“How old are you?” Grandma Jiang scolded her daughter as she helped her catch her breath. “You can’t even choke on water, you’re like a child.”
"It's all your fault for scaring me," Jiang Nuan thought to herself, but only showed an awkward smile on her face.
Clearing her throat, she subtly changed the subject, "Mother, where is the official road where our family is responsible for corvée labor? Is it far? How do Grandpa Jiang and the others eat?"
Grandma Jiang's attention was immediately drawn back, and the group continued their lively conversation.
Outside the door, Huang Xiaosi and his companion had just stepped out when they saw a group of people gathered around, whispering something.
"Brother," he walked over and patted a boy's arm familiarly, then expertly handed him a chestnut cake before smiling and asking, "What's up?"
The man instinctively caught the chestnut cake and asked in confusion, "Who are you? Why are you giving me something?"
"Let's be friends," Huang Xiaosi explained. "I'm visiting relatives. You know Jiang Xu? He's my uncle. Jiang Chao is my cousin. We're not outsiders."
“So you’re from my aunt’s family,” the man said, putting the chestnut cake in his pocket, wiping his hands with his clothes to clean them before holding them out. “Brother, I’m Jiang Yuan, Xu Ge’s cousin from the next house.”
"You really are a family," Huang Xiaosi said with a broad smile, patting his shoulder as he asked, "What are you all doing? Shall we join in the fun?"
“Sure, why not?” Jiang Yuan pulled Xiao Si with his left hand and Xiao Pang with his right, squeezing the two of them in. “They’re going to tease the dog.”
"Teasing the dog?" Huang Xiaosi poked his head inside. "How do you tease it? With meat?"
“No,” Jiang Yuan said in a low voice, “radish, radish that has been soaked in meat broth.”
“A dog’s nose is so sensitive, how could it not tell whether it’s a radish or meat?” Huang Xiaosi shook his head. “You can’t fool it like that.”
"What's there to be afraid of?" Jiang Yuan shook his head. "As long as we stay far away, we'll be fine."
Sure enough, the dog became very obedient as long as the hand was raised high.
"Crouch down!"
"Stand up!"
"Shake your leg!"
"Wiggle your butt!"
The brownish-yellow dog with curly fur is both silly and dull, trying its best to please people for a bite to eat; it's adorably silly.
Huang Xiaosi couldn't stop laughing while watching, and even wanted to try it himself.
"Roll over!" he tentatively suggested.
"With the meat in my hands, Dahuang won't listen to you." The boy holding the radish smiled smugly.
Before he could fully open his smile, the dog on the ground had already nimbly rolled over.
"Big Yellow," the boy snapped, "do you still want to eat meat?"
Disobedient dogs don't deserve to eat meat.
Enraged, the boy couldn't help but kick it.
"Woof!"
The dog barked pitifully.
"What are you doing?" Huang Xiaosi asked angrily, "Why did you kick it?"
“I can kick my dog however I want,” he said, then kicked him again. “Even if I kill him and eat him, it’s none of your business.”
"Screw you!" Huang Xiaosi threw a punch, and the man's face immediately swelled up on one side.
"You dare hit me?" The boy threw the carrot on the ground, rolled up his sleeves, and rushed over. "Brothers, let's beat him up together."
"No, it's a misunderstanding," Jiang Yuan said loudly. "We're all brothers, it's just a misunderstanding, don't take it seriously."
"Shut up," Huang Xiaopang said, pulling the two of them along. "Run!"
The three were very agile and quickly left everyone else behind.
"What do we do? The person has run away."
"They think they can get away?" The boy grinned sinisterly. "Big Yellow, chase them!"
After saying that, he said to the people behind him, "You should all call your dogs and go after them."
