s like God is deliberately helping us.”

Such a big thing was actually accomplished by these peasants who had temporarily teamed up.

No matter how I think about it, the fake Taoist priests at Qingfeng Temple seem more like crisp cucumbers growing in the ground than murderers and robbers.

"Why worry about so much?" Chief Jiang said casually. "As long as we win, that's all that matters."

After dismantling this fake Taoist temple, we no longer have to worry about people coming out to kill or set fires in the middle of the night, and we can finally sleep peacefully.

“That’s right,” Chief Ji laughed heartily, “Who cares, as long as we win.”

"Ya Ya, we've already won, what else do we need to do?" Chief Jiang asked.

cough cough

Thinking about what she was about to say, Jiang Nuan blushed a little. "No one gets rich without some ill-gotten gains. This Taoist temple does so many dirty things, it must have a lot of valuables. Let's search it first."

Now that we're here, we can't let our efforts go to waste.

Jiang Nuan's words made everyone's eyes light up.

Huang Shi clapped his hands excitedly, "That makes sense!"

Huang Xiaosi and his companion were experienced in this matter, so they immediately led their men to search the backyard room by room, taking everything that could be exchanged for two copper coins or more.

Until we entered a very empty room.

From a distance, there was no problem, but the people at Qingfeng Temple deliberately laid out a red silk ribbon to show off their class.

"Could there be a tunnel here?"

Huang Xiaosi's eyes gleamed with a sharp light as he looked at the wall with a restless expression. He pushed it, and without much effort, a crack appeared.

"Oh my, you were right, you little rascal," Huang Lao Er said with a look of surprise. "Do you think there might be chests of silver piled up inside, with copper coins scattered all over the ground?"

"Dream on," Old Huang's lips twitched. "You think this is a palace?"

“Let’s go in and take a look,” Chief Ji said with a smile that brought wrinkles to his face, his eyes filled with longing for money. “I’ll lead the way, and you all follow. Hold your knives tight, just in case there are people hiding down there.”

After sharing hardships together, Chief Ji's mentality underwent a significant change. He regarded all the young men who came with him as his own juniors, and his words were full of concern.

The group carefully descended, only to find the ground filled with lit candles, as bright as day. On both sides, there were various rooms of different sizes, from which strange and unusual sounds occasionally emanated.

Once Chief Ji realized where he was, his face instantly turned ashen, and he growled at the young men behind him, "Cover your ears, all of you!"

In the room of a mad wolf, Master Jin's antics were getting more and more intense. The two Qins were completely focused on dealing with him, and their worries about the outside world had long been forgotten.

As Master Jin continued to move, the crimson in his eyes grew deeper and deeper. Gradually, a trickle of blood flowed from the corner of his eye, then from his nose, lips, and ears. None of the two Qins, who were passively enduring all of this, noticed it.

Suddenly, with a thud, the movement came to an abrupt stop, and Master Jin crashed straight into the two of them.

Qin Ersao, at the top, looked up and saw Master Jin, covered in blood and with a ferocious look in his eyes, and instantly screamed, "Ah~"

"What's wrong?" Sister-in-law Qin's voice was hoarse from shouting, and she had no strength left, so her words were almost inaudible.

"Big sister-in-law," Qin Ersao said in horror, "something has happened, he's dead, he's dead."

"What happened?" Sister-in-law Qin was breathless from the pressure. "Get up and sit up first before we talk."

She sensed that the old beast had stopped its animalistic behavior.

She thought she was going to die in bed today, but thankfully, God didn't do anything drastic.

"She's dead, really dead," Qin Ersao couldn't push him away and scrambled to the side. "She's dead, she's dead."

As he spoke, he completely disregarded the fact that he was naked and ran outside without a care in the world.

After Qin Ersao left, Qin Dasao faced Master Jin directly and learned what her sister-in-law had said. At that moment, her face changed drastically, her whole body trembled, and she was covered in beads of sweat.

She pushed people away without a second thought, put on a piece of clothing to cover herself, and left in a panic.

She didn't want to stay at Qingfeng Temple and never want to come back. This place was hell, a hell that devoured people.

Sister-in-law Qin regretted it deeply. If she had known it would end like this, she would have rather begged for food than come back to this hellish place.

After the two Qins left, the dark room, filled with an atmosphere of decadence, was left with only the dead Master Jin, whose blood-stained face looked particularly terrifying in the flickering candlelight.

But none of the Jin family members, living far away in the county town, knew any of this.
