"Besides, I'm not very smart to begin with, so it's normal that I don't know anything."
Huang Lao Er said this with complete confidence and without the slightest guilt.
This made Xie even angrier.
"You blockhead," Xie said, wishing she could smash her husband's head open. "You're so proud of being so stupid."
With a cold snort, Xie crossed her arms and said, "I don't care, you have to memorize it today, or you're not allowed to sleep."
"That won't do, we have to go to work tomorrow."
"Let the mistress go. Mother already said that you brothers should take turns."
"No, I'll go myself."
He preferred to build official roads rather than memorize texts.
I used to think that scholars were enviable, but now I realize that studying is too hard.
His wrists hurt from practicing calligraphy, and he still has to memorize things constantly. Now, he gets a headache just hearing the words "memorize."
“What do you know? I’m doing this for your own good,” Xie paused, then added, “No, it’s for the good of both of us.”
As he spoke, he stared straight at Huang Lao Er and asked, "Do you want a son?"
“I don’t want to,” Huang Lao Er shook his head. “Mother said that childbirth is bad for the body. We already have Daya, one is enough for us.”
What Huang Lao Er didn't say was that he felt his wife wouldn't care much for the baby, just like Daya, leaving her with his sister-in-law every day, only bringing her over when she was sleeping.
He already felt bad about asking his sister-in-law to take care of one of his daughters, let alone leaving his son there as well; he would feel guilty towards his sister-in-law.
"I see," Xie Shi, who was about to explode, instantly brightened up upon hearing this. "I miss you, though. Our Daya is too lonely. She won't have any brothers to support her when she gets married."
“There’s no rush,” Huang Lao Er scratched his head, thought for a moment, and then said, “We should wait until Daya is five or six years old.”
That way, he can enjoy himself for several more years, haha...
“Then,” Xie nodded, then asked shyly, “would you like it to last a little longer?”
"What?" Huang Lao Er stroked his chin. "It's not always you who says no."
Women don't even tell the truth about things like this!
“Actually,” Huang Lao Er added, “I could have stayed a little longer.”
"Get out!" Enraged, Xie kicked Huang Lao Er hard on the corner of his head. "Can't you speak properly?"
Huang Lao Er felt wronged. "I was speaking properly."
"No matter what, you must memorize what your mother taught you today, or you won't be allowed to go to bed."
If she brings this up with that guy again, she'll be a complete idiot!
If I had known that my mother's excuse was so unreliable, I would have made one up myself.
"No way, how could you possibly memorize it in one night?"
In Huang Xiaosan and his wife's room, Jin looked shyly at her husband and asked, "Husband, have you learned all the characters your mother taught you?"
“You’ve learned them all,” Huang Xiaosan turned his head. “If there’s any word you don’t recognize, I’ll teach you.”
“I’ve memorized them all,” Jin said, poking the back of Xiao San’s hand and blushing. “Mother said it’s a cultivation technique that’s good for the body. She’ll teach us once we’ve memorized it.”
"Mother taught me a martial arts technique?" Huang Xiaosan exclaimed in surprise. "What kind of technique? A martial arts manual?"
“No,” Jin said, her face darkening. “It’s a cultivation method for nourishing the body. Mother’s health was restored by that cultivation method.”
"Is this true?" Huang Xiaosan grabbed his wife's shoulders in shock. "Did Mother tell you this?"
His mother has changed so much lately that he can hardly believe it.
