Chapter 364 Confession

“It happened before, you just don’t know it,” Jiang Nuan said, recounting the information she had gathered. “About twenty-five years ago, Huangjiakou was flooded, and the grain was washed away by the flood, so there wasn’t enough to eat. In desperation, they had to go into the mountains to beg for food, and that’s when they encountered a herd of wild boars.”

At that time, all the able-bodied men in the village went, more than fifty of them. Although they killed quite a few wild boars, the village suffered heavy casualties. From then on, in Huangjiakou, whenever we encountered a wild boar, we hunted it immediately, regardless of size.

"Oh dear," Xie asked anxiously, "what about Uncle Han?"

"It's alright, wild boar herds rarely come out, they won't be in any danger."

That's true in general, but Han Qi brought it on himself.

On the mountain, Han Qi sat on a rock to rest, drinking water while directing his servants, "Take a close look at that forest to the south; I think the black bear is definitely there."

The servants had heard this countless times.

As they approached the deep mountains, after hesitating for a long time, Han Yi gritted his teeth and said, "Master, there are no black bears on this mountain."

“No black bears,” Han Qi looked around. “That’s impossible. How come there isn’t a single bear in such a big mountain?”

How can he eat bear paws like that?

“Really not,” Han Yi said with a hint of helplessness. “Master, we’ve been searching the mountain for days and haven’t found a single bear paw print. There are no black bears on the mountain at all.”

"What should we do?" Han Qi said anxiously, "My bear paw is gone."

“Master, how about this,” Han Yi suggested, “we’ll entrust this matter to the restaurant manager. Once we receive the black bear, we can have him deliver the four bear paws over.”

"How long will we have to wait?" Han Qi said, feeling very frustrated. "It might take three to five years to meet someone like that."

“That was before,” Han Yi explained with a smile. “Now we spend a lot of money to buy black bears, so we don’t have to worry about a lack of hunters.”

The world is never short of people who would risk their lives for money.

“That’s true,” Han Qi nodded, “but if we just go down the mountain like this, wouldn’t all the suffering we’ve endured these past few days be for nothing?”

Han Qi was used to a life of luxury. Even though the servants were the ones running errands, he mainly did the talking. But in this desolate wilderness, with poor food and drink and not even a stool to sit on, he felt like he had suffered a great injustice.

When he first started climbing the mountain, he thought the ground was dirty and refused to sit down, even though Han Yi had used his clothes to cushion the ground.

Later, when I was so tired that I didn't care about saving face, I sat down wherever I saw a flat spot without anyone having to persuade me, not even caring that my pink clothes that I was reluctant to wear were being ruined.

If it weren't for the carrot of bear paws dangling from his shoulders, he would have given up long ago.

"There's nothing we can do about it," Han Yi said, on the verge of tears. "There are no bears on the mountain, so we can't conjure them up."

"No, we can't just give up like this," Han Qi stood up abruptly. "After all that effort over the past few days, if we just go back empty-handed, Jiang Meizi will probably laugh at me."

Jiang Nuan had advised Han Qi not to go up the mountain before. She felt that an old prince like Han Qi was more suited to staying at home and living a life of luxury. However, she wondered if it was because of his late-coming rebellious phase, but he insisted on going up the mountain.

When persuasion failed and with ten servants following him, Jiang Nuan went with him.

Jiang Nuan didn't take it to heart, but Han Qi was different.

“Master,” Han Yi tentatively began, “I’ve heard that honey-roasted wild boar is quite delicious. How about we try something else?”

"This..." Han Qi thought about it and realized it was actually a good idea. "Alright, let's catch wild boars then!"

The servants went looking for wild boars, leaving Han Qi alone, bored and waiting for news.

Han Yi was supposed to stay and protect him, but he felt he was in the way and sent him away.

People really shouldn't be too idle sometimes, otherwise they'll easily create trouble out of nothing, like Han Qi.

"Honey-glazed roasted meat, how can it be done without honey?"

After muttering to himself, Han Qi looked up and saw a beehive.

"Han Yi, come here..."

"Forget it, I'll do it myself," Han Qi muttered, looking at the honeycomb on the treetop. "They say honey picked by hand is sweeter."

Actually, it's because he has never been through a beehive.

Because the beehive was on the treetop, not very high, Han Qi picked up a stick and prepared to use it to remove the beehive.

“A bee, a philosopher, perhaps,” he touched his fair face, somewhat hesitantly, “Or should we let Han Yi do it?”

It's embarrassing to realize at the last minute that you don't have the courage to face the swarm of bees.

"Sir, we've caught a little wild boar."

Han Qi, who was lost in his own thoughts, was startled by Han Yi's sudden shout. He instinctively raised his hand, and the stick accidentally poked the beehive.

Instantly, a buzzing sound rang out.

Han Qi heard the sound, looked up, and saw the peaks on the treetops flying down.

I was stunned.

"Master, run!"

"Yes, I'm going to run."

Coming to his senses, he immediately ran towards Han Yi.

Seeing this, Han Yi immediately pulled the person forward and ran.

However, a person with only two legs ultimately has no wings, and even if they cover their head, they still get stung quite a few times.

When the two hid in the water to avoid the peaks, they were so swollen that they were unrecognizable.

"What should we do?" Han Qi panicked. "Master, I'm going to be disfigured."

Without his handsome face, he certainly wouldn't be as popular as before.

“Master…” Han Yi felt his vision blurring, “The most urgent thing is to get down the mountain and fetch a doctor.”

His whole body was swollen, and every word he uttered was excruciatingly painful for Han Yi.

Damn it, how can these wasps be so poisonous?

The old man is really something else. Of all things to provoke, he had to pick on wasps. Does he have a death wish? Or does he think he's living too comfortably?

"No," Han Qi said through gritted teeth, "My face is ruined, I must get my hands on that honey."

Otherwise, all those injuries he suffered would have been for nothing.

Upon hearing this, Han Yi's expression turned strange.

He cursed under his breath countless times before explaining with a deathly pale face, "Master, that was a hornet's nest."

"What? A hornet's nest?" Han Qi was so angry his vision blurred. "Why isn't it a beehive?"

Han Yi closed his eyes and resignedly said, "Even I hope it's a beehive."

At least, we wouldn't have ended up in this miserable state.

Because he was protecting Han Qi, most of the wasps landed on him, and he felt he couldn't hold on any longer.

His last shred of survival instinct led him to instruct his unreliable master, "Master, if anything happens to me, remember to have Han Er... collect my body."

In the final moments before plunging into darkness, Han Yi thought that if his unreliable master were to collect his body, they probably wouldn't even bother digging a pit; they would just cover it with a tattered mat and some dirt.

Having suffered so much in his life, he didn't want to die in such a miserable state. As for his master...

If there truly is an afterlife, I urge you never to meet him again. One death with regrets is enough, truly.

Han Qi panicked when he saw Han Yi faint.
