I've heard my family say that my mother's cooking is even better than that of chefs in restaurants, but unfortunately, all these years I've only heard it and never actually tasted it.
Before the family split up, my aunt did the cooking. After the split, she helped us brothers find wives and honed our cooking skills.
After getting married, I had a wife who could cook...
“It’s Mother’s cooking,” Wang said as she walked over with a bowl, just in time to hear this. “Mother’s cooking is excellent; the smell alone makes you hungry.”
Just then, Xiao Wu rushed over and said with a smile, "Big brother, we had dumplings for lunch, and Mom said we'd be having chicken for dinner, so she didn't save any for you."
"You guys had dumplings?" Old Huang licked his lips unconsciously. "Was it good?"
"It's so delicious, so fragrant." Huang Xiaowu then added, "No, it doesn't smell as good as the chicken at night."
Just then, Da Niu and Er Niu came out carrying chicken wrapped in ginger.
Neither of the children wanted to eat it; it took them almost half an hour to finish half a bowl of chicken.
“It really smells good,” Old Huang said, his eyes practically gleaming as he stared at the bowl in his son’s hand. He managed to maintain his last shred of rationality, turned his head to the side, and walked over to Jiang Nuan to hand over the copper coins. “Mother, here are your ten coins for today.”
After what happened yesterday, Jiang Nuan accepted the money directly. However, she put the money in a separate place from yesterday's money, planning to find a reason to return it to them after a while.
Before she could speak, Jiang Nuan heard Huang Xiaosi's ghostly wail, "Mother, I'm back."
As soon as he finished speaking, Huang Xiaosi had already run into the yard.
"What a free spirit," Jiang Nuan thought to herself, but a smile appeared on her face. "You're back just in time. We'll have dinner when your second brother gets back."
"Mom," Huang Xiaosi looked at Jiang Nuan cautiously, "Can I bring someone to our house for dinner?"
"Fourth Brother, are you bringing Fatty over for dinner?" Huang Xiaowu's head popped out from behind Jiang Nuan. "Is Fatty out of food again?"
"Mom," Huang Xiaosi looked at Jiang Nuan hopefully, "Fatty used to give me a lot of food. Could we let him have a meal at our house?"
Fatty was his best brother and was very loyal. He would always save some food for Fatty when he got it, and Fatty would always remember Fatty when he had something good to eat.
"Xiao Si, who is Fatty?" Jiang Nuan asked, somewhat confused. "Is he from Huangjiakou?"
"His nickname is Fatty, so his family must be well-off," Jiang Nuan thought to herself.
“Mom,” Huang Xiaowu answered quickly, “Fatty is from Uncle Jiu’s family. Uncle Jiu and Aunt Jiu were crushed to death, so he has no parents.”
“He’s pitiful,” Jiang Nuan’s face hardened slightly, and she spoke softly, “Bring him here.”
"Mom, you're so good!" Huang Xiaosi shouted excitedly towards the door when he heard Jiang Nuan agree. "Fatty, come in quickly, Mom agreed."
That brat! He chewed Jiang Nuanqi's teeth until they were crushed.
She's already brought everyone here, so why is she asking what she's doing? Can she really stop her?
If you say something unpleasant to others, it will hurt their feelings.
Jiang Nuan glared at Huang Xiaosi, then turned her gaze to the back of the door. There she saw a chubby, half-grown child emerge from behind the door.
Instantly, Jiang Nuan's face turned deathly pale.
The fat man sensed this and his eyes darkened. He pursed his lips and then whispered, "Fifth Aunt, I think I should leave."
"Leave?" Jiang Nuan ran over, grabbed him, and pulled him close. "Where are you going?"
"Fifth Aunt," the fat man said, feeling a little uncomfortable being grabbed by Jiang Nuan. He struggled but couldn't break free. "Your family is also short of food, so I won't trouble you any further."
Looking at Jiang Nuan's anxious face, he was a little puzzled. It seemed that Aunt Wu did not dislike him.
“I didn’t mind that you were causing me trouble,” Jiang Nuan closed her eyes, her mind once again filled with his swollen belly, her eyes filled with lingering fear, “You child, did you eat some kind of clay?”
"How did you know?" The fat man looked at Jiang Nuan in surprise. He had never told anyone about this, not even his best friend Xiao Si.
"Mother, what is Guanyin soil?" Huang Xiaosi looked at everyone in confusion. "Why are you all so nervous?"
“Little Four,” Old Master Huang said with a complicated expression, “the Guanyin clay is a deadly substance; only starving people would eat it.”
"That's deadly!" Huang Xiaosi's face changed drastically. He nervously grabbed Jiang Nuan's sleeve, his eyes brimming with tears. "Mother, I don't want Fatty to die. Please save him."
"Xiao Si, I'm fine," the fat man forced a smile, but his swollen body made his smile look particularly terrifying. "I'm alive and well now, and I'll be fine in the future."
"Mother..." Huang Xiaosi looked to Jiang Nuan for help.
After calming herself down, Jiang Nuan made the arrangements methodically, "Boss, go and get some of Da Ya's urine, the more the better."
Eldest daughter-in-law, when you cook porridge with fine rice, remember to add some salt to it.
Second son's wife, take twenty copper coins and exchange them for some eggs, then drain the chicken in a bowl.
After saying this, Jiang Nuan turned to look at the fat man with a serious and earnest expression. "Kid, you have too much clay in your stomach. You need to vomit it out. I can only help you vomit with urine. Don't blame me."
"Fifth Aunt, I don't blame you," the fat man said gratefully, sensing Jiang Nuan's worry.
He knew a little about his own body; after eating too much Guanyin clay, his stomach was so bloated it ached, and he was so hungry he wanted to gnaw on tree bark but couldn't eat much.
He had a premonition that he was about to die, so when Xiao Si invited him to his house for meat, he was tempted. Being able to eat meat before he died would make his life worthwhile.
Unexpectedly, there was still hope for me.
Soon, Old Huang returned carrying a bowl. "Mother, shall we fill it now?"
"Keep pouring," Jiang Nuan said resolutely, "keep pouring until he can't vomit anything more."
Jiang Nuan wasn't sure either; she had only heard of this method and didn't know if it would work.
But there's no good solution right now, so we can only try anything as a last resort.
“Big brother, I can do it myself. I can drink it by myself,” the fat man said.
“No way,” Jiang Nuan refused without thinking. “Xiao Si, you support him. He’ll throw up until he’s too weak to do anything else. Boss, you can give him some water.”
After listening to Jiang Nuan's explanation, the two got to work. Boss Huang held the fat man's head and poured the contents down his throat.
The pungent taste entered his stomach from his mouth, and immediately, the fat man began to vomit.
Instantly, a nauseating smell filled the courtyard.
Fifteen minutes later, the fat man could no longer vomit, and his stomach became flat. Jiang Nuan finally breathed a sigh of relief.
At this point, the fat man's legs were too weak to stand up.
“Drink this bowl of egg white, then take a shower,” Jiang Nuan explained. “Don’t go back today. Sleep in the same bed as Xiao Si. After you take a shower, rest in bed. I’ll bring you the porridge in a little while.”
"Fifth Aunt," the fat man said, his eyes welling up with tears, "thank you."
