Chapter 493 The Best

Why did they suddenly start this whole "bearing thorns to apologize" thing?

It just doesn't seem like something he would do.

This style seems more like Han Qi's.

Jiang Nuan walked back and saw Han Qi smiling at her from afar at the door. She immediately greeted him, "Brother Han, you're here."

“Sister Jiang,” Han Qi said, kicking his son, “I was furious when I heard what that brat did yesterday. That’s why I made him come here first thing this morning to apologize.”

His tone was full of self-satisfaction.

“It’s not that bad,” Jiang Nuan said, rubbing her forehead and looking at the villagers gathered around her with a headache. “It’s all in the past, I don’t care about it.”

Looking at the excited eyes around her, Jiang Nuan had a premonition that many people would be visiting her home soon.

“You are magnanimous,” Han Qi shook his head, “but I cannot pretend that nothing happened.”

He wasn't stupid. Even if the Huang family didn't say anything, he still harbored a grudge and there was a distance between them.

Han Qi was right. Jiang Nuan didn't mind the matter, but she didn't rely on Han Yi as much as before.

Hearing this, he just smiled and said perfunctorily, "Brother Han, you're too kind. Let's go inside first and talk about it later."

She was now very curious about how Han Qi knew all this.

This is a shameful thing, so how could Han Yi possibly say it himself?

“Yeah, it was a bit embarrassing outside,” Han Qi said, giving Han Yi a resentful look. “It’s all that good-for-nothing brat’s fault.”

He could clearly feel the way people around him were looking at him, scrutinizing him and even a hint of excitement. He felt like a monkey being performed on the street.

"Uncle Han, hurry up and go inside," Xie reminded him. "Don't let people laugh at us. And Han Yi, it must hurt a lot to carry those brambles. Han Yun, quickly untie the ropes on your young master."

Xie sighed inwardly. After what happened today, no matter how unwilling she was, she could only swallow the past.

It wasn't a big deal to begin with, and the outcome was good. The other party sincerely apologized, so what else could we do but let it go?

However, thinking that the good days she had finally looked forward to were almost ruined by Han Yi's words, Xie Shi was still unable to accept it.

However, it's not good to express this mentality in a willful way.

After the group went inside, Jiang Nuan personally poured Han Qi a cup of tea, saying, "Brother Han, what's past is past, don't take it to heart. This whole 'bearing thorns to apologize' thing is too much."

It goes without saying that this matter will be discussed by the villagers for at least half a month.

“However,” Han Qi waved his hand, “it was his mistake to begin with, so it’s not too much to ask.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang Nuan decided not to argue with Han Qi anymore and turned her gaze to Han Yi. "Sit down and have a cup of tea to rest. I understand your father's intentions. I'm sorry to trouble you."

Upon hearing this, Han Yi's heart skipped a beat, and he immediately smiled apologetically, "Auntie, what are you saying? I made a mistake, so I should admit it and apologize with a bundle of thorns on my back."

Jiang Nuan didn't respond to that, but gently instructed, "If your father acts up again, don't join in. It's not a big deal to begin with, but making a scene like this won't do anyone any good."

"Jiang Meizi," Han Qi's voice deepened, "you also think I did something wrong?"

“No,” Jiang Nuan shook her head, “I just felt it was unnecessary.”

If one truly acknowledges their mistake, these formalities are unnecessary.

If you don't know this, doing this will only make people resent you more.

Jiang Nuan had observed Han Yi. Although she harbored no resentment, she was not entirely willing either, and she felt that it was making a mountain out of a molehill.

Opinions on this matter vary, but the outcome is ultimately positive, so there's no point in dwelling on it.

However, she appreciated Han Qi's intentions.

"Whether it was necessary or not, it was what he should do."

Han Qi said this very seriously.

He doesn't concern himself with business matters, but he absolutely will not tolerate Han Yi setting his sights on those around him.

Seeing Han Qi's serious attitude, Jiang Nuan smiled and said, "Okay, let's do as Brother Han says."

"You brat, aren't you going to come over and pour some tea and apologize? Or do you expect me to feed you?"

Upon hearing this, Han Yi froze. He suddenly realized that after his father's display of power yesterday, he really treated him like a piece of cake.

Calming himself, he looked at Jiang Nuan solemnly, picked up a cup of tea, bowed, and said, "Auntie, I was wrong, please forgive me."

Jiang Nuan took the tea, took a sip, and said, "Alright, this matter is over. Let's not mention it again."

"Come, come, have some melons," Wang said, walking over with a basket. "These are the ones I planted in the backyard. I take good care of them every day. They're ready to eat in just two months. Try them all. You'll have to wait several more months for them outside."

Yesterday it looked quite green, but today it's turned white.

Although it's not fully ripe yet, it doesn't stop the family from having a taste.

"You have melons?" Han Qi was surprised. "Give me one to try."

Upon hearing this, Jiang Nuanxin glanced upwards guiltily.

There are too few fruits in this era. She did grow some in her space, but she couldn't take them out. In order to let her whole family have some sweets, she secretly watered the space to shorten the growth cycle.

I thought it would take another four or five days, but I didn't expect my daughter-in-law to be so impatient.

"Can I try some too?" Han Yi asked tentatively.

“Yes, there are,” Wang smiled gently. “There’s a whole basket, enough for everyone to share.”

While the Huang family was happily enjoying the gossip, at Juquanlou, Ji Xuan summoned Liu Zhiyuan and asked, "Minister Liu, how does Minister Gu plan to treat my illness?"

“Your Majesty,” Liu Zhiyuan lowered his head, “please move to the pharmacy and take a medicinal bath today.”

"Has His Majesty's room been arranged?" Qi Yong asked, raising an eyebrow. "His Majesty's health is delicate, so we cannot be careless."

"Don't worry," Liu Zhiyuan assured, patting his chest, "I personally arranged it; it's absolutely the best room in the pharmacy."

An hour later, Qi Yong, standing at the door, angrily pointed at the room and asked, "This is the best room you were talking about?"

The room was cramped and lacked various amenities: a half-new bed, a mahogany chest, a waist-high square table, two stools, and everything else.

It's not even comparable to the best rooms in an inn, let alone ordinary homes.

It wasn't even as good as the room the Huang family had hastily prepared; at least that room had teacups.

“Yes,” Liu Zhiyuan nodded in satisfaction, “The bedding is all new, the room is spotless, and it faces the sun. This is the best room in the entire pharmacy.”

He had long coveted this room, but his master refused to let him go, insisting that he and his son sleep on the floor together.

Upon hearing this, Qi Yong remained silent, but instead inspected each room one by one, even the main hall where medicine was dispensed.

In the end, they were saddened to discover that this frighteningly simple room was actually the best room in the entire pharmacy.

Dr. Gu's own room was even more frightening, with dirt falling from the roof from time to time.

"Alright, let's stay here for now," Qi Yong said, resigning himself. "We can buy more things when we have time."
