"How can I not worry? There's no one at home." Grandpa Jiang's words were full of concern.
“There’s no one in our family either,” Old Man Huang retorted. “Look at me, I’m not worried at all.”
“That’s nonsense,” Old Master Jiang snorted coldly, “What’s the difference between you being here and being at home? You’ll be here in the time it takes to take a nap.”
That old geezer couldn't possibly be unaware of these things; he's definitely trying to make fun of me on purpose. He's really wicked!
He doesn't even realize that if he hadn't agreed to marry his daughter off in the first place, he would be the one showing off now.
The more Grandpa Jiang thought about it, the angrier he became, and his gaze toward Old Man Huang turned hostile.
Although Old Man Huang couldn't help but boast to his in-laws, he was actually a little guilty.
Touching his nose, he awkwardly suggested, "How about I have the mistress take you home?"
"My own grandson, do you need to give way to him?" Old Master Jiang sneered. "Stay away from me, I don't want to talk to you."
With that, he put his hands behind his back and stormed off.
Seeing this, Old Mrs. Huang gave her husband a resentful look, "You're getting younger and younger as you get older. Do you have to make things difficult for yourself?"
“I didn’t mean to,” Old Man Huang said awkwardly, “I just couldn’t help it.”
Old Man Huang was very excited when he first learned that he could learn the martial arts.
However, as the head of the family, he couldn't just howl like a foolish son in the middle of the night, and it wasn't appropriate for others to boast. Only this in-law was just right in terms of both status and age.
He's such a petty person. He couldn't sit still after just a couple of sentences, even though he had so much more to say.
Perhaps because of Old Man Huang's provocation, Old Man Jiang never mentioned going home again. He and his wife sat in the front yard, enjoying their daughter's filial piety.
"Yaya, are you thirsty? Bring me a cup of tea."
"Ya Ya, this red date cake is delicious, bring some more over."
"Yaya, where are the new shoes you made for me? Come here and try them on to see if they fit."
"Oh, by the way, I'll also go and get two more catties of good wine. I'm craving a drink; I just want to have a couple of cups tonight."
...
In no time, Jiang Nuan was being bossed around.
Grandma Jiang couldn't stand it anymore and warned, "Old man, don't go too far."
Although being served by her daughter was very comforting, she didn't want her daughter to get tired.
"What's wrong with Father?" Jiang Nuan asked, puzzled. "What happened to him?"
"Who knows," Grandma Jiang shook her head. "Don't worry about it, the more you pay attention, the more pretentious they'll become."
Look at him, he's even gotten addicted to giving orders.
They won't learn their lesson unless you scold them.
"Is it my fault?" Old Master Jiang snorted coldly. "It's all because of that old bastard Huang Ze. It's my skill to raise my daughter well. That old bastard not only doesn't appreciate it, but he also deliberately makes fun of me. If I don't let him see, he'll forget that Yaya is my daughter."
snort!
"You old man," Grandma Jiang laughed, "I thought it was something serious. Why are you so petty? Is it worth getting angry over such a small thing?"
Grandma Huang also heard about what happened before.
She didn't think it was a big problem.
Let her be sour if she wants. No matter how sour she is, her daughter still came from her own womb. If there's any benefit to be had, the first person she'll think of is her own mother.
Upon hearing this, Jiang Nuan was speechless.
How could she possibly explain this? Both of them were elders, and both had childish tempers.
If she had known it was such a ridiculous thing, she would never have gone along with her father like a child.
After thinking for a moment, she decided to leave. "The food in the kitchen should be ready soon, I'll go check on it."
“Go on, go on,” Grandpa Jiang said with a melancholy look on his face. “If that old man doesn’t come to the front yard, no matter how filial your daughter is, she won’t be able to see it.”
"You're kidding me," Grandma Jiang said irritably. "If he takes this seriously and starts ordering our daughter around, then you'll be crying."
"How could this be?" Grandpa Jiang said angrily. "That's my daughter."
“That’s my daughter-in-law,” Old Man Huang happened to overhear this. “What, are you going to try and take her from me?”
"What do you mean I'm going to fight you for her?" Old Master Jiang roared. "Have you no shame? That's my daughter!"
“Wrong, that’s my daughter-in-law,” Old Man Huang said calmly, “A married daughter is like water spilled from a cup, but a wife who comes in is for life. Except for the first ten or so years, she will be a member of the Huang family for the next few decades.”
“Who says spilled water can’t be taken back?” Old Huang said defiantly. “I’m taking my daughter home right now, and she’ll be surnamed Jiang for life.”
"Enough," Grandma Jiang said. "You're all acting like children at your age. Ya Ya is all alone. Are you going to cut her in half or something?"
“That’s right,” Old Mrs. Huang chimed in. “You two old hags, with all the younger generation gathered around in this courtyard, how dare you make a fool of yourselves in front of them? After today, how will you face them to lecture the younger generation?”
Upon hearing this, the two froze.
I subconsciously looked around and saw my children and grandchildren gathered in a circle.
"What are you doing here?" Old Huang scolded angrily. "Instead of practicing your calligraphy, what are you doing here? Looks like you've got too much free time."
“Exactly,” Grandpa Jiang chimed in, “It’s outrageous. They’ve all come to slack off in the short time I haven’t been watching them.”
"Sir," Huang Shan said, sounding aggrieved, "didn't you tell me to come out and rest for a while?"
"I said that?" Old Huang was stunned, then turned to ask, "Did I say that?"
“Dad, you…” Seeing Old Man Huang’s increasingly cold gaze, Huang Shi decisively changed his words, “You didn’t say that, Da Shan remembered it wrong.”
Then, feigning confusion, he asked, "What's wrong? What happened? Dad, are you talking to your uncle? Dashan, do you know what's going on?"
"I...I don't know." Under his father's warning, Huang Shan lied and said this.
“I know,” Xiao Wu said excitedly, “Grandpa and Grandpa…”
"No, you don't know." Huang Shi quickly covered his niece's mouth. "Dad, Uncle, you can continue. I'll take Xiao Wu and Da Niu out for a stroll."
After saying that, he gave his son a wink, then picked up one child with each hand and walked away.
His guilty conscience, so much so that he wanted to slip away, only made Old Man Huang and Old Man Jiang even angrier.
"It's all your fault!"
The two of them snorted coldly in unison.
Then, ignoring each other, they turned away angrily and sat on the stool.
It's no different from a child throwing a tantrum.
Seeing that the commotion had subsided, Jiang Nuan brought out two cups of tea and said ingratiatingly, "Father, please have some tea. It's very hot today, it will help you cool down."
"Um."
The two spoke at the same time, then realized what they were doing, looked at each other, and said in unison, "Give it to me first."
Jiang Nuan, who was serving tea, glanced at her father-in-law and then at her father-in-law, her eyes hesitantly shifting between the two men, but she dared not make any move.
These are two formidable mountains, and neither of them can be trifled with.
This is so hard for me!
Finally, he looked pitifully at the two old ladies with dark faces and asked for help.
Cough cough...
Grandma Jiang cleared her throat and said, "Neither of you should drink."
Turning his head, he smiled at Old Lady Huang and said, "Old sister, let's drink together."
