Chapter 52 Anti-Routine

"Mother, little brother," Jiang Nuan ignored what the two said and pressed them down onto the stools. Without saying a word, she took out a few pieces of pastry and stuffed them into their hands, saying softly, "Eat some even if you don't like them. It's my way of showing my appreciation."

These lies meant to fool children unexpectedly touched Jiang Nuan's heart.

Only those who truly care about themselves will keep all the good things for themselves.

Jiang Nuan pursed her lips, looked at the two stubbornly, and insisted that they eat it.

"Grandma, Uncle, please eat quickly," Xie said, taking the sweet soup that Wang had prepared and walking over. "Eat some pastries and drink some water, so you won't choke."

“Second niece-in-law,” Jiang Xu looked at Xie Shi helplessly, “no need, what’s the point of me eating pastries as a grown man?”

In his mind, pastries and candied fruits were all reserved for his eldest sister and mother.

He's a man, all he needs is to fill his stomach, why does he need to eat such elaborate food?

“Jiang Xu,” Jiang Nuan glared at him fiercely, “Just eat what I tell you to eat. Why are you talking so much? If you keep nagging, I’ll tell Mom you’re bullying me.”

After saying that, Jiang Nuan herself was stunned for a moment.

She clearly has no memory, so why is she acting so naturally?

Upon hearing this, Jiang Xu's eyes narrowed slightly, and he said weakly, "Big sister, I'll eat it."

I've used this trick since I was a child, and strangely enough, it always works.

Jiang Xu glanced at his mother, who was beaming with joy, muttered something to himself, and then lowered his head like a submissive wife.

Having a biased mother is truly a helpless situation!

Even knowing that her older sister was lying through her teeth, she still lectured herself.

Who can blame me for being so tough and resilient? It's so frustrating!

"Grandma, Uncle, you're here," Huang Xiaosan said with a grin after washing his hands. "Where's my cousin? Didn't he come with us?"

“No,” Jiang Xu said with a smile when he mentioned his son, “Spring plowing is coming soon, and he’s at home tending the fields.”

"Xiao San, don't disturb your uncle's meal," Jiang Nuan slapped Huang Xiao San on the head, "Go get the meat we bought yesterday and chop it up, we're having dumplings today."

After a pause, Jiang Nuan added, "White flour dumplings!"

“That won’t do,” Jiang Xu said with a disapproving look. “We’re here to deliver steamed buns. We’ll leave after we’re done. We’re not eating here. You can keep the meat for yourself.”

"Mother," Jiang Nuan ignored Jiang Xu completely, blinked, and looked at Old Madam Jiang expectantly, "How about staying here today?"

"Okay, okay," Grandma Jiang said softly, wishing she could pluck the stars from the sky for her. "I'll do whatever you say."

“Mother,” Jiang Xu looked at Old Lady Jiang in disbelief, “Didn’t you say that our eldest sister’s family has no food and we can’t cause her trouble?”

“When did I say that?” Madam Jiang shook her head and snorted coldly. “Xiao Xu, you’re getting more and more capable, slandering me in front of Ya Ya. When we get back, I’ll have your father teach you a lesson!”

Jiang Xu choked on a mouthful of blood and asked dejectedly, "Mother, can't you be reasonable?"

It was clearly what Mother herself said, what does it have to do with him?

Why is he always the one who gets hurt?

If his mother hadn't repeatedly told him not to eat at his eldest sister's house or take anything from her, how could he have refused so readily?

Is the pastry not sweet enough, or is the meat not flavorful enough?

Why is he always the one who's wrong?

I'm so tired!

"Jiang Xu," Jiang Nuan said fiercely, hands on her hips, "When has your mother ever been unreasonable? Don't you feel any remorse saying that?"

Snap!

Jiang Xu clutched his chest tightly.

He was indignant at these outrageous words, but he dared not utter a word in rebuttal.

"Uncle," Huang Xiaosan secretly nudged Jiang Xu, "Don't argue with me, or you'll be in big trouble."

His mother was already a formidable fighter, and with his maternal grandmother joining the fray, his weak and pitiful uncle was doomed.

He couldn't just watch his uncle make a fool of himself and drag them down with him.

As the saying goes, nephews resemble their uncles. If a mother thinks they are like their uncles, she certainly wouldn't mind teaching these innocent children to be good people again.

"Hmm," Jiang Xu nodded sullenly, turned his face away in frustration, and stuffed the red bean cake that Jiang Nuan handed him into his mouth. "It's actually quite delicious!"

"If you like it, eat more," Huang Xiaosan said considerately, handing over the sugar water. "Drink some water so you don't choke."

If you eat and your mouth is stuffed shut, you can't speak.

Sure enough, I'm a clever little devil, Huang Xiaosan thought smugly to himself.

Unaware of the inside story, Jiang Xu glanced at Huang Xiaosan with emotion, and then ate the pastries in big bites.

Seeing this, Huang Xiaosan breathed a sigh of relief and turned his attention to Jiang Nuan. "Mom, I'll go chop the meat. You stay here and keep Grandma company."

"Go ahead," Jiang Nuan waved her hand, "Let your older brothers help you. There are still a few bones left, let's cook them together."

"Yaya, don't be like this," Grandma Jiang said, looking at Jiang Nuan with heartache. "It's not easy to get some meat, just enough to nourish you. It would be such a waste for me to eat it."

"Mom, what do you mean it's a waste for you to eat it?" Jiang Nuan was very dissatisfied. "If my mother can eat the meat, then the pig has died a worthwhile death. If no one eats it, isn't it a waste of a life? It's not worth it at all."

Is this another way of explaining it?

Xie stared wide-eyed at Jiang Nuan, her eyes overflowing with adoration.

So that's how it can be said.

Simply by changing the order, the meaning is completely reversed, and no one can refute it.

Remember this, you must remember this well, so you can use it to fool people in the future...

“That’s not wrong,” Grandma Jiang’s eyes flickered, and she nodded in agreement. “After all, it was a life. If no one ate it, it would have died in vain. It’s really a shame.”

Grandma Jiang patted Jiang Nuan's arm, then changed the subject and continued, "Since that's the case, Ya Ya, you should eat more, and don't let it die in vain."

I was outmaneuvered!

Jiang Nuan looked at Grandma Jiang in surprise, her clear eyes blinking repeatedly, seemingly not quite understanding.

Are all people this smart these days, or is it just her own mother?

Jiang Nuan looked at the bewildered Jiang Xu beside her with some disdain.

Sure enough, it wasn't a misperception; only a minority are as intelligent as her.

An ordinary person, probably, maybe, possibly, is just like Jiang Xu, who is dull-witted.

Perhaps, a mother's actions are an isolated case!

With a blink of her eyes, Jiang Nuan smiled warmly, her slightly rough hands wiggling her cheeks as she said playfully, "Mom, look at my face, it's so tender and rosy, full of vitality, I'm in excellent health."

As she spoke, she stood up, raised her arm, and continued, "I have inexhaustible energy right now, why would I need to take care of my health?"

"She is indeed better," Grandma Jiang said, stroking her chin and looking Jiang Nuan up and down thoughtfully. "She's gained some weight and gotten fairer. She doesn't look sickly anymore. It seems she is indeed better."

As she spoke, a look of doubt flashed in her eyes.

Her daughter, Yaya, was in poor health and had always been sickly. How could she suddenly change so much?

Did he take some kind of magic pill?
